Inspired by the clouds. Love Smartwater Sparkling! The effervescent bubbles just seem so happy as they dance to the top. Water is my favorite beverage and has forever been part of my daily routine.
I was glad to see that Brain Pickings was referenced in the description for this week's theme on Macro Mondays. I read it on Feedly which is also part of my daily routine. I like it because I can subscribe to the news I want and also subscribe to various blogs. Brain Pickings does an excellent job of highlighting very interesting philosophies.
One of my all-time favorite posts from Brain Pickings was about Bruce Lee/Be Water, My Friend. Such a great story. There is a clip from the Longstreet episode in the post, but this clip at about 6:50 puts it in some context.
I also love Shannon Lee's podcasts The Bruce Lee Podcast about her father's life and philosophies. Since it's weekly, it's definitely part of my weekly routine.
Be water, my friend...

Yeah!!! We got it, November 11th, 2011 at 11:11 and 11 seconds - trying to coordinate 50 some people and set a 10 sec timer to go off at exactly 11:11:11 and get in the picture too - a tough task but it worked! Thanks to the global Coke marketing team all huddling in a meeting room for 11 minutes waiting for this shot - you guys rock!
and thanks TimeandDate.com for the clock webpage.

Art Week Gallery Theme ~ A Bit of Glow ~
This week 25 Aug. - 31 Aug. our theme is:
~~~~~ A Bit of Glow ~~~~~
I rested near this waterfall for a half hour. I was beat and hurting and nearly out of water.
They strongly suggest that you don't take water from any of the sources in Potholes Coulee. It's irrigation runoff. For some reason, filters and iodine tabs can't ward off the ill effects.
I'm not sure how science-based this is, to be honest. Irrigation runoff will include herbicides and pesticide runoff, but how much is too much? How much is bad? (The dose - not the substance - makes the poison.)
I filled up my bottle because it was either that or extreme dehydration. I was scolded by a lovely do-gooder who also told me that my waterbottle (a heavily-used Smartwater bottle) was garbage. Their bottle was steel and more expensive and also a lot heavier. I'll stick with my cheap plastic thank you.
Anyway, I survived the water. The amount of potentially harmful chemicals in it varies depending upon the time of the year and what's going on upstream.
I'd like to see some tests done on the water at various times of the year to see if it's okay. But that costs money I don't have.
Replaced the photo, after I increased the saturation a little. You know, it's hard to find a photoshop alternative that works well on the mac... =D That, and my X installation is borked, so I can't use the gimpy Gimp....
Strobist Info: I tried to augment the sun with some light from my SB-26, but I think it could have turned out a lot better. I think I just needed more power!!!!! Ahem. SB-26, handheld, wherever my left arm could get it, on the end of an sc-17 cord. Next time, the SB600 gets pressed into service.
A new shopping and restaurant complex called 63 Las Vegas is under construction at the southwest corner of Harmon Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard. This lot has been vacant since the demolition of The Harmon, a hotel and condo tower that was partially built but demolished before opening due to the discovery of construction defects. The mall will include the new flagship location for Ocean Prime, a steakhouse and seafood restaurant from Columbus, Ohio's Cameron Mitchell Restaurants.
Not long after the charter set passed through, another treat came along, if one can call it that, but at least the traction is 'classic', this time in the form of the 'Flying Banana' or 'Yellow Peril' as its colloquially known as but more technically is the N.M.T., the New Measurement Train, set. This is operated by Colas Rail for Network Rail and consists of two class 43, H.S.T., 'High Speed Train' power cars with 43062, 'John Armitt' leading and possibly 43013 at the back, heading north on the 1Q34, Derby R.T.C. to Hull, working. As such this train undertakes computerised track measuring work at line speed and hence vastly increasing the efficiency of finding track problems before they can become serious; there was a TV program last year relating to this engineering service. At left, and advancing along the 'Old Road' northwards, in reality not stopping at the signal but for this picture we can imagine it did, to allow the HST set through, is GBRf operated class 47s, 47749, ex-D1660, named now 'City of Truro' with fellow class 47, 47727, ex-D1629, 'Edinburgh Castle' behind hauling a charter train for 'Pathfinder Tours, the 1Z84, Gloucester to Sunderland, 'The Tees & Wear Explorer'. The graffiti, removed twice now as far as I am aware, on the red-brick relay-room wall on the freight, platform 4 line, has re-appeared once more; its all starting look a bit of a mess! A Rotherham Corporation double-decker bus passes over Coronation Bridge in the brightly lit background en-route for the new temporary Bus Station on Forge Island, once the home of heavy industry and subsequently 'Tescos Supermarket'. Tescos moved to a much bigger site two years ago after the demise, in 2013, of the 'Blockhouse', the lovely town library, see-
and the old store on Forge Island was demolished earlier this year. Another structure in Rotherham, the 1970s Bus Station is now also under-going refurbishment so it, and the large multi-storey car park above it, are closed whilst the work is going on, see Gavin.B's aerial view here-
The bus is also advertising the arrival of another new film, 'The Last Purge'-
'...The Purge is a 2013 American dystopian horror film written and directed by James DeMonaco. The film stars Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Adelaide Kane, and Max Burkholder as members of a family who find themselves endangered by a gang of murderers during the titular annual Purge, a night during which all crime, even murder, is temporarily legal, sanctioned by a reformed American government...'
