A low perspective on Spirit Island and the box canyon it sits in at the south end of Maligne Lake.
Spiritual: relating to or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things."
Standing here moved me and felt like I was standing in the middle of the grandest Cathedral or Mosque in the world.
The lake was named by
Father Pierre-Jean De Smet, Maligne meaning "wicked or malignant" in French. The harsh winters and turbulent passage of it's outlet to it's confluence with the Athabasca River were probably why he named it so. Seems it should have been called "Magnifique Lake" to me.
"The island is a spiritual place for the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, who believe mountains are physical representations of their ancestors. The fact that Spirit Island is surrounded on three sides by the same mountain range is very rare and makes it particularly significant to the Stoney."

Thanks for taking a look and for any comments, faves and suggestions!
We woke up at 4am to photograph Bow Lake and after that decided to take the 3 hour drive to Jasper and over to Malinge Lake and Spirit Island. This was a must see for me and was well worth the precious $$ to get there and for the boat ride. Enjoy!! VLOG below..
A great first day of lifted lockdown yesterday. A morning looking for adders and an afternoon watching giant clouds fly across the sands. A real spiritual healing. Watching clouds is such a wonderful obsession. Spiritual Healing is by Toots and the Maytals
Artistic framing of a beautiful blossoming Almond tree set against a backdrop of rustic stone architecture.
Characterized by its dense cluster of pale pink to white blossoms, these trees are among the first to flower, signaling the end of winter and arrival of spring in various regions worldwide.
Almond trees thrive in light, well-drained soil, specifically in the mountainous regions of Saint Catherine in South Sinai. The blossoms are delicate and range in color from white to pale pink.
Historically, this tree holds significant cultural and spiritual symbolism in the region, a classic symbol of awakening, hope and new life.
The central placement of the tree makes it the undisputed focal point. The strong diagonal lines of the stone walls and pathway lead the viewer's eye towards the tree and into the scene. The framing by the walls creates a sense of depth and enclosure.
The color palette is dominated by the warm, earthy tones of the stone, which contrast nicely with the delicate white and pink blossoms and the patches of green foliage. The natural lighting appears soft and even, highlighting the textures of the stone and the intricate network of branches without creating harsh shadows.
The overall mood is tranquil and serene, capturing a moment of natural beauty within a structured, man-made environment. The image evokes a sense of spring and renewal in an arid landscape.
The inclusion of the stone path on the right acts as a leading line, drawing the viewer's eye into the background and providing a sense of place and depth.
The photograph excels in its textural contrast. There is a palpable tactile quality to the "rough, scaly" tree bark and the "cracked, weathered" surface of the stone blocks. These details create a "sense of touch" for the viewer, making the scene feel grounded and realistic.
The image evokes a sense of tranquility and the arrival of spring, as almond blossoms are known to be one of the first fruit trees to bloom, often signaling the change of seasons.

I'm so drawn to birds in flight. I think that is because they are symbolic for me of freedom and spiritual ascension.
I've used the central part of Nesster's TTV to enhance the light. Many thanks Nesster!
The mojo girls are inseparable. They bring each other and those they love good luck and have magical powers winning every one over with their beauty flashy selves and love to show off their moves. They flirt prance and are extremely entertaining. They are gentle. Loving spiritual beings.
Sometimes all you need
Is your own spiritual language
Sometimes that is all you need
To come home
I wish I had known this
A lot earlier
It would have saved me
So much time
Sometimes you don't need
To explain it
Sometimes you need
To leave it alone
But most of all just believe it
And you will know you
Were right all along
Sometimes the reason you ended up in a place you didn't expect to be looks at you right in the face. But sometimes we also need reminding.

Well I have seen a lot of photos lately from Maligne Lake and couldn't resist going through my old photos and edit a few that I hadn't previously. Spirit Island is just unlike anywhere else in the Rockies... Kris..
Sometimes I ride my bicycle through the places of strange calmness. It will force you to stop and unmount and observe. The forest communicate on strange levels with the soul. It keeps your counciousness out of the game, leaving only the weird sence of spiritual experience...

I love the short drive down to the coast an hour before sunset, as you reach the coast road at Ogmore by sea and head east, you can see what the light and clouds have in store. On this night, the sun was lighting up the limestone cliffs , and the dark blue hail clouds beyond was beautiful. Thin wisps of low cloud also caught the last suns rays, providing Spiritual Healing, by Toots and the Maytals . Nature is the best tonic.
Out of Scone west on the Bunnan road , which eventually comes out at Merriwa, this feature is clearly visible from the roadside. It being council property and not private , I jumped the fence and went in for a closer shot. It is a place called Owen's Gap , it feels very spiritual and wouldn't surprise me if the local indigenous tribe utilised this place in the past
Forest fires and the resulting smoke have been a big deal in Canada since early spring and we certainly encountered it on our recent trip west - having to change plans because of road closures and contending with a smoky haze that irritated the lungs and made us and everything in the car smell like a campfire. It was particularly bad in British Columbia's Thompson Valley and Ontario - extending all the way from Kenora in the north down to Toronto and across the border into the US.
This image is from the west coast of Vancouver Island - the furthest point we were able to go. A couple of things attracted me to this scene - the layers in the landscape and the taller trees in the upper right - the few left standing on the edge of clearcut logging.
Old growth forest is something to behold - full of large trees, large ferns, large sections of mosses - pretty well large everything. I find it spiritual.
That's a view into the cupola of one of two cone-shaped parts of church St. Josef in Holzkirchen, Bavaria. It was created by Munich architect Eberhard Wimmer and is seriously one of the most beautiful churches I've ever seen so far.

This park is located on the Great Plains in Alberta on the border between Canada and the United States of America. The Hoodoos can be found throughout the coulee where the Milk River winds it’s way. Hoodoos are rock sculptures carved out by erosion over time. This place has much spiritual meaning to the Blackfoot nation who used to live here. They help to maintain the integrity of this site. The Blackfoot people believed that when you saw a “face” in the rock, it was a spiritual connection to someone who has passed on. We spent a day walking among the hoodoos and we truly felt there was something special here.
Rila monastery, Bulgaria, a popular spot to visit, but it's free of the tourist crowds at night, there's a basic but cheap and perfectly adequate place to stay just outside the monastery. Unfortunately it's not allowed for the public to go up to the upper floors, where the view would have been much better.
