April 17: Where I Drink My Coffee
This is my current weekday coffee drinking spot. Somehow I inherited Caleb's old child-size desk chair. It's horribly uncomfortable and I'm in need of an upgrade.
The government has taken over our lives in ways we would have never imagined. First they claimed we would have to "stay at home" and "stay safe at home", until they "flattened the curve", then the goal post was moved to "we must stay inside until we get a vaccine". Then pompous NY Governor Cuomo told his constituents to stay home, don't go out, shouted for ventilators on and on he went. A recent report shows that those infected and dying in NYS were people that stayed at home, were retired or unemployed. That group was affected by Covid 19 more than anyone else in that state, 66%, to be exact. Winston Churchill once said, "No crisis should go to waste". Will our politicians take advantage of this crisis to fundamentally change our freedoms and way of life. Will they use this crisis to further their financial enrichment? There are signs this is already happening. They are arresting people that open their businesses, they send in Police SWAT Teams to close down beaches, parks and parties at private homes. Mayor Lightfoot in Chicago said she would arrest anyone that had a party.
And just prior to this massive government overreach, Senators Burr, Feinstein, Inhofe and possibly others dumped millions of dollars in investments shortly before the recent market crash. They did so after receiving daily briefings on the Covid 19 health threat. How have these people achieved political office? That's a question all Americans have to grapple with after Covid 19 is gone.
Covid-19 has brought out tons of colorful, creative sidewalk art. "Keep breathing - just not on each other. We got this."

This is not one of my "art" photos, folks, but it is a way to keep in touch. Hope you are all well & staying safe! I live near Albany, New York. We do not yet have a dangerous number of COVID-19 cases, but only time will tell if things will remain that way. We have been urged to stay home by Governor Cuomo & I really admire the way he is handling things! Even so, there are folks who are not taking the situation seriously & are, thereby, endangering all of us! I have been sheltering since March 13th, 4 days before the first case was reported in my county. I heard that I should drive my car at least once a week for at least 20 minutes with some highway time. Today, I decided to go on my regular shopping route, without leaving my car. I drove to our big local mall--always busy--& found an essentially empty parking lot--a sobering reminder of the situation in which we find ourselves!
Boys invited me for some #socialdistancing shuttle laps. Everyone drove up with their own vehicle and we kept 6 feet apart during shuttling, 2 guys in the cabin as far apart as possible and two guys in the tailgate and obviously we held our breath the entire way up. $2 HotDog was running smoothly from top to bottom. The name of the game was keep your ass behind your bike and hold on the entire way down 😁.

What makes today "Day One"? Well, today, Monday, is the first day of our school's distance learning program. Students are learning from home, but teachers are coming in for the next few days to get this program up and running. Since I'll be staying home for the foreseeable future, I decided to take this plant home. Normally, I neglect it every day I work until it gets so brittle that I have to water it, but I have made it my mission to nurse it back to life while we are both "stuck" home in my apartment. Maybe what I really need is a pet?

Sometimes a moment of coloring brings my brain some peace. It’s more active than just sitting quietly but I often find it more effective. Particularly in times like these where focusing is a struggle.
(April Photo-A-Day challenge complete. Yay! I’m glad I did it. I’m also glad it’s over. It felt good to spend more time looking at the world differently.)

Is the messaging finally getting through. Even the birds are doing it!
Now we just need to persuade our kids.
