all that is gold does not glitter

not all those who wander are lost

the old that is strong does not wither

deep roots are not reached by the frost

Years ago, I used to walk in a lovely beech wood. I never could remember exactly how to get there. Today, I found myself in it by accident ! I will not forget again.

Processed in Topaz Studio with my own texture applied.

If any one of you has lost something precious to you, I hope you find it again, whether it be material or spiritual.

Thank you, as always, for taking a look.

We woke up at 4am to photograph Bow Lake and after that decided to take the 3 hour drive to Jasper and over to Malinge Lake and Spirit Island. This was a must see for me and was well worth the precious $$ to get there and for the boat ride. Enjoy!! VLOG below..

A low perspective on Spirit Island and the box canyon it sits in at the south end of Maligne Lake.

Spiritual: relating to or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things."

Standing here moved me and felt like I was standing in the middle of the grandest Cathedral or Mosque in the world.

The lake was named by

Father Pierre-Jean De Smet, Maligne meaning "wicked or malignant" in French. The harsh winters and turbulent passage of it's outlet to it's confluence with the Athabasca River were probably why he named it so. Seems it should have been called "Magnifique Lake" to me.

"The island is a spiritual place for the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, who believe mountains are physical representations of their ancestors. The fact that Spirit Island is surrounded on three sides by the same mountain range is very rare and makes it particularly significant to the Stoney."

"A Spiritual Meditation"

by Susan T. Reeves

Calm your heart,

and quiet your mind.

Listen to the rhythm

of your heart beat in time

With the music of your soul’s breath

Trust, and your heart won’t contest.

Free your spirit, let it soar,

Feel your being lift from the floor.

Let your body completely relax.

Slowly, you’ll start coming back

With such clarity of the mind,

Peace, to your soul will bind.

Awaken now, and be free

To walk your path and simply be.

A great first day of lifted lockdown yesterday. A morning looking for adders and an afternoon watching giant clouds fly across the sands. A real spiritual healing. Watching clouds is such a wonderful obsession. Spiritual Healing is by Toots and the Maytals

Sometimes all you need

Is your own spiritual language

Sometimes that is all you need

To come home

I wish I had known this

A lot earlier

It would have saved me

So much time

Sometimes you don't need

To explain it

Sometimes you need

To leave it alone

But most of all just believe it

And you will know you

Were right all along

Sometimes the reason you ended up in a place you didn't expect to be looks at you right in the face. But sometimes we also need reminding.

"Seeking deeper meaning in spirituality"

During the summer of my thirteenth year I found a job at a rental yard near my home. After a couple of paydays I ask my parents if I could redecorate my bedroom with my own money. They exchanged dubious glances and finally agreed. Down at the local hardware store I purchased two cans of beige paint and a wall mural of this very scene. I guess you could say that it has been somehow embedded into my spirit and soul over the decade that I viewed it, and there is definitely a spiritual connection for me.

Forty one years Later:

Last month, my partner in crime Bill McIntosh and I set off for the snowy mountain peaks and grassy meadows of the Canada Rockies. This stop "Maligne Lake"

Approaching the lake was heart breaking, almost to the point of tears for me.

For those of you that don't know, the bark beetle has ravaged this area and IMHO it only has a couple of years left before its all dead......No Freaking Joke, fifty percent of the trees leading into Maligne Lake are DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!

This location is purposely difficult to access or requires a boat ride to visit. It's quick too, I flew 1500 miles and was only afforded 15 minutes on land and then its back to the boat(Sadness again.) :-(

Was it all worth it, Hell Yeah!!!! Who knows if I'll ever see it that way again, before the beetles.

Spirit Island itself has its own sad love story to go along with it. It is said, a boy and girl from two different tribes would meet on Spirit Island weekly. Of course, they soon fell in love, but their tribes remained enemies. After the girl confessed the story of her forbidden love to her father (a chief), he banned her from ever returning to the Island. Heartbroken, her lover continued to visit the island, hoping to see the girl once more. He never saw her again and died on that very island and legend has it that his spirit still haunts the island, desperately searching for the girl to this very day.

Sorry to bum you guys out with all this sadness....In spite of this, Please have a great day, Hehe.

Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, I am always grateful for your views, comments, faves, and support, they are truly appreciated!! Have a great day my friends!! :)

Another image inspired by mythungoc's wonderful collection...

Sometimes I ride my bicycle through the places of strange calmness. It will force you to stop and unmount and observe. The forest communicate on strange levels with the soul. It keeps your counciousness out of the game, leaving only the weird sence of spiritual experience...

Forest fires and the resulting smoke have been a big deal in Canada since early spring and we certainly encountered it on our recent trip west - having to change plans because of road closures and contending with a smoky haze that irritated the lungs and made us and everything in the car smell like a campfire. It was particularly bad in British Columbia's Thompson Valley and Ontario - extending all the way from Kenora in the north down to Toronto and across the border into the US.

This image is from the west coast of Vancouver Island - the furthest point we were able to go. A couple of things attracted me to this scene - the layers in the landscape and the taller trees in the upper right - the few left standing on the edge of clearcut logging.

Old growth forest is something to behold - full of large trees, large ferns, large sections of mosses - pretty well large everything. I find it spiritual.

Azusa asobi is one of the most well known ritual performances in Shinto tradition. As an annual Spring performance, Azuma asobi was presented at Aoi matsuri Festival this afternoon. The performers wear a formal costume of konoe bukan, which is an entitled status as a security force in an imperial court before Japan's advent of modernity. The photograph was taken just before the performance began.

It is May and that means a lot of festivals are held in Kyoto, Japan. I am attending them as many as I can!

Rila monastery, Bulgaria, a popular spot to visit, but it's free of the tourist crowds at night, there's a basic but cheap and perfectly adequate place to stay just outside the monastery. Unfortunately it's not allowed for the public to go up to the upper floors, where the view would have been much better.
