I have come to
This place by choice
Of someone else
Why would they
Choose this for me
Bore a hole
And shove me in
Take my wings
Cut ties to my dreams
Turn of all light
And fill the box with
Screams
Soon I became
So close to nothing
That I had almost
Lost myself completely
Until I realized
They left behind
One thing
That lies very deep
Within me
I even had a difficult
Time finding it
But luckily
It was also
Looking for me
This little light
Of thought
Was first just a flicker
Then with every bit
Of hope I could feed it
It grew
Into a flame
So large
I could no longer
Contain it
It ended up
Filling the box
Calming the screams
And helped build up
The once destroyed dreams
So see
A new world
A different reality
Is just one positive
Thought away
So link a few
Together
And you'll soon have
Your freedom
Forever
A store owner was tacking a sign above his door that read "Puppies For Sale."
Signs like that have a way of attracting small children,
and sure enough, a little boy appeared under the store owner's sign.
"How much are you going to sell the puppies for?" he asked.
The store owner replied, "Anywhere from $30 to $50."
The little boy reached in his pocket and
pulled out some change. "I have $2.37," he said.
"Can I please look at them?"
The store owner smiled and whistled and
out of the kennel came "Lady", who ran down
the aisle of his store followed by five teeny,
tiny balls of fur.
One puppy was lagging considerably behind.
Immediately the little boy singled out the lagging,
limping puppy and said, "What's wrong with that little dog?"
The store owner explained that the veterinarian
had examined the little puppy and discovered it didn't have a hip socket.
It would always limp and always be lame.
The little boy became excited. "That is the puppy
that I want to buy."
The store owner said, "No, you don't want to
buy that little dog. If you really want him,
I'll just give him to you."
The little boy got quite upset. He looked straight
into the store owner's eyes, pointing his finger,
and said, "I don't want you to give him to me.
That little dog is worth every bit as much as
all the other dogs and I'll pay full price.
In fact, I'll give you $2.37 now, and 50 cents
a month until I have him paid for."
The store owner countered, "You really don't want
to buy this little dog. He is never going to be able
to run, jump and play with you like the other puppies."
To his surprise, the little boy reached down
and rolled up his pant leg to reveal a badly twisted,
crippled left leg supported by a big metal brace.
He looked up at the store owner and softly replied,
"Well, I don't run so well myself and the little
puppy will need someone who understands!"
We ALL need someone who understands!
Take a route you're familiar with but have never photographed along and photograph someone or something every 100 or so steps.

Happy Holidays! (Okay, okay, it's still not my house, but I didn't have any wrought iron gates to hang wreaths on and so I thought I would just take advantage of someone else's decorations.) This is the historic Swan House, part of the Atlanta History Center, powdered with a light sprinkling of southern snow.
Someone is hoping just that this will be the day.
explore.
You don't have to like this. I'm just so tired from my awesome day today. We had a half day and I went out to lunch with a bunch of friends, and then we ventured around for awhile, went to my sister's field hockey game and now I feel dead. I have a full day tomorrow.. :/

In the collection of the Finnish Appelo Archives Center in Naselle, Washington.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Appelo Archives Center was opened under the Wahkiakum Community Foundation in 2005. It became its own 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization in April 2010. The dream of founder Carlton Appelo, the Appelo Archives Center was opened as a place to share the rich history of the Naselle-Grays River Valley [of southwest Washington] and its surrounding areas.
The Appelo Archives Center is dedicated to encouraging the study of region-wide history by preserving collections, sponsoring community and educational activities, facilitating genealogical research, and fostering Scandinavian studies, with an emphasis on Finnish-American heritage.
MUSEUM
The Archives Center's main room upstairs houses our local museum and research area for the communities from Grays River through Naselle. We've also got a genealogy corner where you can relax and look up your family history or browse census records from years past.
Downstairs you enter the Museum through either the Archives Cafe and Bookstore or through the front door into our Logging Heritage Room. There is a chair lift available that allows handicap access to the upstairs and the rest of the museum and libraries
C.A. & AGNES APPELO MEMORIAL LIBRARY
The Library has a collection of over 400 books to be used for research and browsing. The book collection is located in the newly renovated library area The library is named for C.A. and Agnes Appelo who operated stores in several locations for decades. C.A. and his son, Carlton, were instrumental in bringing telephone service to the area and the founders of Wahkiakum West Telco, the local telephone company. Agnes worked in the stores and regularly traveled the logging trains to sell goods to the women in the camps.
Her son, Carlton, has also collected books on history for a good part of his 90 years. The library books are available for research on local and national history to our members. A full section with Finnish language books is also available in our Finnish Library.
FINNISH LIBRARY
Catering to the local Finnish and Scandinavian heritage our Finnish Library contains over 600 books, including the Socialist "Red Books". Many books are in English as well as Finnish, and contain political history, music, arts, local history and children's stories and much more. We've also got a display case that houses our Finnish costumes including the Expatriot Costume, designed by local ladies, that represents Finnish Immigrants and their descendants worldwide.

"Every little girl should be someone's Princess."
Most of my contacts know that Clara and I helped raise my granddaughter Becca. When she about six years old, I was reprimanding her for something or other, can't even remember what now. Becca turned to me, put her hands on her hips and said "Papa, you can't yell at me. I'm your Princess!"
You know something, she was right!
p.s. Can you tell I'm falling in love with natural light?
p.p.s. This is KC, my other granddaughter. She recently had a princess-themed second birthday party.

My dear friend Sammy was in need of photo therapy for herself and her visiting friend Trinity. Trinity had never shot before and Sammy wanted me to shoot the two of them. Sounds good to me. We met at a local old fashioned car wash and borrowed a classic car and then had a blast. The ladies had never seen a car wash like this and they were clueless what to do. They ended up spraying each other a few times but eventually they actually washed the car, had some fun, and we got some lovely photos out of the event.
I took these photos in June 2023 in Star, Idaho.
