The experience at the Craters of the Moon was one of those I will never forget...The fact that it was snowing in June, that the fog enveloped the whole area, and that it was completely unexpected makes for one of those moments in life you are not inclined to forget. My understanding is these conditions are not common...I feel like one of those "it was meant to be" moments.
Yes this photo was taken in June near Manning Park, BC and the white stuff covering the trail was real snow and ice! The altitude was around 1,200m above sea level.

a beautiful rose bush developed from a simple cutting taken years back at a building site - just on time; a week later the original bush was gone, bulldozered with the building next to it

From end of 2013 to autumn 2015 I kept a kind of a visual, irregular diary on Ipernity. There were only three or four people who knew about it. As Ipernity will close down by end of January 2017, I’m migrating eight sets of photos from that time, hopefully one per day during the next eight days. The first set is from a two day solo hike up the Säntis from Schwägalp via Tierliwies (a lovely steep climb which I first did in 1998, long before moving to Switzerland, falling in love with this mountain) and down to Wasserauen the following day in early June 2014. Many of the photos that I was excited about in 2014 I am no longer so excited about; these 11 I still want to survive Ipernity, although some are just personal keepsakes.

Seen from a vista point at the end of the River Trail in Calaveras Big Trees State Park.
A 1.5 hour hike along the ledges winding through giant sequoias, tall pines, and cedars towering above a forest floor covered with dogwoods, California hazel nut, red buds, and an incredible collection of wild flowers brings one to an elevation rise of only about 350 ft (ending up at about 5000 ft), because of the numerous switchbacks along the trail. The vista point can also be reached by car, but that is not as much fun!
The Carson Iceberg wilderness and the Dardanelles range straddle the crest of the central Sierra Nevada mountains. The peaks range from 5000 to over 11000 ft. As seen in these photos, snow lasts through late spring and early summer months.

The large rectangles that defile these magnificent vistas are a result of clear cut operations by lumber companies.

I am in the process of cleaning files and moving over to an external HD. I have Jan. 07 - July 07, cleaned, moved and in dated folders. This is from our vacation in Reno, NV~June 1, 2007. I shot this by putting down the window as we were driving. This is my Canon 70-300 kit lens.
Happy Holidays everyone!!
