This tree offered some resistance to the slide... and paid a heavy price
This is a snapped off tree we passed while out walking one day, Hazel I think, I love the textures, looks strong yet soft.

I'm guessing splinters were a serious issue with the folks who built and used this old 1830's barn. There was a chain limiting entrance - which was okay by me. Looked like there might be a few spiders in there!
