Prior to gaining celebrity status 31110 stands in the company of another Dutch liveried split box 37 ticking over outside the shed at Bescot neatly framed between the stakes of a Bogie Bolster parked in the foreground. 31110 would be returned to BR Green at some point between now (April 1998) and September 1999 becoming an in demand loco for rail tours and preserved lines. I have to admit at being quite surprised that the loco was withdrawn on 31 May 2005 and was scrapped by T. J. Thompson & Son during April 2007.

This is a large region of Hydrogen Gas aprox 1,000 light years from earth.

This is a 2 panel mosaic, each being 13x900s exposures over 3 nights.

I have been playing with this for some time, unable to get a result I was totally happy with. Still not 100% convinced, but at least this version has some elements I am pleased with.

The main point I'm not pleased with is the core is totally blown out - and this is from just 3 min sub exposures. If I have chance I may try some very short Luminance shots and have play with the HDR combine tool in PI.

A conspicuous show of tribal power by Mursi boys with Kalashnikovs. The Kalashnikov symbolizes wealth, status, and power. Above all, the Kalashnikov provides protection during cattle drives and fire-power in armed conflicts with neighbouring tribes.

The value of a Kalashnikov can range from five to thirty-five cows and often figures into the bride-wealth or payment made by the husband’s family to the bride's family.

This semi-nomadic pastoral Mursi settlement is situated high on the bank of the Mago River, a tributary that joins the essential Omo River in the remote southwestern corner of Ethiopia. Shot under the noonday sun near the end of a long hot dry season regularly exceeding 40°C in the shade.

Spears and other traditional weapons in the region were replaced with automatic assault rifles in the 1980s when they became more accessible during the decades-long civil war in neighbouring South Sudan. A surplus of automatic weapons circulating in the larger Horn of Africa is also accessible through other channels, including the flow of small arms and ammunition from longstanding wars across the border in Somalia and nearby northern Uganda. SKS and AK-47 assault rifles were easily available, relatively cheap, and easy to use.

Large numbers of automatic weapons were also imported from the USSR to Communist allies around the world during the Cold War, including Ethiopia. SKS semi-automatic Russian-made rifles were a precursor to the AK-47 and were widely available after the fall of the Derg, the Communist military junta that ruled Ethiopia under Mengistu Haile Mariam from 1974 to 1987. The consequent disbanding of the Ethiopian army and police force produced a flood of automatic weapons on the market. They became accessible, in part, through established tribal links with arms dealers in the Ethiopian highlands further to the east of the Omo Basin and elsewhere.

The Mursi are semi-nomadic farmers and herders who depend on shifting hoe-cultivation (mostly drought-resistant varieties of sorghum) and cattle herding for their livelihood. They number less than ten thousand today. Most Mursi live in small settlements dispersed across Mursiland, a remote territory of about thirty by eighty kilometres between the Omo and Mago Rivers in southwest Ethiopia near the border with South Sudan and northern Kenya. The terrain varies from a volcanic plain dominated by a range of hills and a major watershed to a riverine forest, wooded grasslands, and thorny bushland thickets. expl#33

Amsterdam is the capital and most populous city of the Netherlands. Its status as the Dutch capital is mandated by the Constitution of the Netherlands, although Amsterdam is not the seat of the Dutch government which is The Hague. Amsterdam has a population of 802,938 within city limits, 1,560,414 in the urban region and 2,332,839 in the greater metropolitan area. The city is located in the province of North Holland in the west of the country. It comprises much of the northern part of the Randstad, one of the larger conurbations in Europe, with a population of approximately 7 million.

Amsterdam's name derives from Amstelredamme, indicative of the city's origin: a dam in the river Amstel. Originating as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age, a result of its innovative developments in trade. During that time, the city was the leading center for finance and diamonds. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the city expanded, and many new neighborhoods and suburbs were planned and built. The 17th-century canals of Amsterdam and the 19–20th century Defence Line of Amsterdam are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

As the commercial capital of the Netherlands and one of the top financial centres in Europe, Amsterdam is considered an alpha world city by the Globalization and World Cities (GaWC) study group. The city is also the cultural capital of the Netherlands.] Many large Dutch institutions have their headquarters there, and 7 of the world's top 500 companies, including Philips and ING, are based in the city. In 2012, Amsterdam was ranked 2nd best city to live by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and 12th globally on quality of living by Mercer. The city was previously ranked 3rd in innovation by 2thinknow in the Innovation Cities Index 2009.

