In the Lath House at JC Raulston Arboretum. The structure makes for lovely light and shadows.

I can't have Hydrangeas in my yard since the deer love them as much as I do! So I enjoy them whenever I can.

In my garden. I especially love this one. The variegated leaves behind are from the False Solomons Seal.

...to leave us a few blossoms to enjoy! They really go after the Azaleas in winter and strip all the leaves off. Some buds manage to survive if they are near the ground or somehow hard to get to.

Seven years on these trees have really grown! This year was the best ever for their blooms. What a different view than the one below when they were first planted!!!

This is zoomed so the house across the street looks much closer than it actually is.

In the lattice house at JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, NC. It's a wonderful place.

These Clematis 'Multi-Blue' are going strong this year!

Back to rain again! Yesterday we had a tremendous thunder storm with heavy rain that caused lots of flooding around the area. We were driving home from our daughter's and it was quite challenging and I thought of pulling over a number of times, but we managed to get home safely.

...the nest box war! Poppa has been standing guard over the box and as of today there's a beautiful pine needle Bluebird nest ready for eggs! Not a great shot as I has to stand far enough away for him to no fly off- maybe 75 feet or so.

My Columbine is starting to bloom. I have several colors and will try to get good shots of all of them! I just love this plant!

Today was a glorious spring day to visit Glenstone. Friends got tickets to this free but difficult to visit contemporary art museum. It houses a private art collection in an expansive series of buildings set on a beautiful property. There was more we did not see on this trip but well worth the trek.

From their website:

Guided by the personal vision of its founders, Glenstone assembles post-World War II artworks of the highest quality that trace the greatest historical shifts in the way we experience and understand art of the 20th and 21st centuries. These works are presented in a series of refined indoor and outdoor spaces designed to facilitate meaningful encounters for our visitors.

A honey bee on roses at the JC Raulston Arboretum i Raleigh NC. I adore the color of these roses and am always happy to see honey bees. There were a number of hives at the arboretum so honey bees were everywhere!!

It's been so hot here the last 10 days that I have spent very little time outside. We are expecting a nice, cooler weekend so hopefully some yard and boat time!

...so looking for something sunny. From earlier this month. This Iris is 'Wabash' and came from my grandmother's garden- as did all my Iris. It's very prolific and I have been able to share many pieces with friends.

Our spring in the Cleveland area was very late this year due to several cold snaps. It took a lot of heat before the hydrangeas bloomed.

The Butterfly Weed is blooming and I hope to see more butterflies now! So far this year I have seen only one Monarch and one Swallowtail in the yard early on when the Viburnum was in bloom. I plant lots of things for the adult and caterpillar stages so here's hoping!

I wish I could share the fragrance of the Viburnums with you! I have two large shrubs and they perfume the yard with the slightest breeze!! I cut four little branches and brought them into the house and the aroma is wonderful!

At JC Raulston Arboretum. The blooms on these were much larger than I usually have in my garden. Amazing size and color.

Our Bluebirds fledged today. They were still in the box yesterday evening so they must have fledged early today. I came home from errands to find this one huddled by our garage door. Somehow he/she got all the way there from the other side of the house and yard. The parents are usually good about caring for them even after they fledge but I will keep an eye on this one. After I took this shot he/she hopped into the shade by a planter so I'm hopeful all will be well.
