Léger, doux et planant sont trois adjectifs qui décrivent avec perfection l’univers de Napkey. Ce duo défend une musique électronique mélodieuse à l’opposé de celle qu’on entend partout. A RAJE, son morceau Last Thoughts a particulièrement retenu notre attention.
Napkey était au départ le projet de Benjamin Cholet qui est un véritable amoureux de musique surtout celle des années 80. « J’ai commencé à composer il y a trois ans puis j’ai montré mon travail sur Internet. Je n’avais pas du tout en tête l’idée de faire du live. C’était juste un hobbie. Au bout d’un moment, j’ai commencé à avoir un bon retour du public. J’ai essayé de faire deux trois dj-sets mais cela n’a pas pas du tout plu. » expliquait le producteur au micro de Fabrice Lamy. Le souhait de Benjamin ? Rendre sa musique humaine, une des raisons pour laquelle il a invité Justine Rousseau à rejoindre son projet. « Elle m’a beaucoup aidé dans la composition de 42. Je me suis dit que ce serait pas mal qu’elle prenne part au projet Napkey en tant que tout, pas seulement en studio mais aussi en live. Avant ce n’était pas très clair mais aujourd’hui nous sommes deux en studio et en live. On fait tout ensemble ! » ajoute-t-il.
L’univers de Napkey est aussi un bon mélange des influences des deux membres de la formation. Justine, elle, aime le rock et le jazz. Benjamin, lui, ne jure que par les années 80 et notamment le groupe Dire Straits. « Je le revendique… C’est grâce à eux que j’ai commencé la guitare. C’est en écoutant Sultan of Swing et Lady Writer que je me suis dit que c’était absolument l’instrument que je devais jouer. Ça reste une influence dans mon jeu et ma composition » nous a confié la moitié du duo.
La fusion des talents de Benjamin et Justine semble avoir porté ses fruits puisque 42 est une réussite. Ce premier album, sorti début janvier, est aérien et d’une finesse incroyable. Au réveil comme au coucher, en soirée ou tranquillement posé, la musique de Napkey sera vous charmer.
Artiste autodidacte, guitariste, pianiste et compositeur, NAPKEY entrera en scène pour nous faire voyager à travers ses mélodies aériennes. Soyez au rendez-vous !

"This shows some of the traditional french folk music and dancing from an annual festival in Nice, France ,which represents a celebration of springtime with the colours and the abundance of mother nature. It has been a regular event since the 1960s but it's origins go back to when Nice was part of Italy and was called Nissa (pronounced Nizza) until it became part of modern France in 1860. It was shot with a Sony CX550VE camcorder and i apologise for some unedited jumps. In those spots i was trying to avoid restless people blocking the lens and i preferred not to edit them so as to keep the flow of music and dance."

About a year ago, I embarked on the release of my first full-length album #RAQUEL R3: Lo@Ded (The Devolution and Death of the Modern Male). The album, the first of a three-part trilogy called the "Songs For Trilogy," dealt with the demise and disintegration of my relationship with my, at the time, fiancee and my "devolution" as a man (i.e, going out, drinking, calling the mother of my child foul names, emotional cheating, etc.). By the end of the album, I decided to end that side of me.
I killed my "self," to, on the upcoming Songs For (which drops 8/17/13), try to rebuild myself.
Since the release of that first no-fi album, I started to go back and tinker with it. Why? Well, as much as I loved it, I feel that it was bloated. Too much focus was placed on somewhat non-factors (ex. "Heartbreaker," a song that has since been removed from all pressings of #RR, goes on for four minutes about a young woman who I, in some ways, emotionally cheated with and places a majority of the blame on her for my issues). There were several filler songs that have no real place on the album. All in all, it was a choppy album with good intentions. So, today, I'm rereleasing it as a free mixtape, both as a way to introduce those that have heard "Kings" and other "Songs For" songs and wonder where Part One of the trilogy is and as a way to amend the story to make it more coherent.
One Year Later also presents a few songs in the way that they were originally meant to be. For instance, the track "I Wonder," which appeared on the original #RR as "What If?," appears here with a flip I crafted while messing around with the Bossman/Raheem DeVaughn K-Swift tribute "I Wonder." And, to be honest, it fits infinitely better than the #RR version of beat. Another similar situation befalls the penultimate track on this tape, "Ultimo Cena de Volo (The Last Supper of Speed." On the original version of #RR, I tacked on a somewhat unneeded Scarface sample. Here, I remove that sample and just end the song where it should.