The Amsterdam Stock Exchange, the oldest stock exchange in the world, is located in the city center. Amsterdam's main attractions, including its historic canals, the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum, Hermitage Amsterdam, Anne Frank House, Amsterdam Museum, its red-light district, and its many cannabis coffee shops draw more than 3.66 million international visitors annually.

The earliest recorded use of the name "Amsterdam" is from a certificate dated 27 October 1275, when the inhabitants, who had built a bridge with a dam across the Amstel, were exempted from paying a bridge toll by Count Floris V. The certificate describes the inhabitants as homines manentes apud Amestelledamme (people living near Amestelledamme). By 1327, the name had developed into Aemsterdam

Amsterdam's founding is relatively recent compared with much older Dutch cities such as Nijmegen, Rotterdam, and Utrecht. In October 2008, historical geographer Chris de Bont suggested that the land around Amsterdam was being reclaimed as early as the late 10th century. This does not necessarily mean that there was already a settlement then since reclamation of land may not have been for farming—it may have been for peat, used as fuel.

Amsterdam was granted city rights in either 1300 or 1306. From the 14th century on, Amsterdam flourished, largely because of trade with the Hanseatic League. In 1345, an alleged Eucharistic miracle in the Kalverstraat rendered the city an important place of pilgrimage until the adoption of the Protestant faith. The Stille Omgang—a silent procession in civil attire—is today a remnant of the rich pilgrimage history

In the 16th century, the Dutch rebelled against Philip II of Spain and his successors. The main reasons for the uprising were the imposition of new taxes, the tenth penny, and the religious persecution of Protestants by the Spanish Inquisition. The revolt escalated into the Eighty Years' War, which ultimately led to Dutch independence. Strongly pushed by Dutch Revolt leader William the Silent, the Dutch Republic became known for its relative religious tolerance. Jews from the Iberian Peninsula, Huguenots from France, prosperous merchants and printers from Flanders, and economic and religious refugees from the Spanish-controlled parts of the Low Countries found safety in Amsterdam. The influx of Flemish printers and the city's intellectual tolerance made Amsterdam a centre for the European free press

The 17th century is considered Amsterdam's Golden Age, during which it became the wealthiest city in the world. Ships sailed from Amsterdam to the Baltic Sea, North America, and Africa, as well as present-day Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, and Brazil, forming the basis of a worldwide trading network. Amsterdam's merchants had the largest share in both the Dutch East India Company and the Dutch West India Company. These companies acquired overseas possessions that later became Dutch colonies. Amsterdam was Europe's most important point for the shipment of goods and was the leading Financial Centre of the world. In 1602, the Amsterdam office of the Dutch East India Company became the world's first stock exchange by trading in its own shares.

Amsterdam lost over 10% of its population to plague in 1623–1625, and again in 1635–1636, 1655, and 1664. Nevertheless, the population of Amsterdam rose in the 17th century (largely through immigration) from 50,000 to 200,000

Amsterdam's prosperity declined during the 18th and early 19th centuries. The wars of the Dutch Republic with England and France took their toll on Amsterdam. During the Napoleonic Wars, Amsterdam's significance reached its lowest point, with Holland being absorbed into the French Empire. However, the later establishment of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1815 marked a turning point.

The end of the 19th century is sometimes called Amsterdam's second Golden Age. New museums, a train station, and the Concertgebouw were built; in this same time, the Industrial Revolution reached the city. The Amsterdam-Rhine Canal was dug to give Amsterdam a direct connection to the Rhine, and the North Sea Canal was dug to give the port a shorter connection to the North Sea. Both projects dramatically improved commerce with the rest of Europe and the world. In 1906, Joseph Conrad gave a brief description of Amsterdam as seen from the seaside, in The Mirror of the Sea.

Shortly before the First World War, the city began expanding, and new suburbs were built. Even though the Netherlands remained neutral in this war, Amsterdam suffered a food shortage, and heating fuel became scarce. The shortages sparked riots in which several people were killed. These riots are known as the Aardappeloproer (Potato rebellion). People started looting stores and warehouses in order to get supplies, mainly food.

Germany invaded the Netherlands on 10 May 1940 and took control of the country. Some Amsterdam citizens sheltered Jews, thereby exposing themselves and their families to the high risk of being imprisoned or sent to concentration camps. More than 100,000 Dutch Jews were deported to Nazi concentration camps of which some 60.000 lived in Amsterdam. Perhaps the most famous deportee was the young Jewish girl Anne Frank, who died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. At the end of the Second World War, communication with the rest of the country broke down, and food and fuel became scarce. Many citizens traveled to the countryside to forage. Dogs, cats, raw sugar beets, and Tulip bulbs—cooked to a pulp—were consumed to stay alive. Most of the trees in Amsterdam were cut down for fuel, and all the wood was taken from the apartments of deported Jews.

