Spotted this young sparrow (song?) at Fernhill, posing nicely, although it could've at least shed the debris for the shot!

..at a quiet moment...

The white-crowned sparrow (Zonotrichia leucophrys) is a species of passerine bird native to North America. A medium-sized member of the American sparrow family, this species is marked by a grey face and black and white streaking on the upper head. It breeds in brushy areas in the taiga and tundra of the northernmost parts of the continent and in the Rocky Mountains and Pacific coast. While southerly populations in the Rocky Mountains and coast are largely resident, the breeding populations of the northerly part of its range are migratory and can be found as wintering or passage visitors through most of North America south to central Mexico. The scientific name is from Ancient Greek. The genus name Zonotrichia is from zone, "band", and thrix, trikhos, "hair", and the species name leucophrys is from leukos, "white", and ophrus, "eyebrow

This Golden-Crowned Sparrow was one among a fairly good sized group of house finches and a few juncos. Always happy to see these little ones, too!

The White-throated Sparrows were busy feeding on the seeds of these grassy plants. Often too slim to hold their weight, the Sparrows flitted about trying to find a perch to support them as they fed on these plants.

A juvenile House Sparrow coming down for a drink in my water trough. I had to smile at it’s comical pose and spindly legs!

Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fave my images.

Attwater NWR, Texas-1782

I always now when winter has arrived in Texas, it’s when I see these cool little sparrows. I visited Attwater NWR yesterday morning and with the help of the early morning light, I got the shot of this Le Conte’s Sparrow.

..just chilling...

A wee female House Sparrow on Aultbea shore.

I did in fact get shots of other birds while waiting for action from the owls over the weekend. This sparrow was particularly cooperative. It didn't seem overly windy, but apparently there was enough of a breeze to give him a crest. Lincoln County, Missouri

These sparrows are winter residents in Missouri, and can be found in large numbers at regional wetlands around St Louis. They like to keep a low profile when possible, but will frequently pop up among the brown reeds. Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary, West Alton, Missouri
