A lineup of reclining chairs for tired shoppers to rest beside a juice bar at the Harbour Town shopping centre. From this side view, those blue bits look like a spinal vertebrae.
Multiple valleys come together in a tangle of rocky ridges sculpted by ice, water, and wind. The small vegetated plateau on the right was not glaciated during the Pleistocene, but shows subtle banding associated with freeze-thaw sorting of rocks by their size which occurred during the ice age. Note the vegetation has already taken on fall color- it's a short growing season above 12,000'.
Mystic Island Lake, shown in a recent post, is at the head of the valley on the right, with Eagle Peak the high point near the center of the frame. In the distance are a myriad of peaks in the southern Sawatch Range.
There is a lot less snow visible in this landscape than usual, even for this time of year. A low snow winter and warm summer melted many of the snowfields that often last year-round. Thankfully a wet summer from active monsoonal flow kept the fire danger low.

The Oculus in NYC, part of the World Trade Center Transportation Hub in Lower Manhattan. Designed by famed Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and located within walking distance of the World Trade Center, the $4 billion building is the most expensive train stop in the world.
Actually this this is the $3 million dollars sculpture "Seven Magic Mountains', by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone. Located on Las Vegas Boulevard, but about 15-20 miles south of the strip. For me it begs a performance of Stonehenge, the legendary song my the equally legendary, and punctual band Spinal Tap.
A quick sketch of a building in progress - I love how an ordinary mesh covering a construction site Frost Fence is enhanced with the architect's vision.
The sketch evokes a skeleton, a spine - but it also flows, floats upwards towards the sky, towards the other concrete peaks in my neighborhood.
Construction is proceeding briskly - whereas a few months ago this was just a hole in the ground, now there is a foundation of this striking building, and a few stories are already going up.
Not the shot I was expecting to get and not 100% sure on it. I quite like the subtle spinal look and the way sea shadow almost looks like a tail on the end of the "spine". I only had one chance at this shot due to the tide, I might have another go at this tomorrow if it's not raining as the tide should be a bit kinder.
Shot with d7100 and Tamron 28-75mm

I've been wanting to get some photos in London for years now, and I just haven't been able to get there. Finally, I had a whirlwind 2 day business trip there and managed to get a few hours to walk around the Thames waterfront and get some photos of the iconic Big Ben. There are two classic night shots of Big Ben from the Westminster bridge, one from across the road with the light streaks cutting across the frame and this one from the Big Ben side. The other shot is the more frequent comp, and I was going to try both but it was getting late and I was freezing cold by this time. It wasn't cold at all by London standard (24C during the day and 15C at night), but I've turned very thin-blooded in the southern US, and there was a breeze strong enough to add some windchill. All that to say I didn't get the other shot. And, there are many more shots I'd like to get in London, but didn't have time for this time. Hopefully I get the chance to return again soon.
This is not an especially difficult shot to get, just a matter of having some patience for the right combination of double-decker buses to come along, timing the shot right, and trying to balance the exposure correctly. Nothing to it, only took me about 30 tries ;-) Seriously, though, I enjoyed my night in London a lot.
As for the title, the time on the clock is 10:50, and this classic line from Spinal Tap immediately jumped in to my head (and would not leave). Well, the line is actually "These go to 11" but close enough. Could've called it "Hells Bells" too since as soon as I heard the bells chime on the hour, it sounded *exactly* like the opening refrain from the AC/DC song Hells Bells. I'm too lazy to look it up, but something tells me they used these bells (well, sampled of course, might've been hard to get the bells in to the recording studio).
EDIT: So I was partially right but partially wrong about the bells. The bells in the recording are not Big Ben's bells (snicker): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hells_Bells_(song), but Big Ben still plays a role in the song: answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071025073242AAimxna

Maylan, who suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), waits to go out with her nurse in Miami. SMA is a disease that robs people of physical strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, taking away the ability to walk, eat, or breathe. Maylan, however, will not allow her disability (or the Coronavirus pandemic) to prevent her from living as "normal" a life as she can.

Get her prepped, get her ready, the show is about to begin. I hope she can walk with a metal brace, I hope she can perform with a spinal fixation.
Yet again, I am happy that Anthony didn't laugh at me when i asked him to spread flour on my back.
Securing metal hangers is a trick these days. So, the guys at my work helped me out. Thanks to Brian for bringing me hangers, to Jason for finding metal clippers, and to Ed for clipping them for me :)
I just want to respond to the question of "do you ever run out of ideas"....because YES, I do, on a daily basis. and to be honest, it panics me. and I kind of feel better saying that to everyone, because I kind of feel like a fraud in a way...I work really hard to come up with an idea that pleases me, and it doesn't always come easily.