The (reconstructed) bookcase that covered the entrance to the "Secret Annex" where Anne Frank hid from Germans occupying Amsterdam during World War II.

Many new suburbs, such as Osdorp, Slotervaart, Slotermeer, and Geuzenveld, were built in the years after the Second World War These suburbs contained many public parks and wide, open spaces, and the new buildings provided improved housing conditions with larger and brighter rooms, gardens, and balconies. Because of the war and other incidents of the 20th century, almost the entire city centre had fallen into disrepair. As society was changing, politicians and other influential figures made plans to redesign large parts of it. There was an increasing demand for office buildings and new roads as the automobile became available to most common people. A metro started operating in 1977 between the new suburb of Bijlmer and the centre of Amsterdam. Further plans were to build a new highway above the metro to connect the Central Station and city centre with other parts of the city.

The incorporated large-scale demolitions began in Amsterdam's formerly Jewish neighbourhood. Smaller streets, such as the Jodenbreestraat, were widened and saw almost all of their houses demolished. During the destruction's peak, the Nieuwmarktrellen (Nieuwmarkt riots) broke out, where people expressed their fury about the demolition caused by the restructuring of the city.

As a result, the demolition was stopped, and the highway was never built, with only the metro being finished. Only a few streets remained widened. The new city hall was built on the almost completely demolished Waterlooplein. Meanwhile, large private organisations, such as Stadsherstel Amsterdam, were founded with the aim of restoring the entire city centre. Although the success of this struggle is visible today, efforts for further restoration are still ongoing The entire city centre has reattained its former splendor and, as a whole, is now a protected area. Many of its buildings have become monuments, and in July 2010 the Grachtengordel (Herengracht, Keizersgracht, and Prinsengracht) was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List

Thalmor Dossier: Throgar Winter-Flame

Status: Asset (non-attributed), Dormant. Watch-only. Emissary Level Approval.

Background: Born in Bruma, 4E 176, son of Halbjorn Winter-Flame (see related documents for further information) and Fjilsi Stone-Shield (terminated 4E 178). After agents separated Throgar from his father in the 4E 179 kill missions (failed), Haafingar-based Justiciars were unable to prevent the boy from falling into Imperial interest. Throgar was taken in by the Dragon’s Bridge based blacksmith Pavus Arellius. This information arrived late, and was further ignored by the mission officer. Situation was deemed irreparable: responsible parties for this oversight were summarily removed and replaced. Initial reports suggested that Throgar might serve as a bargaining tool to draw out the high value target Halbjorn Winter-Flame. Probing missions proved ineffective, resulting in the deaths of three local agents. Throgar was moved to an inactive surveillance state from there.

Our Justiciar in charge of the operation notes that Throgar displays very low personal threat: while growing up, the boy learned to despise the Legions, as he attributed his parents’ deaths to it. Rather than work making Legion steel with his adoptive father, Throgar is noted as a rapacious youth who prefers to spend time sleeping in beds owned by the daughters of noblemen and harassing area guardsmen. Upon Throgar’s fifteenth year, weekly reports were transitioned to basic annual synopses, as per discretion of Justiciar Alerin, following her conclusion that the younger Winter-Flame was of no threat to machinations in Skyrim.

The motion gained Third Emissary approval after Throgar began regular caravan activity as a guard for Arellius’ shipments of non-armory goods to Hjaalmarch and Reach holds. Justiciar Alerin notes that Throgar demonstrates the innate martial capability of his father, but prefers to exercise this particular skill-set in tavern brawls as opposed to any useful (or hindering) manner. As he has proven of no threat to area assets, Command has simply added an “engage-with-caution” clause to any pending operations involving him. Justiciar Alerin’s latest annual report places Throgar in Hjaalmarch, working as a sell-sword out of Morthal.

Operational Notes: Given his father’s excessively violent nature, Throgar has been designated as a zero-contact surveillance project save for dire circumstances. Given his possible value in the apprehension of his father, area assets have been advised to ensure that Throgar remains alive throughout his mercenary work: general well-being, however, is a non-priority. Justiciar Alerin suggests that any situtationally-mandated contact be made indoors, taverns being the safest locations. Stealth infiltration/exfiltration protocols required at all times when gathering intelligence on target.

