Solid Snake might have been a bit surprised to be sent on a tough mission on his first time out, but there's no easy days in Foxhound. Snake's job is to infiltrate Outer Heaven, an outlaw nation with nuclear aspirations, and find what has happened to the experimental, nuclear-capable Heavy Gear--and Snake's teammate, Gray Fox, who disappeared trying to do the same thing.
Unfortunately for Snake, it's a trap--because the commanding officer of Foxhound--appropriately nicknamed "Big Boss"--is also the big boss of Outer Heaven...and Big Boss has no intentions of giving up Heavy Gear.
Solid Snake is the protagonist of the Metal Gear series, first developed by Hideo Kojima and Konami in 1987. It has gone on to become a gaming juggernaut, with over 50 million copies sold of Metal Gear and its sequels. Snake himself, loosly based on a combination of Michael Biehn in "Aliens" and Kurt Russell's character Snake Plissken in "Escape From New York," is rightfully regarded as one of the most iconic video game characters in history.
It's fairly common to see Solid Snake cosplay at anime conventions, but ACen 2008 may have set a record! At the Metal Gear photoshoot, eight Snakes were in this shot, stacking up on the hedge--and more showed up after I took the picture! While I'm not a Metal Gear player, this was such a great shot that I couldn't resist a picture. (I was actually waiting for them to get finished, since the Evangelion photoshoot was next.)
