Youth4Climate: Sparking Solutions took place in Rome, Italy from October 17-19, 2023.
Led by the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security and UNDP in strategic partnership with Connect4Climate, this third edition of the Youth4Climate global initiative convened young climate champions from around the world to present their solutions for a climate resilient future.

The solution came in the form of Gorm shelves from IKEA, which are easy to shorten.
Here's the end of one of the shelves, clamped into my workbench. You can see that the shelves are just 3 slats of pine board (or 5 slats for the deeper shelves) nailed onto an end piece. The end piece is drilled with holes at its ends, to allow assembly of the shelves.
I measured the shelf compared to the space I had, and here you can see I've already marked off how much I needed to shorten the shelf.

हर समस्या का निवारण करते हैं सूर्यदेव
वेदों के अनुसार सूर्यदेव प्रत्येक समस्या के निवारण में सबसे अधिक सहायक हैं। किसी को अगर कोई परेशानी होती है तो उसे दूर करने के लिए ज्योतिष भी सूर्य भगवान की पूजा अथवा प्रात: काल में सूर्य को जल देने को सर्वाधिक उत्तम बताते हैं।
इसके बहुत से वैज्ञानिक कारण भी हैं लेकिन वेदों के अनुसार माना जाता है कि सूर्यदेव के छह पुत्र और तीन पुत्रियां हैं। माना जाता है कि सूर्यदेव की पूजा के साथ ही ये सभी देव भी स्वयं प्रसन्न हो जाते हैं, जिसके चलते मनुष्य की हर समस्या का तुरंत निवारण हो जाता है।
सूर्यदेव के पुत्र और इनके कर्म
1. वैवस्वत मनु : ये श्राद्ध देव हैं। ये पितृ लोक के अधिपति हैं। ये ही पितृों को तृप्त करते हैं। इन्हीं ने भूलोक पर सृजन का कार्य किया था।
2. यम धर्मराज : आमतौर पर लोग इन्हें सिर्फ यमराज के नाम से ही जानते हैं पर ये समस्त देवताओं के मध्य यम धर्मराज के नाम से पुकारें जाते हैं। इन्हें मृत्यु का देवता भी कहा जाता हैं। जीवन और मृत्यु इन्हीं के नियंत्रण में हैं। ये काल रूप माने जाते हैं।
3. शनि देव : ये न्याय प्रिय हैं स्वभाव से, ये कभी किसी के साथ अन्याय नहीं होने देते हैं और इसीलिए इन्हें दंडाधिकारी भी कहा जाता है। ये भगवान सूर्य की दूसरी पत्नी छाया से उत्पन्न हुए थे।
4. भाग्य देव : इनकी पितृभक्ति से प्रसन्न हो कर भगवान सूर्य नारायण ने इन्हें वरदान दिया कि ये जिससे चाहे कुछ भी ले सकते हैं और जिनको चाहे कुछ भी दे सकते हैं। ये भगवान सूर्य की पहली पत्नी संज्ञा से उत्पन्न हुए थे।
5. अश्विनी कुमार : ये देवताओं के वैद्य हैं। इनके पास शरीर से जुडी हर समस्या का समाधान है। ये भी भगवान सूर्य की पहली पत्नी संज्ञा से उत्पन्न हुए थे।
6. सावर्णि मनु : ये भगवान सूर्य की पत्नी छाया के गर्भ से उत्पन्न हुए थे और चौदह मन्वन्तर में से एक हुए।
सूर्यदेव की तीन पुत्रियां
1. यमुना देवी : यह नदी शांत नदी है। इस नदी का वेग भी सामान्य है। इस नदी में स्नान करने से यम की प्रताड़ना से मुक्ति मिलती हैं।
2. तापती देवी : यह नदी यमुना देवी से स्वभाव में विपरीत है। इस नदी का वेग तीव्र है और स्वभाव से प्रचंड है। इस नदी में स्नान करने से पितृगड़ तृप्त होते हैं और शनि के साड़े साती से निजात मिलती हैं। और दोनों ही मोक्षदायनी नदी है।
3. भद्रा : शनि की तरह ही इसका स्वभाव भी क्रूर बताया गया है। इस उग्र स्वभाव को नियंत्रित करने के लिए ही भगवान ब्रह्मा ने उसे कालगणना या पंचाग के एक प्रमुख अंग करण में स्थान दिया। जहां उसका नाम विष्टी करण रखा गया। भद्रा की स्थिति में कुछ शुभ कार्यों, यात्रा और उत्पादन आदि कार्यों को निषेध माना गया। किंतु भद्रा काल में तंत्र कार्य, अदालती और राजनैतिक चुनाव कार्य सुफल देने वाले माने गए हैं। भद्रा देवी श्यामवर्णी हैं जिनके केश सदैव ही खुले रहते हैं नयन ताम्रवर्ण के शरीर पर मुण्ड की माला धारण किए रहती हैं।