I knew I can pull more details from the data I get it at the Texas Star Party, the image was created by mapping the SII, Ha and OIII data respectively to the R, G and B channels. The resulting RGB image was stretched to show the faint detail and gives a wonderful display of the extent of hydrogen, in the area close to the Galactic Cluster NGC6871, the emission nebula LBN179, LBN182 and the dark nebula Swordfish B147.

By manipulating the colors, we can show the SII and OIII areas. This creates a much more interesting image and we can also do a bit of science.

My men and I have gotten some news over the radio, that reports some Krauts have taken over the town south of our location and said they are heading our way and they left the town in ashes.

When I gave the news to my men they became smug and were sure that they would kick those krauts back to Berlin. They were sure since they got supplies at 0600. My men are dug in and ready for those krauts, and whatever they got

Our third major leopard encounter was with a lovely female African leopard Panthera pardus pardus). It was nearly 7pm and the light was beginning to fade, but she was still clearly visible lying on a branch. After a while she sat up and looked out beyond our vehicles. I think dinner was on her mind. She must have seen something because she suddenly bounded down the tree to the ground, walked a bit through the grass, and then disappeared.

european magpie ~ pica pica (behaviour)

The magpie is on the RSPB Green status list.

I thought this magpie was looking for the squirrels stashes to raid but he kept stopping and flapping his wings as though he was about to fly off. Then I realised he was looking at the roof of our extension and I looked up to see another magpie watching. Whether this was threat behaviour or courtship display it was entertaining. I had just taken a photo of two magpies in an old wild cherry tree as I had never seen magpies sitting together like that before I wonder if these are the same pair.

Orden:Charadriiformes

Familia:Sternidae

Género:Thalasseus

Nombres comunes:Gaviotín patinegro americano o charrán patinegro americano

Especie:Thalasseus acuflavidus

Nombre Ingles: Cabot's Tern

Status: Residente reproductor

RSPB Amber status

(A rarity for us to see around here)

Blackbird with cherry in 1st comment box.

The only time I saw birds taking wild cherries was when the wind and sunlight were really unsuitable for a decent photo. The branches the birds perched on were so flimsy they blew about all over the place in the strong wind. The birds were also in and out of shadow into direct strong sunshine. It was so rare to see a mistle thrush locally I just had to have a go.

Name: The BoogieMan

Real Name: Eugene Preston

Status: Villian

Abilities: Other than sweet dance moves, none. But his necklace is capable of hypnotizing those who look at him as long as he's dancing. Once he stops dancing, or once they look away, they're no longer hypnotized.

Origin: Eugene Preston loves dancing, especially to disco. So when he found a magical amulet he decided to put his skills to good use. So now he dances in the streets, and whenever anyone comes by, he hypnotizes them into giving him all their money or jewelry. He has been accused of mugging, but he claims everyone just loves his dancing. And so he roams free, looking for more victims to fall into his trap.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I've just been readjusting (and I wanted to finish some Loh characters). I do have four others ready, and five more planned. So I hope you like my first Loh villain, and be on the lookout because there are more to come!

P.S. If you were tagged, it's because I know you have made some Loh characters, and I would like your help. Right now there are around 830 posts in the League of LEGO Heroes group, and because I don't really want to go through all of those posts looking to see if someone's similar, I'd appreciate it if you could tell me if you know of someone who's similar to mine. So that means anyone who looks the same, shares a similar name, similar backstory, or they're an overall similar character. If you do know of some, I'd be willing to change mine so that I'm not copying whoever's it is. Thank you.

Legendary Status - Agnes von Weiss

She was highly anticipated, her face printed on every convention box, stand and header of every email.

Sigh. I wanted to like her so badly... But to me this is not what I had expected as a special anniversary doll. The make up looks different, probably because the the banner and box pics were oversaturated caused by the box being metallic hot pink what already gives a different hue to a doll photographed next to it.

Yes, she's Agnes and yes she's a lovely doll but holy moly that dress... There is so much going on and every aspect of it screams for attention. So much so that the actual doll fades away. The yellow and silver ( a not so appealing combo, to mé), the out of proportion big bedazzled stockings attached ( yes, one piece) to the shoes. The overly big and ( again, to mé) clashing blue jewelry, two dresses crammed into one not flowing and very stiff looking one. If only I would have the option to order her in her nudy trudy, I would have ordered her right away...
