This time of year the beginning of the Major League Baseball season is something I am really looking forward to. The Toronto Blue Jays first Spring Training game will be on February 22.
Btw, this is my beat up old catcher's mitt which is one of my favourites for playing catch with my son, sons-in-law, grandsons or whoever comes along. The baseball has been used a fair amount too.

In honor of spring training and longing for warmer weather.
Major League Baseball holds is its spring training from mid-February until opening day of the regular season in April. The teams go to either Florida or Arizona for spring training. It’s called the Cactus League in Arizona and the Grapefruit league in Florida. My photograph this week is of a baseball and two grapefruits in reference to the Florida Grapefruit League. (The background between the baseball and front grapefruit is also a grapefruit.) The baseball I used is one that was fouled into the stadium over the net at a Rome Braves Minor League game in Rome, GA. We were driving to Florida from Ohio on vacation a few years ago and stopped in Rome overnight. We were sitting behind home plate and the ball was fouled into the section next to us. There was no one in that section and my nephew ran over to get the ball and gave it to my son.
Lit with two 30W bulbs. One to camera left behind the baseball and the other front to camera right aimed toward the baseball. HMM!
The date - March 19, The place - The Lehigh Gorge Rail Trail. The temp. 74 degrees!!!!!!!!!!!!! A month earlier than normal. Off we went!!
Unfortunately, the path wasn't refurbished. So we had a "washboard ride" . Our "glutes" were hurting, but it soooo nice to get to it again. We did 12 of the 26 mile run!!!

It's ball season, and Ripley is ready to start training . . . like she needs any! If she misses, it's usually my fault due to a poor pitch. So glad it's spring!

Prospect Blake Swihart doubles to right field for the Red Sox against the Pirates. Didn't have my SLR with me but captured this with my point and shoot. You can see the ball exiting the left side of the frame.
My son Jason and I at spring training at the Padres/Mariners Peoria, Az. stadium. The Rangers were playing the Padres. 33 hits and 22 runs in this game, what a game. Unfortunately the Ranges lost.
With the return of the Red Winged Blackbird's song,Canadian Pacific's tech train makes it's journey over the terrain in preparation for this seasons trackwork on the Watertown sub.
