Stow, Massachusetts has a spring festival every year around this time. Since this year is our Tercentenquarternary (our town's 325th anniversary) we made a little extra effort to interest the kids. We got a couple of farm tractors and some construction equipment and closed a road and parked them all where the kids could get a good hands-on look at them.

On the left is the town road grader (1958 model, bought used by the town in 1969). On the right you can just see the end of a disk harrow, then one of the town dump trucks with a snow plow (which, fortunately, we didn't need for this celebration although it has snowed in previous celebrations), a town backhoe, a local contractor's excavator, another local contractor's loader, and finally a cement truck. You can see our Tercentenquarternary logo on the t-shirt.

The kids (and the parents) were interested in the display and they had fun. All the trucks and tractors had been washed for the occasion, but I had a tube of degreaser and a roll of paper towels on hand for those kids that found the exposed grease on the trucks that the washers missed.

At a local school about 100 yards away there were lots of displays and kids' games. Big parade to kick it off. Kids put on a play in the afternoon.

It rained all night. At 5:30 am when we were setting up it was still drizzling a bit. It stopped around 7 and the sun came out for the parade at 10 and lasted for the rest of the day.

It's that time of year at the University of Illinois Springfield! Time for Springfest! This year's theme is The Springfest Games.

The week-long event comes to a close with the much anticipated Sports Day, where teams compete against each other in flag football, sand volleyball, kickball, horseshoes, frisbee golf, life-size Jenga, dodgeball and badminton. The finale for the day and the the last place to score points is during mud tug-of-war, a highlight for many of the participants.

Springfest Sports Day activites Saturday, April 21, 2018.

The Springfest tradition continues with students participating in a scavenger hunt, flag and chant, and sports day. The annual event proves to be one of the most popular.

It all came down to the mud pit, as it does every year at Springfest. Teams spent Sports Day playing kick ball, volleyball, badminton, flag football and other games. The final challenge was mud tug of war. Nary a person escaped mud splatter. Students and alumni often say Springfest is their favorite tradition at UIS.
