I've planned to build my own solar heating panels and was intrigued by how this one is built. Here, you can see a layer of insulation in the back, and then in front of that is a sheet of copper that has copper pipe stretched across it from side to side. And this copper is painted black to absorb heat. And then there's a layer of air with glass over it to trap the heat.
