Inspired by artist Frida Kahlo, these Sandburg Elementary 4K students created their own self portraits. Sandburg students met with educator Barb Alvarado over a series of classroom visits in November and December of 2017, culminating in a Frieda Fiesta event at the Hawthorne Library in January of 2018.

 

This visit was part of the library's Language Liaison program, connecting young children and their families and caregivers to library resources for early learning in Spanish and Hmong. The Language Liaison program is partially funded by a grant from the Madison Public Library Foundation.

We found the play very moving, and the end left us with tears in our eyes. However, we had a great time and wiped away the tears with a glass or two of wine in the Casco Viejo after the play.

 

La obra nos pareció conmovedora, tanto que incluso algunos echaron alguna que otra lagrimita al final. La verdad es que fue una oportunidad interesante de compartir la tarde con nuestros compañeros y de practicar un poco español en contexto auténtico. Nos divertimos mucho y nos quitamos la pena con una copita de vino en el Casco Viejo después de terminar la obra.

Nuestros estudiantes de español disfrutan de los sabrosos churros con chocolate.

Hacía tiempo malísimo un día en julio, pues entonces todos los estudiantes fueron a tomar chocolate con churros para calentarse!

 

There was a brif spell of bad weather during July, so some students went for chocolate con churros (warm doughnuts) to warm themselves up!
