The moon through my new 80-400 mm Nikkor VR ED lens

always read stories of Mars for over 60 years.... I expected Humans to be already on Mars by now.... 1969 we landed on the Moon and really we should have been on Mars with 20 years of that.... Imagine the huge improvement in our knowledge would have made Mars out next stop...

Labeled version - The crater Plato seen in the upper left of this image. This image aslo show several mountain ranges, Montes Teneriffe and Montes Spitzbergen along with several other mountains including Mons Pico. What I like most about this image is the long shadows being cast by the mountains.

Another Crescent Moon image, taken the day after the others, the seeing was better and this came out a bit sharper.

Video frames stacked and processed with RegiStax. 12.5" F/4.8 Newtonian and 1.8X barlow. Very steady seeing. Moons Europa to left with Io to the right.

Photo taken with an 8" F/6 Newtonian and 1.8X barlow. About 200 video frames stacked and processed with RegiStax. Labels are from Virtual Moon Atlas.

much smaller than the Moon but still large enough for gravity to form it into a Sphere.... beyond the orbit of Mars this could be a good base for exploration of the outer planets starting with Jupiter...

When I was a lad this was the 9th planet..... still is in my book.. along with its near twin Charon which is locked in obital lock position with it.....

Earlier this week (7/27) I photographed Comet Garradd (C/2009 P1) as it approached the inner solar system - 2.5 A.U. (between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter). The image shows that it is starting to "grow" a tail as it approaches the sun. Telescope:0.5 meter f/6.8 Corrected Dall-Kirkham with a SBIG STX KAF-9000 CCD Camera (LRGB 120s each).

Half way between Mars and Jupiter. On the street that happens to be at the speed bump

Notice the landmarks. The water in the distance seems to be getting closer as I use the zoom lens.
