Spc. Parker Smith, Barracks Manager of 2nd Brigade, 10th Brigade Support Battalion, Bravo Company, has a passion for improving the lives of those around him. Here at Fort Drum, that passion manifests in making his barracks feel like a home for the Soldiers that live there. “I joined the military to help people, to be part of a team,” Parker said. All the improvements were self-funded by Smith and his command team. “Having to spend a couple dollars here and there is no big deal because you're going to see people utilize it, which makes you feel good,” he said. “Make your barracks look like a home. Don't let them look like just another building that doesn't matter, because they do matter. Soldiers live here.”

Raptor Soldier Spotlight: Spc. Zachary Burge is an Armament/Electrical/Avionics System Repairer assigned to Task Force Tigershark, 16th Combat Aviation Brigade, 7th Infantry Division. He hails from Leavenworth, Kansas, and is a graduate of Lansing High School. Burge's goals include finishing his undergraduate degree and possibly becoming a pilot.
Spc. Burge would like to say, "Hi from Afghanistan to my lovely wife and son Tyler. I miss you guys and love you."

Spc. The week-long competition brought 28 Soldiers and non-commissioned officers from Guam to New Hampshire to Fort McCoy to determine the best of the Army Reserve. John Dehnke, a former Wisconsin Army National Guard recruiter, shares a story about Spc. Charles Kaufman during a June 18 remembrance ceremony at Constitution Park in Fort McCoy, Wis. Kaufman, a member of Detachment 1, Company C, 1st Battalion, 128th Infantry was killed June 26, 2005 by a roadside bomb in Baghdad, Iraq. Spc. Patrick Hartley, a combat medic and University of Central Florida student, applies a training tourniquet on his patient while practicing the skills he learned during the Combat Lifesaver Course. Hartley is a member of the Army Reserve’s 7222nd Medical Support Unit, located in Tampa, and participated in the unit’s recent mass casualty exercise during weekend training.