Happy Labor Day! So how much fun was it to take this pic? Loved what the sun was doing!
Even though I worked for Coke for almost 12 years, my favorite beverage is water. I was so happy in 1999 when Coke launched Dasani water. Then in May 2007, when Coke puchased the parent company of Smartwater, I was ecstatic! Smartwater tastes great and has electrolytes.
So I would be at my desk every afternoon, the vending machines literally right in front of me. There was always a Smartwater on my desk. If I wanted a snack to go along, it was often Ding Dongs, making it the perfect combo. Ionized AND energized, how could I go wrong?
And if it's true, we are what we eat, I'll just say that I still drink much more Smartwater than I eat Ding Dongs. . .
Tomorrow, maybe I'll talk about my opinions on Twinkies and Ho-Ho's. ;-)))
Greater Manchester Police is joining forces with other officers across the North West and the security industry to run a joint operation targeting cash-in-transit robberies and theft of ATMs in the run-up to Christmas.
The action will be co-ordinated by Titan (North West Regional Organised Crime Unit), the regional collaboration to tackle serious and organised crime groups involved in drug trafficking, firearms, armed robberies, aggravated burglaries and other serious crimes.
Officers from Titan, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire, Cumbria and North Wales, the British Security Industry Association (BSIA), SaferCash and other partner agencies will be working together for the second year running to combat cash-in-transit robberies.
Following last year's campaign, cash-in-transit robberies in December across the region fell by more than 66 per cent compared to December 2010.
In December 2011, there were three cash-in-transit robberies across the region compared to nine in December 2010. Of those in 2011, two were in GMP and one was in Merseyside. In 2010, there were five offences in GMP, two offences in Merseyside and two offences in Cheshire in the month of December.
This year's campaign launched on Monday, 3 December and sees officers using both high-visibility and covert patrols on the ground and in the air to escort security vehicles as they carry out their normal deliveries.
A number of other tactics will be used to prevent these robberies, including armed police vehicles escorting high-risk security vehicles as they carry out cash deliveries; overt and covert CCTV monitoring; patrol cars following cash-handling vehicles; plus all cash containers will include either Smartwater or a dye, which will be released when they are opened.
Initiatives to reduce cash-in-transit robberies have already been very successful in the region and this further proactive, co-ordinated approach sends a very clear message to criminals that these attacks will not be tolerated.
The action follows significant success so far this year in combating cash-in-transit robberies across the region with 24 offenders being convicted and sentenced to more than 161 years in prison.
This year's campaign will also focus on reducing the number of incidents targeting ATMs.
Detective Superintendent John Lyons from Titan said: "The region has seen a significant fall in cash-in-transit robberies in recent years but we are not complacent and we are determined to make sure that criminals continue to not see these types of offences as easy ways to make money.
"While there has been a drop in the number of cash-in-transit robberies there has been a shift towards criminals targeting cash machines across the region so we will also be concentrating our efforts on ensuring these are secure and those who try to tamper with them are swiftly caught."
He added: "Our message to those planning on carrying out cash-in-transit robberies or attempting to steal cash machines in the run-up to Christmas is clear - we will find you and we will make sure you spend this Christmas and many more to come behind bars away from your family and loved ones.
"Robberies that target cash-in-transit vehicles, banks, post offices and commercial businesses are often violent offences that can result in life-changing mental and physical scars on those who find themselves confronted by these criminals.
"They are not victimless crimes and cause deep distress to those at the brunt of the attacks.
"Titan together with the six police forces in the North West are committed to cracking down on the criminals who make the lives of people making an honest living in the security and commercial industries a misery and we will continue to use all the powers available to us to target these criminals, prevent offences and bring those responsible to justice."
DI David Swift from GMP added: " The Greater Manchester region has more than its share of armed robberies because of its highly commercialised nature and the public’s demand for cash machines in a wide range of public facilities including petrol forecourts, local shops and on the high street.
"GMP and the security industries are using a range of overt and covert tactics to deter, disrupt and detect the activities of armed robbers.
“A standing command for police vehicles on general duties to escort unaccompanied cash-in-transit robberies vehicles they come upon has been particularly successful in making it difficult for criminals to plan their activities around unescorted delivery vans".
Two delivery drivers, who are partners on a cash-and-transit van making deliveries and collections across the North West, have been victims of such crimes on numerous occasions and have spoken out about their experiences in a bid to raise awareness about the impact of these offences.
The guards, who wish to remain anonymous, were last attacked in June 2012. They have both worked in the industry for nearly 12 years.
One guard, aged 43, who was at the brunt of the most recent attack, said: "We are ordinary, working men with families and jobs we love that we are determined not to let criminals spoil. However, the effect of these attacks is huge and impacts on everything - from family life to sleeping patterns. It never leaves you, even when you are off duty you are still wary of people in the street and in vehicles, especially near to your home.
