Vera Tschechowa (1940) is a film and television actress and director of German-Russian descent. Her grandfather was Oscar-nominated actor Michael Chekhov who was the nephew of author Anton Chekhov. Her grandmother was legendary film star Olga Tschechowa. The elegant, green-eyed actress has appeared in over 50 films since 1957.
Vera Tschechowa - also written as Vera Cecova and Vera Tschechova - was born as Vera Rust in Berlin, Germany in 1940. Her father was Dr. Wilhelm Rust, and her mother was actress and agent Ada Tschechowa. Young Vera was brought up in Germany by her Russian-German grandmother Olga Tschechowa. Her early childhood was affected by the Second World War. During the late 1940s and early 1950s, she spent much time with her grandfather, Michael Chekhov in California, and also traveled in the United States. She started her education as an artist and stage designer, then studied acting at the Munich Drama School. Eventually, she followed in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother and became an actress. Her film debut was as one of the daughters of Heinz Erhardt in the comedy Witwer mit fünf Tochtern/Widower with 5 Daughters (Erich Engels, 1956). It was followed by a co-starring role in the drama Noch minderjährig/Under 18 (Georg Tressler, 1957) opposite Paula Wessely. Soon followed roles in the war drama Der Arzt von Stalingrad/The Doctor of Stalingrad (Géza von Radványi, 1958) featuring O.E. Hasse, the romance Meine 99 Bräute/My 99 Brides (Alfred Vohrer, 1958) with Claus Wilcke, and the Italian fantasy Ballerina e Buon Dio/Angel in a Taxi (Antonio Leonviola, 1958) with Gabriele Ferzetti. In 1959, when Elvis Presley was stationed as a soldier in Europe he dated Vera a few times. That year, she appeared in the comedy Und das am Montagmorgen/And That on Monday Morning (Luigi Comencini, 1959) starring O.W. Fischer, and the Freddy Quinn musical Freddy unter fremden Sternen/Freddy under foreign stars (Wolfgang Schleif, 1959). In 1959 she also made her stage debut at Berlin Theater. Later she worked on stage at Deutsche Schauspielhaus Hamburg, and also at Dusseldorfer Schauspielhaus and Theater Basel.
In 1962 Vera Tschechowa received the German National Film Award, the Filmband in Gold, for her work in Das Brot der Fruhen Jahre/The Bread of Those Early Years (Herbert Vesely, 1962) with Christian Doermer. Since then she has been enjoying a formidable film career, including such diverse films as L'amour à vingt ans/Love at Twenty (François Truffaut a.o., 1962), the Edgar Wallace Krimi Die Gruft mit dem Rätselschloß/Curse of the Hidden Vault (Franz Josef Gottlieb, 1964), and the romance Liebe und so weiter/Love and so on (George Moorse, 1968), with Vadim Glowna, whom she had married in 1967. She also made numerous appearances on television in several European countries. In 1977 she received the Goldene Camera Award for her role in the TV production Zeit der Empfindsamkeit/Age of Sensitivity (Wilma Kottusch, 1977). In 1980 she founded together with Vadim Glowna the film production Atossa. The company produced Desperado City (Vadim Glowna, 1980), which won the 1981 Camera d'Or for Best Debut Film at the Cannes Film Festival. She was also directed by Glowna in Dies rigorose Leben/Nothing Left to Loose (Vadim Glowna, 1983) with Angela Molina, and in the documentary Tschechow in meinem Leben/Chekhov in My Life (Vadim Glowna, 1984) about the Chekhov dynasty. In the 1990s and 2000s, Vera Tschechowa became known as a writer/director/producer of film portraits. First, she worked for TV on portraits of the actors Klaus Maria Brandauer (1994), Anthony Quinn (1997), and Robert Redford. IMDb credits Der Filmemacher Ang Lee/Filmmaker Ang Lee (Vera Tschechowa, 2003) as her first film as a director. In 2006 she presented her film Salam Cinema: Die iranische Familie Makhmalbaf und ihre Filme/Salaam Cinema - Iran's Makhmalbaf family and their films (Vera Tschechowa, 2006) at the Munchner Filmfest. It is a portrait of the Makhmalbaf family of filmmakers. Her most recent film is Michael Ballhaus - Eine Reise durch mein Leben/Michael Ballhaus - A Journey through my Life (Vera Tschechowa, 2008) about the famous German cinematographer. Vera Tschechowa speaks four languages: German, English, French and Russian. After her divorce from Vadim Glowna, she married manager Peter Paschek, who produced her two latest documentaries. She has a son from a relationship with actor Hartmut Reck.

