This photo was taken over break on April 14th at my aunts house in Southern Pines. This birds nest was right behind the shutters of the house. Birds provide a number of resources to the environment. One of which is them being pollinators. This particular species I believe is a Chickadee because of the sounds its mother made. It is important that birds survive and reproduce because they pollinate plants, disperse seeds, scavenge carcasses, and recycle nutrients back into the earth. This particular species plays a role in recycling nutrients back into the earth and controlling insect populations including spiders. Without these roles fulfilled by the birds there would be less plants therefore less to eat for animals and us. Also, birds are a major food source for many animals such as snakes, spiders, wild cats, etc.. Without this food source there would be a decline in these animals which fulfill their own roles in the environment.

Hubby played hooky today and we went to Longwood Gardens to see the spring flowers-especially the tulips! The day started rainy but we watched the weather radar and timed our arrival to be after the rain. Was overcast but warm and a delightful day. We both took lots of pics...maybe he will share his with me!

They plant over 250,000 tulips each year. I met a lovely older woman from the Netherlands who told me that each year, her family would take a long bicycle ride through the tulips farms. We had a pleasant chat and I enjoyed meeting her.

Lovely specimens in MSU's horticulture gardens.

The most perfect of days blessed the 134th Annual Northfield Mount Hermon Commencement Celebrations at Thorndike Field on Sunday, May 21, 2017. Temperatures were in the low 70's, and a gentle breeze fanned the large crowd of family, friends and fans who gathered to salute the class of 2017. Photography by Glenn Minshall.
