This bridge, the Hunsecker's Mill Covered Bridge, is the longest single span covered bridge in Lancaster County, PA. There are 29 covered bridges in the county, the most of any county in the state. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunsecker%27s_Mill_Covered_Bridge I did visit two more covered bridges that morning, but I wasn't happy with the images I took there. Here are the two other bridges I saw: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bucher%27s_Mill_Covered_Bridge and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitzer%27s_Mill_Covered_Bridge .

The iconic Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, as seen from Alcatraz.
"The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the one-mile-wide (1.6 km) strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The structure links the U.S. city of San Francisco, California—the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula—to Marin County, carrying both U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 1 across the strait. It also carries pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and is designated as part of U.S. Bicycle Route 95. Recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of the Wonders of the Modern World, the bridge is one of the most internationally recognized symbols of San Francisco and California.
The idea of a fixed link between San Francisco and Marin had gained increasing popularity during the late 19th century, but it was not until the early 20th century that such a link became feasible. Joseph Strauss served as chief engineer for the project, with Leon Moisseiff, Irving Morrow and Charles Ellis making significant contributions to its design. The bridge opened to the public in 1937 and has undergone various retrofits and other improvement projects in the decades since.
The Golden Gate Bridge is described in Frommer's travel guide as "possibly the most beautiful, certainly the most photographed, bridge in the world." At the time of its opening in 1937, it was both the longest and the tallest suspension bridge in the world, titles it held until 1964 and 1998 respectively. Its main span is 1,280m and total height is 227m."

I did think there would be a better sunrise than was presented with my hopes being raised when the sun slowly appeared behind me and parts of the sky were tinged with pink. Sadly this came to nothing.

A view of the iconic lighthouse there in Maine ... with a really cool rainbow that formed near sunset with the passing front. Needless to say I was rushing around like a nut case taking snaps :)
My wife is also in the frame ... :)
This picture was taken from beneath the Blue Water Bridge(-s). It clearly shows that their construction is of two styles, but observed from either side they appear to be one bridge. Likewise, when traveling from the US to Canada, as shown in this picture, we would take the Blue Water Bridge. Conversely, when returning to the US from Canada, we would take the Blue Water Bridge. So 1 bridge span + 1 other bridge span = (2 sections of) one Blue Water Bridge.
Both bridges are now one-way traffic. The original 1938 bridge has three westbound lanes from Point Edward, Ontario, Canada to Port Huron, Michigan, USA; the later 1997 bridge has three eastbound lanes from Port Huron to Point Edward.
Here is a capture of the rainbow at Pemaquid where I could get it spanning over the lighthouse. Amazing to see at that venue and right before sunset.

"A goldfish has a ten second memory span by scientists we are told
And their span of time seems to be brief they soon grow weak and old
But how can even the most intelligent human being know what goes on in a fish's brain
As the ways of Nature it would seem beyond us to explain."

Welsh St Valentine's Day
Today is Santes (St) Dwynwen's Day, which is the Welsh equivalent of St Valentine's Day.
The story as it is today is that Dwynwen fell in love with Deelon Dafodrill and, because her father the king had promised her elsewhere, she prayed for a cure for her love. Allegedly an angel grants her a potion which turns Meelon to ice (poor chap) and in return for his release, she is to remain unmarried and that through her, God becomes a refuge for all true lovers.
She then retreats to the little island of Llanddwyn where she becomes a herbalist and healer she dies circa AD460 and later becomes a patron saint of sick animals as well, and her early 'church' and well became a site of pilgrimage.
If we read between the lines she clearly was a skilled natural herbalist and healer whose services and potions (including love potions most likely) were well sought, and after her death, the well from which she drew her water was imbued with magical properties as the herb dispenser was no longer living. It is unlikely that in the early 5th centurey the term 'angel' would have been common place or even known as Christianity would have been in its absolute infancy in these islands in in those days, having not that long previously been officially adopted by the Roman Empire, and all Bible's were in Latin, only recently produced and rarely available to the public who spoke not Latin. It is of little doubt at that time traditional nature deities would still have been the order of the day.
This is further evidenced by the fact that under the reformation of Henry VIII her veneration and site of pilgrimage became a practice to be suppressed and she is not mentioned in Anglican or Catholic records as a saint.
She is however, recognised in the Eastern Orthodox Liturgics.
Japanese red maple leaves on snow, caught in the fleeting late afternoon light at Lake Tahoe. Not very deep, but very welcome, and more is forecast Sunday and Monday. :-)))
Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for all of your kind comments. They are all important to me.