On day three of the Solidarity to Solutions Week countering the upcoming Global Action Climate Summit, frontline leaders hosted a rally and delivered an open letter rejecting the Governor’s Climate and Forest Task Force and demanding its cancellation.

Advocates blocked the entrance to Gov. Brown’s Climate and Forest Task Force meeting and risked arrest as they demanded entry. Calling out the false solutions the Task Force continues to push (which do nothing to stop global warming), local and international Indigenous leaders delivered an open letter to Governor Jerry Brown and members of the Task Force.
The letter states: “You cannot commodify the sacred — we reject these market based climate change solutions and projects like the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation program (REDD+), because they are false solutions that further destroy our rights, our ability to use our forests, and our sovereignty and self-determination. The Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force does not represent us and has no authority over our peoples and territories.”
Signatories continued to call out specific practices that are presented as climate solutions, but, in fact, are attempts to maintain corporate power and government ownership of forests and lands that should belong to the people and do nothing to address the climate crisis:
“But in order to keep it in your hands you invent forms of state ownership such as ‘conservation areas’ or ‘sustainable development areas.’ You invent more forms of offsets such as ‘intelligent agriculture’ ‘biodiversity offsets’ and even ‘butterfly offsets’ that detrimentally affect our lives, our food security, our forests, our biodiversity, and sovereignty. We will never accept the state’s so-called ‘Ecological Area for Sustainable Development for the Province of Pastaza’ or anywhere else in the 37 provinces, 10 countries, and a third of the forests of the world. Our forests are not carbon dumps, they are our homes.”
The letter ended with a call to reject and cancel the Task Force on behalf of future generations who will be disproportionately impacted by its policies and agreements:
“The sacred cannot be commodified nor is it for bargaining. We reject and call for the cancellation of the Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force. We declare this on behalf of our future generations so that they have the possibility of living free like our forests and as free as the eagle of the Amazon. We demand respect to our right to choose how we want to live, how we want to feel, how we want to breathe.”
After a short confrontation with representatives from Brown’s Task Force, several local and international Indigenous representatives were granted entry into the meeting to make their demands heard.
Today’s action is the focus of Day #3 of the Sol2Sol Week that will also include public events, another direct action and forums to demand that Brown and climate profiteers put communities, not corporations, first and call for a divestment from extractive energy industries and investment in local community solutions to fight climate change.

Artful Solutions: Pathways from Homelessness is a continuing effort to develop programs focusing on the needs of homeless populations. Last fall, the Armory offered a pilot version of the program, Families in Transition, in partnership with Union Station Homeless Services and the Pasadena Police Department’s HOPE team. In a series of workshops, individuals and families from various shelters throughout Pasadena, developed their drawing and painting skills to create works which were exhibited and sold at the Armory. The proceeds went directly to the participants.

This batch of band photos are of The February Solution. Over many, many years I have photographed them a lot and did ‘promo’ shots here and there, but this shoot is by far my favourite to date.
However the weather was terrible on the night and due to the drummer turning up late, the sun had gone down and so I had to work with what I had (which wasn’t much).
I love how the shots turned out; all dark and out of focus. But the band thought they turned out just a little too dark for them, booo! So in the end this shoot just turned into a personal thing for me, yey!
Ignore the ‘poses’ I don’t have much control over these hehehe. I just take the photos and do the editing. The band are like my best mates so its hard to be serious and get them to ‘pose’ which they hate hahaha but it was loads of fun!
I really love this one. I like how dull and lifeless it all seems. The blue, cold tones really captured the atmosphere from the shoot. It was a wet, cold and dark night…
