I was on a recruiting trip to Dartmouth staying at this hotel right off campus. The bathroom had this small light on the wall, a night light really and I thought it might make an interesting light source. I took a friend's G10 on the trip with me. Terrible low light performance but photoshop helped fix some of that.

This is a slide from the talk we gave at Open Source Bridge in Portland in June, 2011. In this talk we take a practical look at the design process and techniques everyone should know.
How many product ideas never make it to market? Some failure is OK, but why does it happen so often? We don’t believe it’s because of bad ideas. We believe that teams are missing a holistic approach to design for people, inside and outside the organization.

The original 1920s/30s Turbine hall, before it was joined by it`s twin in the 50s. The interior (what remains) is much more ornate. I hope that my film photos of this are better than this blurred effort....

Open Source Summit is the leading conference for developers, architects and other technologists – as well as open source community and industry leaders – to collaborate, share information, learn about the latest technologies and gain a competitive advantage by using innovative open solutions.
Open Source Summit connects the open source ecosystem under one roof. It covers cornerstone open source technologies; helps ecosystem leaders to navigate open source transformation with the Diversity Empowerment Summit and tracks on business and compliance; and delves into the newest technologies and latest trends touching open source, including networking, cloud-native, edge computing, AI and much more. It is an extraordinary opportunity for cross-pollination between the developers, sysadmins, DevOps professionals and IT architects driving the future of technology.

This is the rotor from inside one of the massive generators in the power station in the Hoover Dam, out for maintenance after 25 years of service. Permanent magnets around the edge induce a current in copper coils in the stationary body of the generator as they spin past them.
It's a massive piece, the ladder on the right gives some scale. The rotor and the turbine below it together weigh a million and a half pounds. It's incredible to think that this could be turned at all, even more incredible that the waters of the Colorado River could contain such an amount of power.