Tower of London Remembers.
To mark the centenary anniversary of the First World War the Tower of London is creating an evolving art installation "Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red". Formed of 888,246 ceramic poppies by artist Paul Cummins, with setting by stage designer Tom Piper, each poppy represents a British military fatality during the war. The installation was officially unveiled on 5 August 2014, one hundred years since the first full day of Britain's involvement in the First World War and will be in place until 11 November 2014.
On 24 August I helped to build a just a little more of the installation by constructing and planting a batch of poppies. I believe it is now (as in these photos) about a quarter completed. Each poppy is a life lost - when it is completed maybe it will help to demonstrate the scale of those numbers which we really cannot imagine.

The major art installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at the Tower of London, marking one hundred years since the first full day of Britain's involvement in the First World War. Created by ceramic artist Paul Cummins, with setting by stage designer Tom Piper, 888,246 ceramic poppies will progressively fill the Tower's famous moat over the summer. Each poppy represents a British military fatality during the war.
The poppies encircled the iconic landmark, creating not only a spectacular display visible from all around the Tower but also a location for personal reflection. The scale of the installation intended to reflect the magnitude of such an important centenary creating a powerful visual commemoration.

Lights per second
The project consists on a real-time audiovisual performance in a full immersive designed space. Using special visuals, lighting and sound processing techniques, the installation combines computer codes taking the club architecture, the dance floor, its own environment and the moving crowd.
Lights per second works as a total art concept designed for the public to live an intensive experience, exploring different views, a whole circle through various kinds of perception. From uncomfortable sensations to ecstasy feelings, this journey requires full participation and willingness from the public in order to complete the setting.
Therefore the project is based on different approaches of electronic music and technology, more from an empathic view in a resounding layout experience. An open invitation to think about how electronic music shaped today's culture and so other aspects that define it as part of the so called entertainment industry.
LPS is conceived as an audiovisual set, a techno installation with a custom lighting design, telling about the nature of video as purely consisting of light and shadow. In this lightning speech, the performance takes us to a more abstract level trying to reach the very essence of video technology.
Each component (light, object and shadow) works as a single frame in a circular-shaped lightning-structure that points to an object in the center. The whole installation consists of one hundred RGB-LED light-circumference pointing to a center.
Lights per second concept was born of the deep thinking, research and random essays from Martin Borini (also known as AILAVIU). His early works as a Vj as well as light or stage designer helped him develop this project, which at the same time was enhanced by some of his experimental works with light control through video operation and the study of changes in human perception. On this occasion Martin is doing a live performance with Ducasse, the music project of producer Luis María Ducasse. His sound goes from techno to acid house, playing in a live set hardware format specifically routed for the light installation. Sound concept is around the interaction between light performance and electronic audio devices in order to fuse and conceive the dance floor and the installation as a whole.

En julio de 1777, Clemens Wenzel de Sajonia, príncipe elector y arzobispo de Tréveris, visitó Viena. Era un pariente del duque Alberto de Sajonia-Teschen, yerno de María Teresa y marido de su hija favorita, Marie Christine. En honor de la visita de Tréveris Sajonia, el teatro de Marionetas del príncipe Esterházy dío un espectáculo que fue premiado de muchísimo aplauso. "Por está razón, en Schönbrunn fue construido un teatro y las marionetas y decoraciones llevados a Viena". Fue interpretado "Alceste", una parodia respecto de la ópera del mismo nombre de Christoph Willibald Gluck.

Después de una generosa renovación del "tracto del consejo de la Corte" por el Palacio de Schönbrunn Empresa de cultura y de explotación, el teatro en 1994 pudo ser abierto. De está manera, en el tracto del consejo de la Corte por las reprecentaciones mágicas fue creado un ambiente perfecto.

