Green Source Homes assisted the Boys & Girls Clubs of Athens with a painting project in the historic Athens High and Industrial School, later renamed Burney Harris High School, which were Athens’ high schools for black students in the days before desegregation. Their school building, completely renovated in 2011, is now part of the Clarke County School District’s H.T. Edwards Complex. The gym is now a branch of the Athens Boys & Girls Club, and youngsters still gather there to play basketball. Hence their need for us! The far wall in the gym had become pretty battered from youngsters dreaming of becoming the next Michael Jordan.
