...at long last! I have landed upon a true Kmart store for the first time since 2013. It would seem unfortunate to have missed out on other stores which closed since then around, but I am glad to land upon this store operating as usual. The store was quite a sight to observe the usual trends of Kmart.
As they made their way to the Mid-Atlantic around then, I would believe this is an early-70s build. The store is in the Springfield Plaza, a long-standing shopping center featuring various stores including Giant and Trader Joe's. The Kmart store has received the usual interior/slight exterior changes since, and currently remains at the mid-2000s red/black interior with several later exceptions. I would say that this store was in a passable condition, nicely stocked and packed however felt like a maze with the high shelves and ceiling beams dividing the store. This location also appears to have not had a pharmacy.

State government institutions include the Illinois General Assembly, the Illinois Supreme Court and the Office of the Governor of Illinois. Each year Springfield (Massachusetts) does a great fireworks display. We're pretty sure the lower spray you see here was a misfire, but certainly added to the show. Thanks for looking!

On display at the Sarasota Classic Car Museum is the Rolls-Royce Ghost that circus magnate John Ringling bought in 1922. The chassis was manufactured at the Rolls-Royce America plant in Springfield MA, one of 1,703 ‘Springfield Ghosts’ plus 1,241 Phantoms produced there before operations ceased in 1931. The coachwork is by Brewster & Co. of Long Island City NY.

The concept came to life during an event that started September 2017, to help raise funds to benefit downtown revitalization. It’s a pop up art event in where you can watch artists compete to create a mural in one day and unveil it during a reception party that night. Each year the murals change, making this a great spot to visit and wander through and take pics or the amazing artwork!

Illinois State Capitol Building: ground was broken for the new capitol on March 11, 1868, and the building was completed in 1888.
This building is another even mix between it's Tapped Out appearance and the one often seen in the show.
I was considering building the courthouse and/or Monty Burn's mansion but after building this I felt that the architectural styles were too similar, so I left them out of the layout in order to include more variety. Not that I can't do them in the future, of course.

The building features a buff brick exterior, decorative spandrel panels, limestone trim, geometric motifs, including ziggurat-shaped brick panels over the third-floor windows, one-over-one double-hung windows, decorative piers, and a heavily modified first floor facade. The building is a contributing structure in the Central Springfield Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and expanded to its present size in 2016.
