Lampang, Thailand - 5 December 2008- Solar Generation and Greenpeace activists along with coal impacted communities of Mae moh, install a photo voltaic solar energy system at the Occupational Patient Rights Network in Lampang, Thailand. The activity is part of Global Day of Action aiming to send message "get serious about climate change" to governments around the world gather at the Conference of Parties under UNFCCC and Meeting of the Parties under Kyoto Protocol in Poznan, Poland where negotiations are ongoing on a range of measures to curb greenhouse gas emissions to stop the dire impacts predicted to result from climate change.
Mae Moh coal plant is one of the largest lignite-fired electricity generating facilities in Southeast Asia. Every hour the plant pour approximately 7 tons of sulphur dioxide into the local environment. Every year, Mae Moh coal plant emits over 7 million tons of climate change-inducing carbon dioxide.

This 10.78 kW solar system is mounted on a large rack structure
designed to securely hold the 44 ISOFOTON 245-watt solar panels. The electricity captured by the panels is converted from DC to AC by two large SMA inverters, which were selected to maximize the amount of power produced by this new solar photovoltaic array.

Today,, Students installed the solar array frame to the pedestal, and started installing the solar panels. A total of six 240watt panels will eventually be installed.

A 12 volt fan as quiet as this seems to be hard to find. I ordered this one from China. It is made for plugging into the cigarette lighter of a vehicle and is popular with truck drivers apparently. I connected it to a cigarette lighter type outlet which I could then plug into the solar panel because it had the same kind of connector.

It recently came to my attention that a set of 48 parking pay stations installed in downtown Olympia, at a cost of some several hundred thousands of dollars to city tax-payers, are equipped with solar panels manufactured by none other than the now notorious BP Petro-chemical company.
I wish that the city of which I am part would no longer do business with companies that are engaged in such harmful and abusive practices. BP is a good example. And there are many others, ranging from Motorola, to IBM, to Coca-Cola, and the list is long.
In an enlightened and altruistic socio-economic system, that is full of individuals who are awake with an understanding of the interconnectedness of all beings, companies that engage in harmful activities would not receive business.
It is wrong for people to hurt each other, and the actions of people who are responsible for the conduct of these large companies, as well as the actions of people who are responsible for the conduct of city governments, are no exception.
I want the City of Olympia to boycott BP, return these solar panels and request compensation for the cost of installation, because the people of the City of Olympia do not deserve to be party to the high crimes of BP!
This economic system is full of criminal activity, whether it is over-fishing of the oceans, mountaintop removal, or exploitation of labor: criminal activity ought to be challenged and opposed in the light of day by governments at all levels, very much including municipal and city governments.
