The Mallard is the most recent arrival on this small rock. The Coot is going to convince the Mallard that another spot would be a better choice. American Coot 6040

Roid Week Autumn Day 4/2.
A beautiful Blue Heron does the stalk-walk out from the shore to find a place to hunt. The slight breeze gave a watercolor reflection.

Slowly walking through the water, a Great Blue Heron stalks it's next meal. I watched intently as he went though the water carefully looking down, but he didn't seem to find anything this time.
I would like to say I spent hours stalking this fine specimen across the mountainside, just keeping below the skyline, downwind, waiting for the perfect moment to get the shot (with camera)
But it wasn't quite like that..
Actually I was just sitting on a picnic bench at Applecross, drinking coffee and eating an apple when this dude just sauntered over to us and sat down not more than 10 yards away.. Luckily I had the trusty Nikon Df with me with the 85mm Portrait lens attached and managed to fire off quite a few frames while he posed..
As payment I gently threw him the rest of my apple which he seamed to enjoy eating before calmly getting up and walking off back to where ever he came from..
Castle Stalker, Appin, Loch Loch Laich (Linhe)
Continuing the castle theme here is one of another iconic castle in Scotland, Castle Stalker. Yes it’s been shot to death…but not by me!
After some uncertainty about where to park and if I’d come back to a find my car blocked in or damaged I took the risk and headed off to the shoreline one afternoon. I spent a few hours there and this image was from just before sunset as the colours were kicking off. Ideally there would have been a higher tide so I’ve scope to improve on it but as a first visit shot it will do for me.

Just another Nokton bokeh.
There are many variables that goes in bokeh and the more I explore more it seems that the lens design just sets the limits of possible. The lighting, nature of subject and background, distance from subject and background are more important. Especially nature of light.
In certain conditions all lenses will give smooth soft bokeh.
