Hike up Slogen 2
Engsetelva in Norwegian, or River Engset in English. A snow melt river running down from the Sunmøren alps which we passed when hiking to patchellhytta before heading up Slogen.
Walking towards the top of Slogen at the west coast of Norway. One of the most popular peaks in the Sunnmøre Alps. 1564 meters above sea level.
"One of the proudest in europe" - William Cecil Slingsby
The booklet Rock climbs in Sunnmøre says the following about Slogen:
This grand peak which rises sheer out of the fjord near Union Hotel at Øye, has provoked more lyrical outbursts from prominent climbers than any other peak in Sunnmøre. Slingsby called it the prettiest peak in Norway. Mrs. Shannon has said that the view from the top literally took her breath away; Raeburn has said that the Fjord Route affords more climbing than what is afforded from the Italian or Swiss side of the Matterhorn; and Patchell has said that there can scarcely be another rock peak of its height in the world more impressive. It is certainly a peak which is equally attractive to experts and novices alike.
Leaving Urkedalen, behind mount Slogen. The valley ends in Urke, about 9 km from where my trip to Slogen started. Unfortunately, there were no cars going in my direction, so I had to walk the last 9 k's too :-)
