The fiery glow from the liftoff of space shuttle Endeavour on the STS-126 mission fills the Launch Pad 39A and water nearby at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Liftoff was on time at 7:55 p.m. EST. STS-126 was the 124th space shuttle flight and the 27th flight to the International Space Station.

A large group of Astronauts from the Shuttle and Apollo projects wave to crowds as the Space shuttle Atlantis makes its trip to its new home at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, early Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, in Cape Canaveral, Fla. The spacecraft traveled 125,935,769 miles during 33 spaceflights, including 12 missions to the International Space Station. Just fiddling around with the rudimentary Windows 11 photo editing capability & my equally rudimentary 'skill' using it.
Michoud's building 451 was NASA's high pressure test building for Liquid Hydrogen (LH2) tanks on the Space Shuttle External Tank program. During Hurricane Katrina in 2005, building 451 suffered a major roof collapse. Today the building has been expanded and modified to test the SLS Core Stage LH2 tanks, it is currently undergoing evaluation.

Space Shuttle Columbia being ferried back to Kennedy Space Center on 2001-Mar-5. This was as it passed over Tallahasee FL after Columbia was refurbished in California. Unfortunately, Columbia disintegrated during re-entry less than 2 years later. These photos were shot with hand held 500mm lens, hence the motion blur.

Note the lack of OMS pods and the wing-tip mounted reaction control system thrusters. Apparently, this is design “MSC 040C”. Who knew??? Did you?? I didn’t!
On the verso, somebody forgot, didn’t know how to, or didn’t give a damn about changing the typeset or whatever it is. While light & faded, "NASA/APOLLO" can easily be made out. Par for the course.
Based on another work from this 'series', I believe this to be the work of Norman Tiller.
While the horizon would appear to maybe suggest Edwards Air Force Base, I don't believe there was/is a Runway 10 there. I may be wrong, but I haven't come across anything to the contrary.

In the Heroes and Legends exhibit at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida, a memorial wreath was placed following a ceremony honoring the memory of former astronaut Owen Garriott. The ceremony was held April 18, 2019. Garriott flew aboard the Skylab space station during the Skylab 3 mission and also on space shuttle Columbia for the STS-9/Spacelab-1 mission. Published in 1971, before Apollo had flown its final missions, by Golden Gate Junior Books of San Carlos, California. Written by Don Dwiggins and illustrated with art from assorted aerospace contractors who were bidding to build the next generation American spacecraft. This is why the configuration of the vehicles and the style of the illustrations changes from page to page. The artists are not credited, just the firms they worked for.
A nostalgic look back, at the Space Shuttle and Space Station that we could have had, but for the bean-counters and internationalists in DC.
