Forests come in all sizes. This impossibly tiny sprout was growing inside the trunk of a small and ancient bonsai tree, with a sharp ray of sunlight streaking over it. It has secret ambitions of growing up to hundreds of feet tall.
Our soaking rains have been enough to sprout the Buckeye nuts...Hopefully the rains will continue long enough for it's root to penetrate deeply to give the new seedling a chance to survive our dry Summer season.
Its Sunday again.
It would be nice to lay in bed, but I don't want to get fat feet, so am up at six, and after coffee we are out of the door just before seven.
Jools goes swimming, while i go to the bike, and instead of cycling round a city or national park, I go to You Tube as the bike has internet access, and line up a video from a train cab in Switzerland.
Only trouble with that was not being able to see the info page or the time ticking, so as the train sped through the snow-covered fields of Switzerland, the time passed.
I did know the podcast I was listening to had only 44 minutes left t run when I started, so get to the end or near the end, and I would have done it.
I did three minutes short. Which is OK, and as I though Jools would go to the steam room after her swim, I got a coffee and sat down with a flapjack too.
Jools appeared.
No sauna.
So I drank up and we left via the petrol station at Tesco, and then home.
We had another brew, listened to the radio before I had a shower and changed, again.
The morning passed.
We ate at one: grilled duck breast, flavoured rice, creamed spinach, sprouts with bacon and peas.
All very nice and fairly healthy. Apart from the duck, the cream in the spinach and the streaky bacon.
And the beer.
And football in the afternoon. Rangers up first, losing to Hearts in Scottish kickyball. Then Villa v Man Utd, which was good, and Villa won.
Earlier, England lost The Ashes in 11 days. 11 days to lose three tests. It happened overnight when I slept, so can pretend it never happened.
Sprouts. I know, a bit late for starting sweet corn but with a huge rabbit population I decided to try starting them on my porch for transplanting to a new rabbit proof part of the garden. Won't be knee high on the 4th of July and given my bad historical record with corn, I will be thrilled to get a could of meals worth of ears.

Unlike most green vegetables, Brussels sprouts are rather high in protein.
Although the protein is incomplete—lacking the full spectrum of essential amino acids—a serving of whole grains will make them complete.
A member of the cabbage family, Brussels sprouts are a cruciferous vegetable.
If you did a basic translation it says ... "In the dust, sprout the words of dreams" however, justamanPeter said it perfectly..."in the dust of words are born dreams"... my apologies...my French is rusty.. Peter you are perfect...
Adapted this recipe for myself. Such a nice, quick bread that's hearty and fantastic with soups. Like the one bowl of decadent soup that was leftover from last night!♥
Sprouted Wheat Soda Bread
4 cups (16 oz) sprouted wheat flour
1 Teaspoon baking soda
1 Teaspoon salt
14 oz alternative buttermilk (I used almond milk with a spoon of apple cider vinegar, let sit for a few minutes)
Method:
Preheat the oven to 425 F. degrees. Cut a piece of parchment paper to line cake pan.
In a large bowl sieve and combine all the dry ingredients.
Add the 'buttermilk' to form a sticky dough. Place on floured surface and lightly knead (too much allows the gas to escape)
Shape into a round flat shape in a round cake pan and cut a cross in the top of the dough.
Cover the pan with another pan and bake for 30 minutes (this simulates the bastible pot). Remove cover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
The bottom of the bread will have a hollow sound when tapped so show it is done.
Cover the bread in a tea towel and lightly sprinkle water on the cloth to keep the bread moist.
Radish and broccoli sprouts on a pita with homemade hummus. Sprinkle some lemon juice and olive oil, along with some salt and ground pepper, and this sandwich is complete.

yup brussel sprouts still on the stalk, before they were plucked, chopped up, and sauteed with pancetta and cream... oh so healthy right!
