St Catherine, Ludham, Norfolk
A large and interesting church in the Norfolk Broads. The 15th Century screen is in excellent condition with a good array of saints, and above it is the curiosity of a tympanum with a rood scene painted on it. The tympanum was reversed at the Reformation and painted with one of Norfolk's three surviving sets of royal arms to Elizabeth I. Reversed back, the tympanum now faces the altar.
The font is another curiosity, for among the woodwoses on the stem, one was clearly intended to be female, the only known example.
St Mary's church at Newnham Murren is a small building consisting of nave and chancel of equal length, with an aisle to the south. Externally it appears to be a mainly 13th century structure, but much earlier work remains inside in the plain early Norman chancel arch.
The church was declared redundant in the 1970s and was vested in the Churches Conservation Trust.
The interior is simple with a few old furnishings such as the Jacobean pulpit and an Elizabethan family brass in the short south aisle. An unusually rounded squint is situated to the right of the chancel arch.
The east window is the work of William Wailes of Newcastle and features four pictoral medallions set in grisaille. Despite having releaded the window in the 1990s and repainted several parts of the grisaille glass this was my first visit to the church and sight of the glass I worked on in situ.
Sorry I haven't been posting regularly...it's summer though and I'm a busy person.
We had a grad party for my sister and I this weekend and there were more little kids there then big kids, it was a lot of fun. Then I saw Toy Story 3 :)

Squinting at this photo I saw a blue sign indicating that this intersection has been officially designated as The Center of the Universe! (Who knew?)
It didn't take long for Olivia to recognize that when the camera's focus light went on, it meant that a bright flash would soon follow, and here she is squinting in preparation of the flash.

After much hacking, cursing and keyboard bashing; I've managed to get my photo database to import photos scanned from film.
This makes it much easier for me to add film photos to Flickr.
Also, I've just finished scanning 3 rolls of film (from 3 different cameras) from Peak.
There may be a small backlog.
Squinting in the sun, on the edge of the world.
Some random hiker asked if I would take his photo so in return he snaped mine as well, I have to admit I was more nervous of him dropping my iphone than falling off the side of that edge.
