The sharp, shapely summit of Slogen. Seen from the little town of Sæbø across the Norangsfjord a side fjord of the Storfjord in western Norway.

For info: This is not a crater lake, the valley has been shaped by a glacier. The mountains are of ordinary folded Scandinavian bedrock. You don't find a volcano here, there is no hint of volcanic activity for at least half a billion years.

Mt Slogen rises from sea level to 1564 m in one continuous slope and is quite popular among hikers and climbers all over Norway.
Hjørundfjord in the western part of Norway, runs like a giant canyon through mountainous landscape. As soon as I have free time for exceptional experiences, I seek out this area and climb up to one of these amazing peaks.
To the right Jakta, and in the middle Slogen (1500m). The combination of endless areas of powder snow, not to forget the view of pointed peaks and deep fjords, hardly find anywhere else in the world. With over 300 peaks of over 1000 meter above sea level, you don't have to worry about stepping into other people's tracks.
Stålberghornet er nesten fryktinngydene massivt, navnet passer veldig bra.
Norangsfjor, Hjørundfjord, Sunnmøre, Norway
Slogen is the most renowned mountain in the region. "Isavatnet" means "lake with ice". No ice, now, though.

Brekketiden, Slogen and Jakta, three of the most exceptional mountains in the district, but also well known nationally in Norway, too.
Sunnmørsalpene / Sunnmørsalpane.
Seen from Dalmannstiden, Sykkylven, Norway
Stunning Norangsfjorden scenery , Left of centre is the shapely peak of Slogen whilst Jakta is somewhere behind the sheer wall on the right.
The wonderful outline of Slogen at the head of the Fijord, Norangdalen, Norway. Another shot from the archives.
From sea level the mountain Slogen looks almost impossible to climb. But it's actually quite simple, although it is a 5 to 6 hours hike. There is a safe, but steep path up. It requires some climbing the last stretch. And it definitely tingles in the stomach. The reward for this demanding hike is formidable. At the very top, where the glacier ends, traveling rock up into the air, like a Eifeltower built of weathered granite blocks. The storybook Alpine landscape at Sunnmore offers itself.

Milkmaids huts high up in the Norangdalen valley in Norway, the peak of Slogen in the distance, probably these huts used just in the warmer months as they would be under snow in the winter.
A silent evening by the Hjørundfjord at Sunnmore. Winter loosens its grip - and spring is on its way.
The little village Urke, with only 50 inhabitants, facing on the north side of Norangsfjorden. The world 's most beautiful village at the world's most spectacular fjord, according to one of the guests. The fjord runs like a giant canyon through mountainous Sunnmørsalpene.

A few years ago the hotel got the award " one of the worlds 12 most exciting hotels ." Tourist ships anchored up at Øye and horse carts carrying tourists through the valley.
Dies unter dem Slogen "Back on Track".
At the time of shooting, the 101 068 promoted a so-called "Greentech Festival" in Berlin, in which DB acted as mobility partner. This under the slogan "Back on Track". On August 07th, 2020 the locomotive was scheduled to transport the EC 218 from Graz. In the wooded area between Assling and Grafing I took this picture of the long-distance train.
A small boat crossing the Hjørundfjord, Sæbø, Norway. Dwarfed by the mountains; Slogen, Stålberghornet and Helghornet in the background.

Ferry from Standal to Sæbø on Hjørundfjorden. The montain Saksa (1073 m) is on the left and Slogen (1564 m) in the far distance, a little bit left of center. Climbed Saksa the day before this shot.
