Ennis National Fish Hatchery was honored as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Hatchery of the Year for 2010. The hatchery earned this recognition by showing leadership in applying methods to reduce its carbon footprint. Most notably, hatchery staff utilized American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to design and install a solar photovoltaic array to offset their electricity use.

This project was the renovation of an apartment building.
Colt Belgium was awarded the contract to provide the steelwork and special Ellisse sliding solar panels with fixed aluminium blades. The frames are made of flat aluminum strips with fixed rectangular louvres. For the terrace separations Colt used a double bank design which ensures

Les panneaux installés devant la maison, orientés plein sud, alimentent un chauffe-eau thermodynamique. C'est un ballon d'eau chaude avec une petite pompe à chaleur air/eau posée dessus. Le ballon thermodynamique ne se met en route que si les panneaux solaires ne suffisent pas. L'installation a été fournie et posée à Bouclans en Franche-Comté dans le département du Doubs par l'agence ThermoSeme de Bezançon.
The solar panels are layed in front of the house, facing south. They feed into a thermodynamic waterheater : it is a watertank fitted with an air/water heatpump on top. The heatpump switches on only if the solar panels cannot provide all the required heat.
Day 3, October 1, 2013. The solar panel is then passed to another worker on the upper main roof who moves it into position.

Interestingly, that vent pipe at dead center robs the panel behind it of around 1/3 of its generating capacity. Since they're on micro-inverters, the impact is limited to that one panel.

I got this picture the other evening, it is of a wind farm, with spinning wind turbines. Quite a site to see in person.
