Sweet corn in the field. It looks pretty good here but this was before the two weeks of 100+ heat moved in. Thanks for the look and have a great evening.

The original castle was a small fort, built around 1320 by Clan MacDougall who were then Lords of Lorn.[4] Around 1388 the Stewarts took over the Lordship of Lorn, and it is believed that they built the castle in its present form around the 1440s. The Stewarts' relative King James IV of Scotland visited the castle, and a drunken bet around 1620 resulted in the castle passing to Clan Campbell. After the castle changed hands between these clans a couple of times, the Campbells finally abandoned it about 1840 when it lost its roof. In 1908 the castle was bought by Charles Stewart of Achara, who carried out basic conservation work. In 1965 Lt. Col. D. R. Stewart Allward acquired the castle and over about ten years fully restored it. Castle Stalker remains in private ownership and is open to the public at selected times during the summer.[5]

From the American Bird Conservancy:

Although its genus Ardea dates back 14 million years, the oldest fossils of the Great Blue Heron are from the Pleistocene Epoch, about 1.8 million years ago. So, this bird's “prehistoric” appearance — with its long, thick bill; curvaceous and powerful neck; and long legs — is more a reflection of successful adaptations that have served the species well over the past 1.8 million years.

Castle Stalker is picturesquely set on Loch Laich a tidal islet off Loch Linnhe near to Port Appin Scotland. The islet is accessible from the shore at low tide. The Castle is one of the best-preserved medieval Tower-Houses in western Scotland

this is sort of a camera test and also a figure i made a while ago. Camera is not the best but it's good enough :)

A beautiful Blue Heron does the stalk-walk out from the shore to find a place to hunt. The slight breeze gave a watercolor reflection.

They do like to use roofs to stalk about don't they? :-)

Slowly walking through the water, a Great Blue Heron stalks it's next meal. I watched intently as he went though the water carefully looking down, but he didn't seem to find anything this time.

This Great Egret (Ardea alba) was 'fishing' at the Springfield Nature Center. There were two and we later saw several more at Lake Springfield. The Great Egret is the symbol of the National Audubon Society, one of the oldest environmental organizations in North America. Audubon was founded to protect birds from being killed for their feathers.

Continuing the castle theme here is one of another iconic castle in Scotland, Castle Stalker. Yes it’s been shot to death…but not by me!

After some uncertainty about where to park and if I’d come back to a find my car blocked in or damaged I took the risk and headed off to the shoreline one afternoon. I spent a few hours there and this image was from just before sunset as the colours were kicking off. Ideally there would have been a higher tide so I’ve scope to improve on it but as a first visit shot it will do for me.
