The Morrin Sod House

Now Sods law is clearly not the name of this munro, but a situation, so whilst this is not a picture/photograph as such, it serves as a rather amusing memory jogger for me.

We had had a really long, busy and emotionally fraught day out shooting. We were shooting for well over 12 hours, covering over 250 miles in total and driving around like nutters on the one day of reasonable light that we had in the full 8 days, well, not so much reasonable light as much as that it was not raining!

Our photo trek on this day took us to Glenfinnan for the loch and monument shot, then Loch Eilt, and to capture the Jacobite steam train which was running late, then off to Mallaig and Morar via the dreadful roadworks, back to Glen Coe, along to Glen Etive, then finally back along Glen Coe to Fort William where we were staying! (phew) and this was where we spotted that there was the most perfect light on the mountain that was visible at the back of Morrisons supermarket! where we had stopped exhausted to pick up some food for evening meal.

We then drove back like nutters to the flat, knowing there was nowhere we could really shoot it, just intending to enjoy it for the sight that it was, but i grabbed this shot over the back fence, whilst cursing that there was the most amazing light on the mountain, with pink fluffy clouds, sunset and a little rainbow which was just out of shot too! and to make it even better.... no bloody midges!! all with nowhere to capture it. Sods law!

After swearing some, and generally blaspheming, we decided that it was possibly a good thing to have missed it, as if we had captured a shot of Glen Coe, in this light, we possibly would have to of retired from photography as there would have been no beating it thereafter.
