Liberty Harbor, Brunswick, GA
We pushed through some densely overgrown scrub to reach the remains of the old liberty ship piers in Brunswick, GA. Still up for new adventures, nothing makes this old girl happier than laying claim to new territory.
"The natural harbor of Brunswick, located 70 miles south of Savannah, had a long maritime history before the outbreak of World War II. Located at the confluence of three rivers, the harbor was used as an exportation port for goods such as cotton and rice. When the Emergency Shipbuilding Program was announced by President Franklin Roosevelt in January of 1941, Brunswick was one of sixteen ports chosen to construct cargo vessels that would aid Allied forces in Europe. After the U.S. declared war, these cargo vessels, called “Liberty Ships,” were churned out at incredible speed. The 16,000 workers at the Brunswick shipyards built 99 ships, 85 of them Liberty Ships, from 1941-1945. They were capable of hauling thousands of tons of cargo across the Atlantic Ocean."
I haven't posted anything on my backyard Eastern Bluebirds in months. They haven't been around much since they hatched their second brood in Summer. Recently they are in the yard more, staking out the rights to their nestbox. I put out some dried mealworms in their feeder and they immediately came to me. Our beautiful world, pass it on.

Thank you so much for sharing your quality photos which is a great way to see and keep some sort of touch with the world from home. Also for your kind comments and favours which are much valued.
I'm afraid I am not able to take on any more members to follow or to post to groups.
The first toad I've seen this season! It's quite a rusty red and was hanging out on the rocky slope next to the house. Love these guys.
Squirrel checking to see if the coast is clear to the feeders. Even with plenty of natural food available, once a squirrel starts eating from the feeders, it almost becomes an addiction. Hickory nuts aren't good enough anymore.
Happy Monochrome Monday, everyone! =)
While enjoying a weekend at the Washington coast I happened upon an abandoned house in Oysterville. For the person who needs a project this seemed to have some potential. You better hurry, though. Mother Nature has her own ideas.

While visiting the star system simply known as J-216, the explorers of Nova Team have come across an interesting planet. While not completely suitable for human life, the planet boasts some interesting mineral deposits that may prove to be useful materials worth mining one day.
Here we have (from left to right) Lt Commander Samual Steele taking a photo of Commander Lance Lane, Lt Sydeny Stargazer and Chief Petty Officer Clarke Cooper placing a flag in the rough terrian of the alien planet, staking a claim for the Federation.

A teeny Blue-gray Gnatcatcher singing in a redbud tree. These birds have just arrived and must be weary, but waste no time staking out a breeding territory and displaying for females. Our beautiful world, pass it on.
Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) - Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands (a.k.a. Viera Wetlands), Melbourne, Florida
A GBH staking its claim on some premo real estate at Viera.
And when it comes to real estate there's no shortage of it at Viera, and it seems they will be needing even more "Wetlands" to deal with the additional effluent coming from all those new homes!!!
But I have to say, when it comes to dealing with effluent nobody does it better than Florida!
In my previous post of this guy I used a 300 mm lens with a full frame body to capture the heron and the entirety of the nest in the same capture. For this image I used a 600 mm lens with a APS-C body, and a 2 shot composite where I captured its head and all of its plumes in the first capture, and its relatively stationary legs and nest in the second capture. So when it comes to details, this is about as detaily as it gets for a full body GBH image.
The curiously named Eddy Grave Stake. This marks the edge of an old parish boundry. There's no signs of a grave and who Eddy was remains a mystery.
