Summer comes to the Black Oak savanna, a contientally rare ecosystem found in Toronto's High park and a few other places in the region. In this ecosystem grasslands develop on well-drained soils, studded with drought and fire -resistant trees such as Black Oaks. This year the Gypsy Moth caterpillar infestation has been stripping many of the trees of their leaves.
Gainsborough Ravine, Toronto On 19 Nov 2020
Another ravine fragment of the Small's/Tomlins Creek system in Toronto's east end. Once part of the old Toronto Golf Course, redeveloped for housing in the 1910s. The ravine saw a lot of dumping of ashes and rubbish from the 1920s onwards. Now it survives as a ravine fragment with a short surface watercourse.
Williamson Ravine, Toronto ON, 9 Nov 2020
The Williamson Ravine is a segment of the Small's/Tomlin's creek ravine system in Toronto's east end. Once a part of the old Toronto Golf Course, it survived as a ravine feature while the surroundings were turned into housing.
Many of Toronto's ravines have lost their creeks, but Small's Creek still runs on the surface here.
This was taken before 10.00am so counts as a sunrise !
This was a rare take on ICBM photography. Just for fun & not a technique I often pursue. A bit of a Marmite approach really.

Chinook Salmon attempt to leap the obstacle built to keep them out of the headwaters of the Humber River. The barrier can be usually be cleared by the native Atlantic Salmon, but the Chinook find it more difficult.

Looking back into the archives. I filmed the 2017 edition of the powwow in slow motion, with a field-recorded soundtrack.
The video below is not in slowmo and very short, I promise. Pay attention to the face of disgust of the guy to the left. He kept looking at us with some dislike and complaining about it with his wife. Apparently he disliked muscular women who walk like a man LOL

Back after a 2-year pandemic hiatus

Today should be Pedestrian Sunday in Toronto's Kensington Market. But thanks to the pandemic, is is not happening. Here are memories of 30 October 2016.
Video is mostly in slow motion shot with the SONY RX100 IV. Soundtrack is a field-recording of one of the bands who played the market that day.
This is a slow-mo video of murres, puffins, and razorbills flying by as I seat facing northeast on the cliffs of Grimsey, Iceland. Enjoy while I travel to Svalbard - I will be offline till later in mid July. It will be overcast and wet but super excited about the experience!
A quick trip into the canyons. This one is Butterbox Canyon or otherwise known as Mt Hay Canyon and is one of my favourites in the Blue Mountains.

A brownfield site which lay vacant for several years, and grew a fine old field meadow is now slated for redevelopment. Offices are planned. Toronto's Junction Triangle is about to lose another piece of wildscape which has been attracting my visual attention over the years.
This may be the meadow's last autumn.
