Had the chance to spend a few days in London last spring while J was there for work.

If there's anything better than wandering through London for a day with a camera and a few dollars/pounds in your pocket, I don't know what it is.

Tried to add some grain to this shot with Silver eFex. I love the combo of the ancient sphinxy-ness with the Victorian (I think) serpent light poles with the surreally large London merry-go-up-and-down with the way cool, way delicate bridge supports.

In other words, I love London and the way so much comes together there at the same time.

This Sphinx Moth was sucking the nectar out of one of my Fragrant Evening Primroses(Oenothera fragrans) in my flower garden. This is what all the beauty and fragrance of flowers is all about, seducing a pollenator to stop by, get a little nectar, and unknowingly pollinate them. Flower sex in action.

Of the luxurious Siphnian treasury, another rich island of the Cyclades, Naxos, sends a grandiose offering to Apollo of Delphi: the statue of the mythical Sphinx. It was seated on the capital of a very tall Ionic column, regarded as the oldest element in the Ionic order at Delphi.

Sphinx helped me clear out the Hermit crab tank of the bristle worm invasion today, he was very helpful and sat in the sink after, like you do !

The Great Sphinx of Giza is a statue of a reclining lion with a human head that stands on the Giza Plateau in Giza on the west bank of the Nile, near modern-day Cairo, in Egypt. It is the largest monolith statue in the world.

Lichfield is our best known three-spired cathedral, and one I have visited many times over the years (both for business and pleasure).

The cathedral suffered more than most during the Civil War when the Close was besieged (twice) and the central spire shot down (the aftermath of which is memorably conjured in one of Kempe's windows). As a result of this (and the soft red sandstone) the cathedral has been heavily restored and nearly all the furnishings are Victorian, but there are some notable tombs and monuments, and every time I come here I seem to notice more medieval survivals of some kind in various corners.

This was my first visit since the Lady Chapel's vast swathes of Flemish glass was spirited up to York for restoration, and it'll be a couple more years before it returns. Meanwhile this normally rather dark interior has brightened up with clear glazing, suggesting the kind of atmosphere the cathedral must have had in pre-Victorian days when there was virtually no stained glass.
