Our Little Gem Magnolia is blooming. I'm so happy. It suffered damage during the last heavy, wet snowfall of the winter when the main leader snapped off. I had our arborist prune it up to try and make it look good while it recovers and it has lots of buds and blooms. This one blooms from spring through first frost.
So it was 85F on Saturday then the temperature plummeted and we had a very violent thunderstorm Monday night. Lots of flooding along the rivers and some roads were closed due to flooding. Then last night was in the 30s with a chance of snow!!! It did not snow but we had more rain...
The weather has gotten very strange the last couple of years. The Primroses don't seem to mind.
Clematis 'Jackmanni Superba' now in bloom. We had another heavy rain storm night before last, more rain last night and more coming tonight! I run out and inspect and get whatever I can done in the garden between storms. Getting pretty tired of this weather!!!
...to leave us a few blossoms to enjoy! They really go after the Azaleas in winter and strip all the leaves off. Some buds manage to survive if they are near the ground or somehow hard to get to.
In the Lath House at JC Raulston Arboretum. The structure makes for lovely light and shadows.
I can't have Hydrangeas in my yard since the deer love them as much as I do! So I enjoy them whenever I can.

...the nest box war! Poppa has been standing guard over the box and as of today there's a beautiful pine needle Bluebird nest ready for eggs! Not a great shot as I has to stand far enough away for him to no fly off- maybe 75 feet or so.
Seven years on these trees have really grown! This year was the best ever for their blooms. What a different view than the one below when they were first planted!!!
This is zoomed so the house across the street looks much closer than it actually is.
In my garden. I especially love this one. The variegated leaves behind are from the False Solomons Seal.

My Columbine is starting to bloom. I have several colors and will try to get good shots of all of them! I just love this plant!
at the JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh NC. I love this- invites you in and just beyond is a meditation garden.
Today was a glorious spring day to visit Glenstone. Friends got tickets to this free but difficult to visit contemporary art museum. It houses a private art collection in an expansive series of buildings set on a beautiful property. There was more we did not see on this trip but well worth the trek.
From their website:
Guided by the personal vision of its founders, Glenstone assembles post-World War II artworks of the highest quality that trace the greatest historical shifts in the way we experience and understand art of the 20th and 21st centuries. These works are presented in a series of refined indoor and outdoor spaces designed to facilitate meaningful encounters for our visitors.
A honey bee on roses at the JC Raulston Arboretum i Raleigh NC. I adore the color of these roses and am always happy to see honey bees. There were a number of hives at the arboretum so honey bees were everywhere!!
It's been so hot here the last 10 days that I have spent very little time outside. We are expecting a nice, cooler weekend so hopefully some yard and boat time!
This is one that I have had for years. I moved some from my old garden and have collected and shared seeds with some of my Flickr friends. It's a little beauty that grows only about 1' tall but has lots of flowers.
The Butterfly Weed is blooming and I hope to see more butterflies now! So far this year I have seen only one Monarch and one Swallowtail in the yard early on when the Viburnum was in bloom. I plant lots of things for the adult and caterpillar stages so here's hoping!
...and in need of a redo! This bed has been taken over by the lady Ferns, Hardy Begonias and False Solomon's Seal! The Astilbes are all but hidden. Below is a picture of it right after I planted it. Next spring it gets a total redo!! I had to remove the Phlox as the deer kept eating them. They now reside in a friend's yard who has a tall fence!!
Beautiful Orion Beach, The little tree has been here for as long as I can remember (at least 40 years). I find her very inspirational, for me she stands for courage, strength and survival, no matter what the elements throw at her she hangs on for dear life. I visit her often especially in those tough times when I need grounding and strength myself she reminds me to stay strong and balanced In everything. At 55 you would think that you had done your growing, not so. The last 12 months have been some of the toughest for me but I have also learned the biggest lessons of my life. I am now awake, bloody wide awake. And life has just begun that is how I feel. And I have the little tree to thank for part of that enlightening journey. I have a few special trees in Jervis Bay and she is certainly one of them.
