You might remember that I visited a transportation museum called "PS Speicher".
Well, because they have so many cars, they have several "outlets" (called deopts) in the city of Einbeck.
These pictures were taken at the "Small Car Outlet" (PS Depot Kleinwagen).

Fortunately many Steyr Baby cars survived the horrors of the war. In post-war East-block countries like here in Hungary, they were very much appreciated because access to the Western Europe car market was very difficult.

The streamlined Steyr Typ 55 was the revised version of the Type 50. This 50 was developed in 1935 by engineer/director Karl Jenschke (1899-1969). The official presentation followed in February 1936 at the IAMA in Berlin.
The Steyr 50 was designed according to the new streamlined ideas which became more and more popular in the first half of the 1930s. Jenschke knew streamline specialist Hans Ledwinka. Although one could expect that Ledwinka or Ferdinand Porsche were involved in the development of the Typ 50 is this not true.
The Steyr 50/55 was quite popular in its homeland Austria. It received there the name Steyr-Baby. In neighbor country Germany was very little interest for this small car.
In Spring 1938 Typ 50 was replaced by Typ 55. It had a stronger engine but had the same body and equipment.
Type 55 is easy to recognize by the ventilation openings in the wheel rims.

- Designed under the leadership of Alec Issigonis, the Minor Series had his debut at the Earls Court Motor Show, London, on 20 September 1948.
- Originally the protoype was called the Mosquito.
- Considered to be the “World's Supreme Small Car”, it was the first British car to ever to reach a production rate of one million (in 1961), in total 1,532,223 units, including 74,960 Tourers.
- Originally the flat strip running down the center of the bonnet is a tribute to the historic decision regarding the Morris Minors.
- The Morris Minor was a limited sell in America, which may have been a result of internal politicking by inside manufacturer BMC (British Motor Corporation).
- The Minor Series took it successfully against the Volkswagen Beetle, the Renault 4CV and Citroen 2CV and was built until 1971 (Tourer models until 1969).
- The Minor Series was available as this four-door Saloon, as two-door Saloon, as two-door Tourer, as two-door wood-framed Traveller, as two-door Traveller wood-framed Estate, as two-door Pick-Up and as two-door Panel Van.
- The Minor Series was assembled in Oxford (UK), Birmingham (UK) and in Victoria Park (Australia).

Der Grade F 4 A erschien 1926.

Grade-Automobil-Werke AG, known as Grade-Automobil-AG from 1925, was a German company in the legal form of a stock corporation based in the Bork colony (now the municipality of Borkheide) in Brandenburg, which produced small cars in the 1920s.
In February 1921, Grade-Automobil-Werke AG was founded by aircraft designer Hans Grade to manufacture small cars. The provisions of the Treaty of Versailles largely prohibited aircraft construction activities in Germany after the First World War, so that many aircraft manufacturers moved into neighboring areas such as vehicle construction. In the same year, the company presented an open two-seater at the Berlin Motor Show. In 1922, the Carl Rüttgers motor plow factory in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen was taken over, which resulted in a significant increase in production capacity.
The Grade F 4 A appeared in 1926. It had a four-cylinder two-stroke engine with a 56 mm bore, 100 mm stroke, 980 cm³ displacement and 24 hp. With a track width of 125 cm, the wheelbase was 300 cm. This model had a differential. The body offered space for four people. Only a few vehicles were built until 1928.

Came across this Mini Mark VII, S464 YAB when paying a visit to my local petrol station, Toton, 7th July 2025. The Mini was first introduced in 1959 and revolutionised the car market with its intuitive design of transverse engine. It was in production until 2000 with well over five million vehicles produced of all types. Looking at one today you realise how small they actually are compared to a modern “small” car. S464 YAB was first registered in February 1999.
The PV series of two-door and four-passenger cars were made by Volvo from 1947 to 1966. During World War II's early stages, Volvo decided that a new, smaller car that could deliver good fuel economy would assure the company's future. A raw materials shortage during the war drove home the point that an automobile should be smaller, and also complicated Volvo's ability to mass-produce the product. In 1944, when the car was finally introduced to a car-hungry public, response was very positive and orders poured in from the Swedish population. It was another three years though, until 1947, before series production began.

