Corporal Tom Finnerty has been a K9 handler for 11 years. His current partner is K9 "Isy," a German Shepherd who is specially trained in explosives detection.
"My current partner now is Isy, she's 4, she'll turn 5 in August. She's a little, small, sixty-six pound female German Shepherd. She came from Germany. She has a great little attitude and a great nose for looking for the explosives that we need to find.
My dogs have always been a little bit more than your standard explosives dogs. An explosive dog only really needs to know nine different odors of explosives and out of those nine, it makes up the majority of the odors of other types of explosives. Since I started my career right after September 11 and everything, and the Iraq War started, stuff that they found that the terrorists were using there for IEDs, the FBI would try to get me samples of it and I would train my dogs on those new types of explosives that they were using over there in case we started seeing that type of explosive being used over here in the States. So, out of the standard nine that the dogs need to know, my dogs know 18 different odors.
A lot of my calls are actually for what we call mutual aid for outside agencies. Because of my previous other two dogs that I've worked before Isy, my dogs have had a real good reputation. We do a lot of work for the Secret Service, FBI and the State Department. We do a lot of high profile dignitary protection from the President of the United States on down. Just about everybody in Washington we've pretty much done bomb sweeps for when they come out to California.
Our first bomb call was... we were still in bomb school, but we had actually already graduated. We had a couple days of actual school left when we had a phone-in threat of a potential explosive device on campus. They called me in and she was ready to go and we did sweeps around the campus and stuff and she did a great job. Since then she actually has two finds in her career right now in the short amount of time we've been together. That's just outstanding. There are a lot of bomb teams that don't get any finds in their whole career, so for her to have two right off the bat is outstanding. It wasn't for the campus, it was for outside agencies.
Working with a dog as a partner is, for me, the best job. To be able to have a dog at work with you is just, I mean, I couldn't imagine anything better. Like I said, this is my third dog and I've been working dogs for 11 years, going on 12, and it's... they talk back every once in a while like a regular partner would do, but for the most part, it's just a joy having them. Statistics have shown that people who work with dogs or have been able to bring dogs to work - it's a calming effect - and it's a healthier effect for the person, so I'm hoping that will help with my longevity with the police department."

Léger, doux et planant sont trois adjectifs qui décrivent avec perfection l’univers de Napkey. Ce duo défend une musique électronique mélodieuse à l’opposé de celle qu’on entend partout. A RAJE, son morceau Last Thoughts a particulièrement retenu notre attention.
Napkey était au départ le projet de Benjamin Cholet qui est un véritable amoureux de musique surtout celle des années 80. « J’ai commencé à composer il y a trois ans puis j’ai montré mon travail sur Internet. Je n’avais pas du tout en tête l’idée de faire du live. C’était juste un hobbie. Au bout d’un moment, j’ai commencé à avoir un bon retour du public. J’ai essayé de faire deux trois dj-sets mais cela n’a pas pas du tout plu. » expliquait le producteur au micro de Fabrice Lamy. Le souhait de Benjamin ? Rendre sa musique humaine, une des raisons pour laquelle il a invité Justine Rousseau à rejoindre son projet. « Elle m’a beaucoup aidé dans la composition de 42. Je me suis dit que ce serait pas mal qu’elle prenne part au projet Napkey en tant que tout, pas seulement en studio mais aussi en live. Avant ce n’était pas très clair mais aujourd’hui nous sommes deux en studio et en live. On fait tout ensemble ! » ajoute-t-il.
L’univers de Napkey est aussi un bon mélange des influences des deux membres de la formation. Justine, elle, aime le rock et le jazz. Benjamin, lui, ne jure que par les années 80 et notamment le groupe Dire Straits. « Je le revendique… C’est grâce à eux que j’ai commencé la guitare. C’est en écoutant Sultan of Swing et Lady Writer que je me suis dit que c’était absolument l’instrument que je devais jouer. Ça reste une influence dans mon jeu et ma composition » nous a confié la moitié du duo.
La fusion des talents de Benjamin et Justine semble avoir porté ses fruits puisque 42 est une réussite. Ce premier album, sorti début janvier, est aérien et d’une finesse incroyable. Au réveil comme au coucher, en soirée ou tranquillement posé, la musique de Napkey sera vous charmer.
