La animada y compacta isla de Gamla Stan es el casco antiguo de la ciudad, que cuenta con calles adoquinadas y edificios coloridos de los siglos XVII y XVIII. También alberga la catedral medieval de Storkyrkan y el Palacio Real, que es la residencia oficial del rey.
Es un magnífico laberinto de encantadoras calles adoquinadas, avenidas, casas señoriales y plazas de encuentro que fueron tomando forma en el siglo XIII y que reflejan un indiscutible estilo arquitectónico propio del norte de Alemania, ya que fueron alemanes sus primeros habitantes . Es el casco antiguo de Estocolmo y se apoda,"la ciudad entre los puentes". El nombre significa literalmente "La ciudad vieja" , ya que "stan" es una contracción de "staden" o sea"la ciudad". Hasta hace muy poco Gamla Stan se encontraba relativamente abandonada, y muchos de sus edificios históricos fueron demolidos. No obstante, en los últimos veinte años se ha convertido en un lugar turístico, gracias al encanto de su arquitectura de estilo medieval y renacentista
Significa en sueco, casco antiguo o centro histórico, es en realidad el centro urbano original de Estocolmo .Cuesta trabajo imaginarse que el casco antiguo de la ciudad estuviera considerado entre mediados de los siglos XIX y XX, la zona pobre y marginal de Estocolmo , cuando ahora es un lugar de residencia especialmente codiciado. Su origen se remonta al siglo XIII, aunque la mayoría de los edificios datan de entre el 1700 y el 1800. Es un magnífico laberinto de encantadoras calles adoquinadas, casas señoriales y plazas de encuentro . Es la residencia de unas 3.000 personas, además de estar repleto de cafeterías, restaurantes, tiendas de suvenires para turistas, estudios, galerías y museos.

It was rainy, raw and cold the day I arrived in Stockholm but walking the streets of this city's magnificent "Old Town" without the tourist crowds put a huge smile on my face.

Tecoma stans est une espèce d'arbuste tropical de la famille des Bignoniaceae, interdite de culture en Nouvelle-Calédonie.
L'espèce est considérée comme invasive en Afrique du Sud, en Amérique du Sud, en Asie, en Australie et dans les îles du Pacifique. Originaire du Mexique et des Etats-Unis, elle a été volontairement introduite dans de nombreuses parties du monde pour ses qualités horticoles. Elle présente désormais un danger important pour la biodiversité en entrant en concurrence avec les espèces locales.
Elle représente une telle menace en Nouvelle-Calédonie (la région de Boulouparis est particulièrement infestée), où elle aurait été introduite en 1904, que le Code de l'environnement de la Province Sud interdit son introduction dans la nature, sa production, son transport, son utilisation, son colportage, sa cession, sa mise en vente, sa vente ou son achat.

Stan is probably one of Eminem’s best know songs. It is about a fan’s descent into a dangerous obsession through his letters to his rapper hero. It starts off fairly harmless but as his mental health spirals, the letters become more aggressive and the story ends in violence and tragedy. I suppose many of you can relate to that poster on the wall of your favourite musician as a teenager and how it bought comfort when you needed an escape from the real world (top bunk, Peter Frampton on the ceiling above my bed).
Stan is now an official word in the Oxford English Dictionary. The dictionary entry says a stan is "an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity".
During the week we had a conversation about rap music, where I said that it is easy write it off that whole genre of music and she said-that’s O.K. That means the music wasn’t meant for them.
At the Eminem concert, there were quite a few signs saying “You saved my Life”. I guess it doesn’t matter what the music is that gets you through, as long as you find it then it will be meant for you.
I have fussed and fretted over the image and still not 100% sure but here it is nonetheless.

Storkyrkan (lit. 'The Great Church'), also called Stockholms domkyrka (Stockholm Cathedral) and Sankt Nikolai kyrka (Church of Saint Nicholas), is the oldest church in Stockholm. Storkyrkan lies in the centre of Stockholm in Gamla stan, between Stockholm Palace and Stortorget, the old main square of Stockholm. It was consecrated to Saint Nicholas in 1306 but construction of the church probably started in the 13th century. Inside, Storkyrkan still maintains much of its late medieval appearance in the form of a hall church with a vaulted ceiling supported by brick pillars. The exterior of the church is however uniformly Baroque in appearance, the result of extensive changes made in the 18th century. The church played an important role during the Reformation in Sweden as the place where Mass was celebrated in Swedish for the first time. It currently serves as the seat of the Bishop of Stockholm within the Church of Sweden since the creation of the Diocese of Stockholm in 1942.
Storkyrkan was for a long time the only parish church of Stockholm, and from an early date it was connected with the Swedish royal family. It has been the scene of historical events on numerous occasions, and was used as a coronation church for centuries. More recently, the wedding between Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling took place in the church in 2010. Military victories as well as national tragedies have been commemorated in Storkyrkan, and it is still used for funerals of public figures such as the writers Astrid Lindgren and Sara Danius.
The church contains several important works of art as well as elaborate furnishings, among these a late medieval sculpture of Saint George and the Dragon and Vädersolstavlan, a painting which shows one of the earliest images of Stockholm.

Good Saturday morning everyone, and hope a good one is had by everyone. On my continued walk through the wetlands lat evening I came across about 15-17 of this species, and one by one they started to take off and gave me some decent chances to do some photography of them which is always welcome, so there may be more down the road. Tecoma stans is a species of flowering perennial shrub in the trumpet vine family, Bignoniaceae, that is native to the Americas. Common names include yellow trumpetbush, yellow bells, yellow elder, ginger-thomas. Tecoma stans is the official flower of the United States Virgin Islands and the floral emblem of The Bahamas.
