Chaudière Falls, Ottawa - Mìwàte sound-and-light show – In the Algonquin language, Mìwàte means 'dazzled by a light or fire. This show is designed as a tribute to Indigenous people and was created in collaboration with the Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn First Nation (although there is some controversy regarding the use of this sacred site for this purpose). The lights illuminating the falls were accompanied by a 'soundscape' which included drumming, melodic chanting and whispers of Aboriginal youth reciting in Anishinaabe, the language of the Algonquin people.

I wasn't going to show this video, because it makes my photos look pretty pathetic (I will do better next year!), but it does need to be brought to life, so here it is : vimeo.com/377561166

Imagine yourself in a very large room with colorful, changing images flowing around. The music? The Beatles!

So... I don't know if you'll have read to the bit at the bottom of the Wikipedia page about a Sound and Light show that is done occasionally, but it turned out there was one on the night I was there. So I stood at a distance and watched it. I did not understand what any of it was trying to show. But it was pretty...

Never uploaded a film clip before. This is from my Canon G9 as shot.

Every once in a while the three spots behind the guitarist would blast the singer at centre stage, totally enveloping him like a cocoon. I waited for one such light blast and got lucky the first time. This was shot during the Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival 2010 that was held over two days, 18 & 19 June.
