What an amazing plant this is - the common old European spindle tree (Euonymus europaeus).

I'm a big fan of the foreign species - planipes, bungeanus, cornutus and especially alatus but frankly our native species is equal to any of them.

The only problem as far as I can see is that it doesn't look like anything much for the rest of the year. It's not obtrusive or ugly though so easy to hide among the other plants until it steps forward and does it's thing in September.

Bud promised all the kids leaded glass lamps for Christmas. He was making them all in earth tones. I tried not to cringe. Later, I wandered into my father-in-law's work room and spotted the blue glass. Oooooh, purty! You like the blue glass? he asked. I like it too. But no one else does. Say, would you like your lamp in blues? Ooooh, yes, please. It was lovely. Looking back, it's the only thing I regret losing in the divorce.

My grandma made quilts. She gave each of us grandkids a quilt for our weddings. I remember a blue star quilt but the one I received was earth tones (what is it with the earth tones?). When she died, there was still a pile of quilt tops. My stepmom buried them in the back of her closet and wouldn't even let me see them, Loss from another divorce.

8/11/2021 A quiet mid day amble around Centenary Wood between Flitton & Pulloxhill looking for leaf mines, fungi and any photogenic subjects. It was cool and sunny at times. The ground was remarkably dry . When I arrived the small car park was covered in litter despite there being two large litter bins in the car park. At the time I arrived there was a dark coloured Renault Clio in the car park that i think contained a courting couple and they were still there when I left an hour or more later. I hopey are not living there?

The trees still have most of their leaves still but a lot were starting to turn. The Oak leaves had numerous marks where galls etc had been but I only found one leaf mine and one insect curled on the edge of an Oak to ID.
