Rebecca was so kind to share this photo of the Sprout Patterns Grainline Studio Alder Shirtdress she made. I really love the placement of the print especially on the collar.

This design is my take on the "animals by land" challenge.Chalk pastel drawing by me.

Newton's dead, Einstein's dead, and I don't feel well either... Something very like this saying is attributed to Mark Twain, but this is my husband's version; as a good Bavarian he knows all about sausages (Würste) but maybe only in German could there be a term for ‘sausage poisoning’ (Wurstvergiftung - my source being the wonderful LEO, translator out of Munich Technical University).

This classic deep dark red, Bavarian blue, black & white flannel plaid with grimy textural overlays, channels the grunge look of the early 1990s, described by Rick Marin in a NY Times piece in 1992 as: “the smelly-caveman look”, “ratty rec-room chic”, with “the boho-hobo staples of second-hand attire” including “ripped jeans, untucked flannel and stomping boots”. The components of the look were cheap, durable and timeless – rather than chosen for their high fashion statements. "It wasn't like somebody said, 'Let's all dress like lumberjacks and start Seattle chic!' " according to Jonathon Poneman (a founder of Sub Pop - credited with inventing ‘grunge’). “Grunge: A Success Story” by Rick Marin, published November 15, 1992 in the New York Times.

'On the road by Su_G' in a Cashmerette-designed 'Appleton dress' (mockup c/o Sprout Patterns).

Cashmerette 'designs for curves' and I know for a fact that this is a very flattering silhouette. I tried the edgings in the stronger colours from the design but felt that the more neutral white worked best - but the beauty of Sprout Patterns is that you can design it as *you* like it! Full of mysterious marine life, and was my entry in Spoonflower's Animals of the Ocean Design Challenge. I think this design could make terrific board shorts for the beach, maybe even keep sharks away - although I wouldn't rely on THAT!

'Vanessa adult wings' (pattern by Mainsail Studio) in 'Ombres by Su_G' - Collection (Mockup c/o Sprout Patterns)

Sadly Sprout Patterns is to be abandoned soon, so this is a last chance to get your personnalized 'Vaness adult wings' and my picture tries to show 'at a glance' how it all works - and some of the potential.

I used my ombre designs to create these 'adult wings' with a body & two different inserts but you can use whatever designs you want.

So, when last seen, this project was just a glimmer in my eye...or a mockup in Sprout Patterns...

So I'm excited to see my fabric design ('Book covers on notepaper') printed in the actual pattern pieces (of Sew Liberated's Schoolhouse tunic which I ordered from Sprout Patterns). I chose the lightweight Cotton Lawn as the fabric type to print the pattern onto, and it feels beautifully smooth & cool.

If you look hard at the picture you can see:

a) the two different scales of the (same) design printed on one piece of fabric; and

b) the pattern pieces labelled 'LEFT SLEEVE' and 'BODICE FRONT RIGHT'.

My next steps are to wash & iron the fabric and then cut out the pieces and sew!

Mermaid Paula wearing 'Sloan leggings' in my 'Dragon Scales for the Irish Dragon, in greens' design, printed on Sport Lycra by Spoonflower.

'Sloan Leggings' are by the pattern maker Hey June Handmade on SproutPatterns. I really like the design of these leggings: the waist looks comfortable, and you can see in the pictures that they are 'active' wear. It was also interesting to read about the vital role played by Adrianna's testers in pattern development.

Rebecca looks so great in the Sprout Patterns Grainline Studio Alder Shirtdress she made with scallops and squiggles fabric from Spoonflower.

See Kate Sew's Penelope Peplum in one of my Su_G designs: 'Slithering snakes on red by Su_G'. 'Slithering snakes on red by Su_G'.

I've always liked peplums. They're helpful in flattering all shapes and sizes of waist and hips; and depending on the proportions they can also add height.

It was fun to find the best scale for this design and I think I achieved a pretty nice match in the pattern at the waist. It would be great if it actually printed like this but I understand that that is not guaranteed yet.

'Wheels up in off-white by Su_G' in a tablecloth mockup (c/o Roostery)

Since I made this design I've been reading about solar symbolism and ancient Celtic goddesses and wonder if that's why these very basic shapes are so appealing (not because they decorate goddesses but because they're so ancient... they also remind me of so-called 'primitive' pictograms & pictographs seen in many places).

'Surf dots on chocolate by Su_G' in Baby leggings, clothing pattern by Brindille and Twig (mockup c/o Sprout Patterns, alas soon to be deceased)

I think these could be very practical for active toddlers, with a color scheme good for disguising dirt and dropped food blobs (hmm, maybe I need a pair). In case you're wondering about the color scheme, it's from from Spoonflower's restricted palette Surfing Contest; and is a coordinate for my feature design: 'Towel surfing'.

Grainline Studio's Portside Duffel Bag in 3 related Su_G designs, with the upper body in 'Biscuits you can't eat, MEDIUM' and the lower body in 'Cookies I can't eat... I won't eat', and the ends and pocket in 'The cookies that ate Lichtenstein'.

This somewhat messy picture is showing two things (apart from some of my stranger designs...):

1) how you can use more than one design to construct an item - with the upper and lower body, ends and pocket above in 3 different designs; and

2) how terrific the 3-D rendered image is for visualising surface designs turned into 3-D fabric items. Still needs more accuracy between the 3-D render and the 2-D pattern placement (you can see some differences if you look). Still - it's about 80% better than my imagination!
