Le sphinx de Gizeh est la statue qui se dresse devant les grandes pyramides du plateau de Gizeh, plateau qui se trouve juste en amont du delta du Nil, dans la Basse-Égypte. Il est aussi surnommé par les Arabes Abou al-Hôl (« père de la terreur »).

The Great Sphinx of Giza is a statue of a reclining lion with a human head that stands on the Giza Plateau in Giza on the west bank of the Nile, near modern-day Cairo, in Egypt. It is the largest monolith statue in the world, standing 73.5 metres (241 ft) long, 6 metres (20 ft) wide, and 20.22 m (66.34 ft) high.It is the oldest known monumental sculpture, and is commonly believed to have been built by ancient Egyptians of Old Kingdom in 2555 BC to 2532 BC.

This statue of a Sphinx was created around 1800 and is made from Coade stone invented by Eleanor Coade.

The Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas has an Egyptian theme, from its pyramid shape to the reproduction of the Great Sphinx of Giza, which is 110 feet tall and is located in front of the pyramid. A monorail that travels along the Vegas Strip passes in front of the sculpture and is partly visible behind the foliage.