Biography
It was July 1777 when Clemens Wenzel of Sachsen, Elector and Archbishop of Trier visited Vienna. He was a relative of Duke Albert of Sachsen-Teschen, Empress Maria Theresia’s son in law and husband of her favourite daughter Maria Christine. To honour this visit from Trier, the Marionette-Theatre of Prince Esterházy offered a spectacle which was much acclaimed by the visitors.
For this reason a theatre was built and the puppets and decoration were brought to Vienna. "Alceste" a parody of the original opera, written and composed by Christoph Willibald Gluck, was performed.
Following this tradition the

was founded by Christine Hierzer-Riedler and Werner Hierzer.
After a generous renovation of the "Hofratstrakt" (court wing) by the Schönbrunner Kultur- und Betriebsges.m.b.H. the theatre was reopened in 1994 and forms now the perfect ambience of these enchanting shows.
The MARIONETTENTHEATER SCHLOSS SCHÖNBRUNN is a private theatre, the two founders and art directors Christine Hierzer-Riedler and Werner Hierzer are looking back on more than 40 years of international experience in performing with marionettes. They acted as puppeteers in New York, Hong Kong, Mexico City, Paris, London, Madrid, Rome, Berlin, Los Angeles, Miami, Brussels, Montreal, Boston, Peking and Seoul. In 1995 they set up a training centre for talented marionette-players in Schönbrunn to continue this tradition. There are shows of high quality throughout the year performed by two artistically skilled companies on stage at home in Schönbrunn and on tour in several countries.
With the support of famous directors and costume and stage designers the puppets, costumes, stage setting and stage techniques are all created at the theatre’s own workshops.

Mexican painter, printmaker, illustrator and stage designer. In 1903 he began studying painting in Guadalajara under Félix Bernardelli, an Italian who had established a school of painting and music there, and he produced his first illustrations for Revista moderna, a magazine that promoted the Latin American modernist movement and for which his cousin, the poet Amado Nervo, wrote. In 1905 he enrolled at the Escuela Nacional de Arte in Mexico City, where Diego Rivera was also studying, and won a grant to study in Europe. After two years in Madrid, Montenegro moved in 1907 to Paris, where he continued his studies and had his first contact with Cubism, meeting Picasso, Braque and Gris.
After a short stay in Mexico, Montenegro returned to Paris. At the outbreak of World War I he moved to Barcelona and from there to Mallorca, where he lived as a fisherman for the next four years. During his stay in Europe he assimilated various influences, in particular from Symbolism, from Art Nouveau (especially Aubrey Beardsley) and from William Blake.
On his return to Mexico, Montenegro worked closely with José Vasconcelos, Secretary of State for Public Education during the presidency of Alvaro Obregón in the early 1920s, faithfully following his innovative ideas on murals and accompanying him on journeys in Mexico and abroad. He was put in charge of the Departamento de Artes Plásticas in 1921 and was invited by Vasconcelos to ‘decorate’ the walls of the former convent, the Colegio Máximo de S Pedro y S Pablo in Mexico City. The first of these works, executed in 1922, consisted of the mural Tree of Life , relating the origin and destiny of man, and two designs for richly ornamented stained-glass windows influenced by popular art: Guadalajara Tap-dance and The Parakeet-seller. They were followed by two further murals in the same building: the Festival of the Holy Cross (1923–4), representing the popular festival of 3 May celebrated by bricklayers and stonemasons, and Resurrection (1931–3), with a geometric composition bearing a slight Cubist influence. Further murals followed, including Spanish America (1924; Mexico City, Bib. Ibero-Amer. & B.A.), an allegory of the historical and spiritual union of Latin America in the form of a map, and The Story, also known as Aladdin’s Lamp (1926; Mexico City, Cent. Escolar Benito Juárez), a formally designed painting with Oriental figures similar in style to a mural made for Vasconcelos’s private offices.
Although Montenegro claimed to be a ‘subrealist’ rather than a Surrealist, in his easel paintings he mixed reality and fantasy; two such works, which fall well within the bounds of Surrealism, were shown in 1940 at the International Exhibition of Surrealism held at the Galería de Arte Mexicano in Mexico City. In his later work Montenegro evolved an abstract style, although he never lost his interest in popular, pre-Hispanic and colonial art. He was also a fine portrait painter, and from the 1940s to the 1960s he produced a splendid series of self-portraits in which he is shown reflected in a convex mirror, thus combining elements of Mannerism and popular art. He illustrated books, made incursions into stage design, working for both the ballet and the theatre, and in 1934 created the Museo de Arte Popular in the recently inaugurated Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, becoming its first director.

