Maylan, who suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), waits to go out with her nurse in Miami. SMA is a disease that robs people of physical strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, taking away the ability to walk, eat, or breathe. Maylan, however, will not allow her disability (or the Coronavirus pandemic) to prevent her from living as "normal" a life as she can.

See what a day in her life looks like here > bit.ly/livingwithsma

Get her prepped, get her ready, the show is about to begin. I hope she can walk with a metal brace, I hope she can perform with a spinal fixation.

Yet again, I am happy that Anthony didn't laugh at me when i asked him to spread flour on my back.

Securing metal hangers is a trick these days. So, the guys at my work helped me out. Thanks to Brian for bringing me hangers, to Jason for finding metal clippers, and to Ed for clipping them for me :)

I just want to respond to the question of "do you ever run out of ideas"....because YES, I do, on a daily basis. and to be honest, it panics me. and I kind of feel better saying that to everyone, because I kind of feel like a fraud in a way...I work really hard to come up with an idea that pleases me, and it doesn't always come easily.

The Millennium Bridge seen from one of the less seen angles from the north bank beach at shortly after low tide. The skeletal nature of the bridge reminded me of the human spine hence the puny pun.

The two lumps on the shore at the bottom left are the greylag geese couple seen later in this series, roosting.

More work photos. This is part of a 3D printed spine. Part of the video I am shooting/editing entails what goes into making a printed 3d model. Here, since we were running out of time, the tech is applying super duper glue, so we could take it with us to show our client. Usually, epoxy is applied, and it drys overnight.

A freezer ice tray (it plays tricks on your eyes).

Strobist info:

The ice tray was illuminated by two Nikon SB900 speedlights with snoots, placed 45-degrees CL and CR at camera level, 20-inches away from the subject. The CL speedlight had a pink Rogue gel attached and was fired in Manual mode @ 1⁄4 power. The CR speedlight had a purple Rogue gel attached and was fired in Manual mode @ 1⁄8 power.

Both speedlights were triggered by three PocketWizard Plus X's.

It's my birthday today, I kind of hate it, but I'll put up with it.

Thanks for all the support on my last picture, It made front page! I will probably put up a temporary non-commentable version of it today or tomorrow just to show you guys :D I know it's kind of annoying but it's soo exciting!

I wish my skin were smooth and flawless but I guess this picture kinda shows how my skin is, well kind of, you cant really tell because it's sort of grainy.

Hidden within the vegetation, this female Boat-tailed Grackle methodically tore off pieces of flesh as she hungrily consumed her meal. While her prey no longer resembled a frog, if you look closely the tiny discs of the frog's spinal cord are visible.

Stayed indoors yesterday the weather was rubbish so had another play in my photographic studio (the kitchen table lol).

Had some fun with peppers and a knife for some artisitic shots.

This one came out looking like a spinal cord, yuk!

This was lit by my nikon sb600 at 1/2 power and was positioned to my left via an off camera cable and the background was black velvet material held up by two stands.

Hope you like it :)

Thanks for all the amazing views and comments on my previous pictures.

While I was walking back to my car I passed a herd of resting mountain bikers. One, seeing my tripod, asked what I had been shooting. I hesitated a moment, considering the easiest way to say "I was taking a nude self-portrait portraying a flower emerging from my back showing a mixture of pain, release, and growth." After considering it a moment I just said "flowers."

From Spinal Tap:

Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?

Eleven on the guitar volume?