"Even though we have specialist training, once you have been a victim of one of these attacks, especially the more violent ones where they use weapons and you don't know if you will get to see your family again, it is very difficult to switch off and carry on with normal life.
"I hope any potential offenders who are thinking of targeting delivery vans or ATMs this Christmas spare a thought for the workers like my partner and I, who are trying to earn a living for our families, and are the ones left with the mental and physical scars that will never leave us. We are the ones who will continue to relive the trauma - the shouting, the fear and the threat of violence - and I can vouch that they are certainly not victimless crimes."
The other guard, who is 44, added: "The effect can be devastating and can affect you unexpectedly even in day to day life. I was recently withdrawing cash from an ATM and a man in a high vis vest came running round the corner. I instinctively cowered down and shouted 'What are you doing?' The man said he was sorry but was running because he was late for work.
"Even your kids at home jumping on you playfully can momentarily have an impact. You feel as though you are constantly living on the edge and are always thinking 'Will I get attacked today?'
"When you are not the victim and you see your partner getting attacked that also has a huge emotional consequence leaving you feeling racked with guilt thinking I should have done more to prevent that but in reality the attackers are so determined that there is little else you can do.
"I hope anyone reading this who may have information about those involved in this type of crime thinks about the impact on people like us and the cost we pay for their financial gain. I hope hearing our story will make the difference between them picking up the phone to call the police and sitting by doing nothing."
All North West police forces, in partnership with the security industries, will continue to share intelligence and provide assistance for cross-border deliveries throughout the campaign and in the following months.
Steve Hurst, head of SaferCash, said: "This initiative is an excellent example of the North West not only working in partnership with the Forces within the region but also with industry. SaferCash and the BSIA are fully supportive and are providing resources to work with the North West to reduce this type of violent crime and to support any prosecutions"
Titan will also be sending Christmas cards to those who have previously been convicted of cash-in-transit, commerical burglaries and ATM robberies as a reminder to stay on the right side of the law this festive season or face another Christmas behind bars.
Police are asking the public to be vigilant and help stop the violence by reporting any suspicious activity in the run up to the festive season to their local force by calling 101, or to Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111. In an emergency always call 999.
ive been wanting to get back into taking shots more and more.
making something even if its not what i would call fantastic. just something.
the need to be productive,even in slight ways,is enough to drive me out of my mind.
ive got some really cool projects waiting in the wings.stuff that in the coming months
i feel will truly explore and test the limits of what i can do and what my manipulations
so far have taught me. but.. i must wait. manipulations with other people are far
more interesting to me than just MORE of myself. but,this idea came to me,and i decided
to get off my ass and do it. plus, i have been seeing alot of black and white photography
lately that reminded me i never really waded out into that pool. and i love what other
people do with it.
i guess you could call this a mash-up of several alcohol and cigar ads i have seen,
along with the jennifer aniston ads that are all over. i wanted to imitate them as well
as add my own touches.
Greater Manchester Police is leading the way in a new North West crackdown on armed robberies, following the Force’s major success over the past year, resulting in 33 offenders being convicted and sentenced to a total of 204 years.
These excellent results have been achieved thanks to Vanguard, GMP’s operation aimed at reducing armed robberies, and have made a significant contribution to the 58 per cent reduction in the number of cash-in-transit (CIT) attacks across the North West during 2010.
The North West will become a no-go area for armed robbers in the run up to Christmas as officers from Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cumbria and North Wales will work with the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) to safeguard commercial and financial businesses, along with CIT vehicles during their delivery and pick-up times.
“The success we’ve had in arresting and convicting so many offenders should be a warning to anyone thinking of committing this type of crime - there is no hiding place for them and they risk spending Christmas behind bars. The fact that so many key offenders have been locked up across Greater Manchester in the last year due to the successful work of Vanguard, means that the number of CIT robberies has dramatically reduced,” said Detective Chief Inspector Pat McKelvey, from Greater Manchester Police’s Vanguard team.
“However, there are still too many innocent victims suffering at the hands of criminals who do not hesitate to use violence. With Christmas approaching – traditionally one of the busiest times of year for this type of crime - we are determined to keep our communities safer by targeting, deterring and disrupting criminals who carry out CIT attacks and robberies of commercial and financial premises.”
A variety of tactics will be used to prevent these robberies, including armed police vehicles escorting high-risk security vehicles as they carry out cash deliveries; the use of overt and covert CCTV monitoring; patrol cars following cash-handling vehicles; plus all cash containers will include either Smartwater or a dye, which will be released if opened illegally.
In addition, the Force helicopter will shadow the vehicles from the air during collections or deliveries, enabling any activity to be monitored. While all North West police forces will continue to share intelligence and provide assistance for cross-border deliveries.
Detective Chief Inspector Pat McKelvey concludes: “I would like to stress that this is a devastating and often violent crime that can cause deep distress for the victims. Without key information from the public we wouldn’t be able to remove these offenders from the street. Therefore, we would ask the public to be vigilant and if anyone has any information to help us catch those responsible, please call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
Vanguard is committed to making the security and commercial industries safer places to work by tackling offenders on the streets, in the courts and in our communities.