Rosenberg Lev Samoylovich called Bakst was a painter and a stage designer of Belorussian birth. Born into a middle class Jewish family, Bakst was educated in St Peterburg, attending the Academy of Arts. Bakst traveled regularly to Europe and North Africa and studied in Paris with a number of notable artists at the Academie Julian. With Alexander Benois and Serge Diaghlev he was a founder of the WORLD OF ART group in 1898. In 1906 he became a drawing teacher at the Yelizaveta Zvantseva's private school in St Peterburg.
Bakst realized his greatest artistic success in the theatre. In 1909 he collaborated with Diaghilev in the founding of Ballets Russes, where he acted as artistic director, and his stages designs rapidly brought him international fame. Between 1909 and 1921 his name became inseparable from the Ballets Russes. He also designed for other celebrities, included the artist producers Vera Komissarzhervskaya in 1906, Ida Rubinstein between 1911 to 1924. He settled in Paris in 1912, having being exiled from St Peterburg where, as a Jew he was unable to obtain a residence permit.
Bakst was arguably the most accomplish painter, as well as designer, in the World of Art group. His early preferences were for Realist painters and Old Masters, such as Rembrandt and Velazquez. The animated line and relaxed postures in his portraiture also suggest the influence of his close friend Valentin Serov. Through Benois and his circle Bakst was attracted to "retrospectivism" and Orientalism, and motifs from ancient Greece and Egypt became signatures in his easel paintings and theoretical work. The Benois circle also introduced him to Symbolism and Art Nouveau.

Volkstheater - People's Theatre
The Volkstheater (2008)
The Volkstheater is one of the most important Schauspielbühnen (drama stages) of Vienna. It was founded in 1889 by the poet Ludwig Anzengruber and the industrialist Felix Fischer by the Association of the German folk theater (Volkstheater), to create an alternative to the Imperial Hofburg Theatre, the latter one the representation of everyday life, the folksy and comedic elements keeping away from its stage boards. The first president of the club was the famous stool manufacturer Franz Thonet. The founders intended in addition to folk plays mainly classical and modern dramas being performed and to provide a broad class of population access to the theater. Therefore the famous Theaterarchitektenduo (duo of theater architects) Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer the neo-Renaissance building with the representative column loggia have given a large auditorium with little boxes and many exits to the outside, by which this building in the style of historicism became a model for the entire monarchy. The auditorium with the ceiling painting by Eduard Veith, showing the coronation of the Austrian poets Ferdinand Raimund, Johann Nepomuk Nestroy and Ludwig Anzengruber, is one of the last in its original state preserved audiences in Vienna and was with 1900 seats formerly the largest in the entire German-speaking world. Today, the capacity of the theater is 970 places and it is the second largest theater stage in Vienna. According to safety regulations, which were adopted after the Ring Theatre fire in Vienna in 1881, the Volkstheater was the first exclusively electrically lit theater house.
History
On 14 September 1889 opened the theater its doors with Ludwig Anzengruber's drama "The stain on the honor". The bourgeoisie and the aristocracy of money (Geldadel) called the new theater "their house" and thus defied the exclusively reserved for the aristocracy Court Theatre, whose artistic director initially even harbored takeover plans. When the popular theater was run down and broke, he then wanted to buy it cheap. But the people theater celebrated one success after another. Just one year after the opening had to be enlarged the stage area. In 1907 were added a further extension with additional foyer and 1911 more stage side rooms.
In the 1920s, the Volkstheater experienced under the theater directors Alfred Bernau and Rudolf Beer artistic highlights. Spectacular repertoires, prominent actors, directors and stage designers of that time continued the success story of the theater. From 1938 to 1945, the theater became part of the Nazi leisure program "Strength through Joy" of the German Labor Front under Walter Bruno Iltz. In the years 1938/1939 was rebuilt the theater and removed the sculptural decoration on the facade. For a visit of Adolf Hitler even a reception and break room was extra set up, the so-called leaders room (Führerzimmer). In 1944 the dome and foyers were destroyed in an attack, a year later the building was restored but for the time being it was decided not to reconstruct the dome and the facade decoration. Only in the course of a general renovation in the early 1980s the dome was restored. On 10 May 1945, the theater was reopened. After the war, the director and actor Günther Haenel became director of the theater. His game plan focused mainly socio-critical issues.
In the following two decades (1950s and 1960s) dominated on the initiative Leon Epps' contemporary plays and bold interpretations of classics the theater program and the popular theater became famous with Raimund and Nestroy interpretations under the direction of Gustav Manker. Manker became at the beginnings of the 1970s director of the theater and celebrated breakthroughs with the discovery of modern Austrian dramatic literature.
In 1954, the play series "People's Theatre in the districts" was launched. Individual productions of popular theater are presented in external venues in the districts of Vienna. Among these secondary venues since 2005 the "Hundsturm (dogs tower)" as a smaller stage is included in which experimental theater works are staged. But also in the main building of the popular theater are additional venues located, like the "Red Bar" (in the buffet room on the first floor), the "Black Salon", the "White Salon" and the "Reception Room" (formerly "Führerzimmer"). Since 2009/10 in Bellaria Cinema at Museum Street behind the People's Theatre the production "Go West ? - Young authors write for the popular theater" has its home.
The auditorium (2009)
On both sides of the main house in the Neustiftgasse watch "the good spirits of the Viennese popular theater". In the nearby small Weghuberpark sits theater buffoonery poet Ferdinand Raimund suspended in reverie on a marble bench, surrounded by the feminine genius of fantasy. This sculpture was created by the Austrian sculptor Franz Vogl 1898. At the corner of Burggasse/Museum Street a bust of the famous Austrian actress Johanna "Hansi" Niese (by Josef Müllner, 1952) reminds of the triumph of comedic presentation at the beginning of the century.