Curb weight: 1188 kg
Special:
- The Erskine was an American automobile brand produced by the Studebaker Corporation from 1926 to 1930 and named after Studebaker's president Albert Russel Erskine, known as "The Little Aristocrat".
- Erskine saw potential in smaller short-wheel-base compact cars like in Europe to expand the Studebaker / Erskine brand in Europe.
- To keep the cars cheap, they used for instance Continental engines in stead of there own advanced engines, mechanical brakes in stead of hydraulic brakes and a cheaper to produce cam & lever steering system in stead of worm & wheel steering.
- However, within a year Ford introduced its Model A (1927) and priced it at $525, undercutting the Erskine by $470. The "small car deal" became a failure for Studebaker. Ultimately, the Erskine was absorbed into Studebaker by May 1930.
- The "Six" body was designed by Ray Dietrich.
- This "Six" has a Continental 7U Vertical L-head engine, a three-speed manual gearbox with floor shifter, a single plate clutch, a Zenith carburettor, cam & lever steering, semi-elliptic leaf springs (front and rear), a semi-floating type rear axle, external contracting mechanical brakes on (only) the rear wheels, wooden artillery spoke wheels with straight side rims, Firestone balloon tires and rear wheel drive.
I took this shot in NYC back in April and it's a pretty straight reflection shot taken in a copper turnstye entrance to a building. I've been meaning to post but haven't had the chance, well today is the day. I like the compressed look of the white vehicle, something about small puny cars that has my interest but that's a developing story for down the road.
SIMCA (Société Industrielle de Mécanique et Carrosserie Automobile) was the subsidiary company of FIAT in France. The factory opened in 1936, in the Paris suburbs. The early models were badged SIMCA-FIAT.
This 1937 model is a wonderful example of a small car that doesn't feel miserable. It is carefully built, and the interior is cosy.

The treacly small car Klv 53 is a vehicle for rail construction works and maintainance works. It was procured by the German Federal Railroad from 1964 in a total of 840 copies what makes him the most-built vehicle.
Small car I built lately, first inspiration for it came from Isaac Wu. Not much to say about it, fits two, maybe three figs, I might modify it and take better pictures since this one is atrocious, thankfully I have quite a lot of time due to the outbreak. Comments appreciated!

Motor: 4-Zylinder-Reihenmotor
Hubraum: 1177 cm³

The NSU TT succeeded the NSU Prinz and was the next model in an entire series of popular small cars forming part of the NSU programme since 1958.
This compact vehicle featured a self-supporting body, a design element more usual with larger automobiles. For a small car, it offered much space for passengers and luggage. The TT was a sports model, and incorporated a 1.2 l transversely mounted engine in the rear. It was produced between 1967 and 1972. NSU successfully sold over 1 million small cars, but almost went out of business with the risky Wankel engine projects. The company merged with Auto Union GmbH in 1969.

Engine: 1414cc straight-4
Power: 51 bhp / 5.100 rpm
Speed: 120 km/h
Production time: 1954 – 1955/1957
Production outlet: 29,046 (official H's 1954-1955)
Production outlet: 196,004 (all 444's, 1944-1958)
Curb weight: 960 kg
Special:
- "We want to build a small car, but not a soapbox," said Assar Gabrielsson, a Swedish industrialist and co-founder of Volvo, and designer Helmer Petterson went to work.
- The result was the PV 444.
- The exterior design of the PV 444 was very influenced by American cars like Pontiac and Ford.
- PV stands for "PersonVagn", the first "4" for 4 seats and the last "44" for the year 1944.
- Only after WWII, in 1947, production got really going.
- It has a three-speed manual gearbox, a Zenith carburettor (since 1954: until than they used a Carter carb.), a 6-Volts electric system, a 35 liter fuel tank, drum brakes all around and rear wheel drive.
- The 444s were available with 5 types of transmissions: M3, H3, H4, H5 and H6 (a 3-speed manual gearbox with synchromesh on 2nd and 3rd gears).
- The independent front suspension has coil springs, telescopic dampers, wishbones and anti-rollbar, while the rear has a live axle, coil springs, telescopic dampers, torque arms and Panhard rod.
- The special version (S) has stainless steel hubcaps and trims strips on the wings, cigarette lighter, grab handles, vinyl and fabric upholstery and two sun visors.
- The H was the first 444 with the rear window made from one piece.
- The split-windows of the 444 has a important safety improvement: the screens are laminated.
- According to the year of construction, this car must be a PV 444 K (1955-1957, 33,917 built), with the new B14A engine (twin SU H2 carbs and 70 bhp / 5.000 rpm) and new grille (instead of the usual transverse ribs like this vehicle). BUT: the boundary between the H-model and the K-model is not necessary exact to specify. Many unsold H models were sold untill 1957, in addition to the model K ☺!
- So this model 03 H has the “old” B4B engine, no new grille and still the “old” taillights.
- VOLVO made, over other car manufacturers, much more use of subcontractors.

This is an original Fiat 500 produced in Italy between 1957 and 1975. These cars were Italy's answer to the VW Beetle. This style was also the inspiration for the 'New" Fiat 500 introduced in Italy in 2007 and 2010 in North America. This car was photographed in Paris France.
Launched as the Nuova (new) 500 in July 1957, it was a cheap and practical town car. Measuring only 2.97 metres (9 feet 9 inches) long, and originally powered by an appropriately sized 479 cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine, the 500 redefined the term "small car" and is considered one of the first city cars.
In 2007, the 50th anniversary of the Nuova 500's launch, Fiat launched another new 500, stylistically inspired by the 1957 Nuova 500 but considerably heavier and larger, featuring a front-mounted engine and front-wheel drive.
