European Spindle (euonymus europaeus) - Sandy Hook National Seashore, New Jersey
Somewhat similar to American Bittersweet but with outrageous pink husks. Yet again another invasive species introduced into America for the colorful beauty of the fall ripening fruit. Children are attracted by the colorful fruit which results in numerous poisonings throughout Europe each Autumn. The shrub/tree gets its name from its extremely hard wood which was used to make spindles for spinning wool.

Progress on the singles for the Spindlers Quarterly challenge. I'm about half way through the singles now, but have had to stop as the spindle is full!
Spun on a .7-oz. Spindlewood spindle. 162 yards, .4 oz. Should be plied back on itself as it's very energized.

This is one I made myself. I started doing research on spinning and think that the Navajo Spindle is going to be my best bet with my hands.
So I bought the parts and started building. ^-^ Then I couldn't stand the plain wood anymore so I painted. He he.

It's pretty kidneys, tree of life (the renal medulla "leaves" are flower buds for new growth and flames for hope), butterfly-ish (rebirth, new life) with a purple heart for courage and some lime green and orange thrown in because they're Holly's fav colors.