Bernar Venet was born to Jean-Marie Venet, a school teacher and chemist, and Adeline Gilly and was the youngest of four boys. He was brought up in Château-Arnoux-Saint-Auban and had a religious upbringing, aspiring to become a missionary. He had struggled with asthma and academic subjects at school, while excelling in drawing and painting. With the support of a local artist; however, he became interested in painting and drawing at a young age. At age 11, discovering a book on Pierre-Auguste Renoir, he first understood that he might be able to forge a career out of his particular talent.
After several attempts at gaining a formal education in the arts, he worked as a stage designer at the Nice Opera in 1959. In 1961, Venet joined the French Army whilst also starting to establish his style as an artist. During this period, he painted with tar, creating his art with his feet in a gestural style. This work eventually developed into black monochromatic paintings which eschewed all forms of action painting.

Giovanni Paolo Panini was born in Piacenza where he first trained under a stage designer. He later moved to Rome to study drawing and began specializing in decorations. In 1716, Panini was painting depictions of Rome’s ancient and modern monuments. Not long after, he began receiving recognition, joining the Congregazione dei Virtuosi al Pantheon and the Accademia di San Luca. He eventually taught at the latter and became the principal. Beginning in the 1720’s. Panini painted frescoes for important clients including the pope. He also taught at the Academie de France in Rome where he influenced Jean-Honore Fragonard.

