Today was the first day of service for the Sprinter rail service in North San Diego County. The DMUs are built by Siemens, operated by the North County Transit District, and run between Oceanside and Escondido. Not techincally light rail, each car has a diesel engine under the floor. No wires!
Predictable, reliable, fast, inovative.....
29 years ago this month, MILW 2010 and "MILW" 2067 lead the eastbound Sprint under the Bridge Street bridge on the east end of Oconomowoc.
The power here has some special memories for me: 2010 ended up being the very last operating Bandit on CP which I luckily caught one last glance of just before it was sent away and one number board from 2067 ended up stuffed and mounted on my wall.
Everything in this shot is gone today, except the rails the train is on and the earth supporting it.

Sprinter No 150113 comes under the old canopy at Mytholmroyd with a service for Leeds on March 4 2016.

Not sure if it's more 1957 Chevy or 1959 Cadillac, but I like it.
Each fin equipped with triplettes of 1959 Caddy Bullet lights...

The pop-ups are controlled by a little knob you turn on the dashboard. One knob for up-down and one knob for the electrics.

An Arriva Trains Wales Sprinter DMU, 150217, on the Manchester Piccadilly to Milford Haven service, passes through the wonderful rural setting of Pontrilas in south Herefordshire, half a mile from the border with Wales. There used to be a railway station here which closed in 1958 and is now a B + B.
The charming little signal box at Pontrilas has been in operation for 134 years dating back to 1880. It is a McKenzie and Holland design which had 42 lever frames in 1910 but now only has 14 operating levers. Nevertheless, it is an important signal box that controls frequent passenger traffic passing along the Welsh Marches Line and controls an important northbound loop, which acts as a relief line for freight traffic.