It was founded in 1889 by the poet Ludwig Anzengruber and the industrialist Felix Fischer by the Association of the German folk theater (Volkstheater), to create an alternative to the Imperial Hofburg Theatre, the latter one the representation of everyday life, the folksy and comedic elements keeping away from its stage boards. The first president of the club was the famous stool manufacturer Franz Thonet. The founders intended in addition to folk plays mainly classical and modern dramas being performed and to provide a broad class of population access to the theater. Therefore the famous Theaterarchitektenduo (duo of theater architects) Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer the neo-Renaissance building with the representative column loggia have given a large auditorium with little boxes and many exits to the outside, by which this building in the style of historicism became a model for the entire monarchy. The auditorium with the ceiling painting by Eduard Veith, showing the coronation of the Austrian poets Ferdinand Raimund, Johann Nepomuk Nestroy and Ludwig Anzengruber, is one of the last in its original state preserved audiences in Vienna and was with 1900 seats formerly the largest in the entire German-speaking world. Today, the capacity of the theater is 970 places and it is the second largest theater stage in Vienna. According to safety regulations, which were adopted after the Ring Theatre fire in Vienna in 1881, the Volkstheater was the first exclusively electrically lit theater house.
History
On 14 September 1889 opened the theater its doors with Ludwig Anzengruber's drama "The stain on the honor". The bourgeoisie and the aristocracy of money (Geldadel) called the new theater "their house" and thus defied the exclusively reserved for the aristocracy Court Theatre, whose artistic director initially even harbored takeover plans. When the popular theater was run down and broke, he then wanted to buy it cheap. But the people theater celebrated one success after another. Just one year after the opening had to be enlarged the stage area. In 1907 were added a further extension with additional foyer and 1911 more stage side rooms.
In the 1920s, the Volkstheater experienced under the theater directors Alfred Bernau and Rudolf Beer artistic highlights. Spectacular repertoires, prominent actors, directors and stage designers of that time continued the success story of the theater. From 1938 to 1945, the theater became part of the Nazi leisure program "Strength through Joy" of the German Labor Front under Walter Bruno Iltz. In the years 1938/1939 was rebuilt the theater and removed the sculptural decoration on the facade. For a visit of Adolf Hitler even a reception and break room was extra set up, the so-called leaders room (Führerzimmer). In 1944 the dome and foyers were destroyed in an attack, a year later the building was restored but for the time being it was decided not to reconstruct the dome and the facade decoration. Only in the course of a general renovation in the early 1980s the dome was restored. On 10 May 1945, the theater was reopened. After the war, the director and actor Günther Haenel became director of the theater. His game plan focused mainly socio-critical issues.
In the following two decades (1950s and 1960s) dominated on the initiative Leon Epps' contemporary plays and bold interpretations of classics the theater program and the popular theater became famous with Raimund and Nestroy interpretations under the direction of Gustav Manker. Manker became at the beginnings of the 1970s director of the theater and celebrated breakthroughs with the discovery of modern Austrian dramatic literature.
In 1954, the play series "People's Theatre in the districts" was launched. Individual productions of popular theater are presented in external venues in the districts of Vienna. Among these secondary venues since 2005 the "Hundsturm (dogs tower)" as a smaller stage is included in which experimental theater works are staged. But also in the main building of the popular theater are additional venues located, like the "Red Bar" (in the buffet room on the first floor), the "Black Salon", the "White Salon" and the "Reception Room" (formerly "Führerzimmer"). Since 2009/10 in Bellaria Cinema at Museum Street behind the People's Theatre the production "Go West ? - Young authors write for the popular theater" has its home.

On both sides of the main house in the Neustiftgasse watch "the good spirits of the Viennese popular theater". In the nearby small Weghuberpark sits theater buffoonery poet Ferdinand Raimund suspended in reverie on a marble bench, surrounded by the feminine genius of fantasy. This sculpture was created by the Austrian sculptor Franz Vogl 1898. At the corner of Burggasse/Museum Street a bust of the famous Austrian actress Johanna "Hansi" Niese (by Josef Müllner, 1952) reminds of the triumph of comedic presentation at the beginning of the century.

Tower of London Remembers.
To mark the centenary anniversary of the First World War the Tower of London is creating an evolving art installation "Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red". Formed of 888,246 ceramic poppies by artist Paul Cummins, with setting by stage designer Tom Piper, each poppy represents a British military fatality during the war. The installation was officially unveiled on 5 August 2014, one hundred years since the first full day of Britain's involvement in the First World War and will be in place until 11 November 2014.
On 24 August I helped to build a just a little more of the installation by constructing and planting a batch of poppies. I believe it is now (as in these photos) about a quarter completed. Each poppy is a life lost - when it is completed maybe it will help to demonstrate the scale of those numbers which we really cannot imagine.
