Tradescantia pallida is native to the lowland forests of southeastern Mexico, but has been spread far and wide by horticulturists. It has a close relative native to Colorado, Tradescantia occidentalis, which goes by the common names spiderwort, cow slobber and snotweed, These common names follow the excess production of saliva by cows and humans who eat the leaves, which are mucilaginous.
Each of the water droplets acts as a magnifying glass, showing the fine texture of the petals (most clearly seen in the largest size). Photographed in one of CU's greenhouses, managed by my favorite horticulturist/botanist, Tom Lemieux.
Thanks Daynon Valentino! This is what happens when you have too much alcohol and time on your hands. 😏 Just kidding, thanks for being the wonderful friend that you are. I enjoyed welcoming the new year with you. ❤️
Keeping her eyes on the target!
Pearl's most favorite pastime in the entire world is playing fetch with Larry.
She is all Lab!
lol....Larry always wears a pair of work gloves when he plays ball with her because she gets the ball so wet with slobber he says it's too gross to pick up!
I frequently, for lack of a better word, get "accused" of being in publications that I have never been in. This is image is the one I am frequently been told was there favorite National Geographic cover. I have always wanted to be a National Geographic photographer....
Again the story behind the image is different than the image portrays. I was at a used camel lot (I'm not making that up) photographing camels. I saw this man I looked at him, held my camera up which is the universal sign for "can I take a picture of you?" he waved is hand in a "no" gesture. As I turned away a large male camel and I were face to face. The Male camel was in "ready to rut" mode and proceeded to slime me with the foulest smelling slime/goo/slobber/goo I have had the misfortune to ever smell. Let alone be coated with. Apparently female camels find this 'scent" attractive. This was the Bedouin who had just turned me down for a photograph's camel who has now just confused me for a girl camel.e rushes over shoos the horny beast away and looks at me now covered in camel goo, which is dripping off my nose, glasses, camera. Trying to stifle a laugh, he gives me a nod that is now "ok" to take his picture. This is tat picture. I had to be hosed down from head to toe before I could get back on the bus.

Dusty has a new friend named Gator who is a four-year-old aussiedoodle and a lot of fun. They've been playing several mornings now and Dusty is always wet with spit and slobber when they are finished. Which, of course, means he's happy as can be.

Would not want to be too close to this elk eating there in Yellowstone. Slobber flying off in the air there as it was chewing.
Last minute trek to lantwit major with my friend Rob of WFC i had to pick the car up from Peugeot had it valleted took them 5 hours :-) its like new - well i was full of mollys slobber and the car cost me £440 in parts for some faults i had :-(
woke up this morning with a throat infection so todays waterfall trek may be put on the back burner :-(
We had some rain last night :-) and some fearsome storm clouds
so these guys just wanted to be in the shot when I'm trying to take a picture of the old tree. friendly bunch, wanted a scratch begin the ears and to leave slobber on me, I've had worse :)
This is our beautiful boy, Bruno :)
Bruno likes long walks - anywhere really, slobbering, chasing shadows and reflections, food (any and all), chewing his bone, playing with his rope, playing chasies, tearing up the paper with a look of mad glee on his face, playing, neck scratches, ear massages, playing, belly scratches, sitting on your knee and singing, he is the gentlest, kindest, smartest dog you will ever meet and I swear he understands every word you say to him :) lol
I've missed you my friends, hope you all had a wonderful Easter :) x!
Someone was holding these chicks for me the other day as I was trying to figure out how I wanted to photograph them. I'd only taken two exposures and was examining them on the LCD when I heard a purring flutter, a hard clattering of claws on the tile floor, and a slobbering NOM.
One of the chicks had squirmed out and fluttered to the floor. Before he even seemed to hit, in just a twinkling, Cooper had swooped in there, snatching up the chick in his mouth and as I looked up, he was high-tailing it away, little yellow feathers emerging from around his leathery black lips.
Unfortunately for Cooper but luckily for the bird, he only got that first NOM. He'd just carried the chick away in his mouth without harming it. We successfully retrieved the baby whole and replaced it in its coop. But that was the end of the idea of photographing them.
I told everyone that Cooper was simply on the spot in helping protect the bird from all that dangerous human foot traffic. Yeah.
I was cleaning the dog slobber off the front window last week when I spotted my first ever Hummingbird Hawk Moth on the Lavender. But, within a second of seeing it a bird swooped down and had it away! Two amazing sights in a flash whilst I added my own slobber to the window :)
Today I was tying to capture the Cabbage Whites visiting the Lavender. This little beauty spent a minute on the flower heads whilst I stumbled with the camera. Manual focus from a distance didn't help.
Classic plastic at the Bijou Planks...
...at the watering hole...
Well, I really don't know where else I'd go to drink.
You can go down to the river.
That's across the fields! I'd be a great, big, slow moving target for the T-Rex! No, this watering hole is what I like.
But this 'watering hole' is my home!! Everytime you drink here you get your slobber and whatever plants you haven't finished chewing all in the water! I live here!
Well, I'm sorry, but at least I'm not like the woolly mammoth-
No...
-who I saw yesterday-
...don't say it...
-just... well, you know. I haven't done that in your pool here.
*sigh* I really need a better place.

A Channel Passage by Rupert Brooke
The damned ship lurched and slithered. Quiet and quick
My cold gorge rose; the long sea rolled; I knew
I must think hard of something, or be sick;
And could think hard of only one thing--you!
You, you alone could hold my fancy ever!
And with you memories come, sharp pain, and dole.
Now there's a choice--heartache or tortured liver!
A sea-sick body, or a you-sick soul!
Do I forget you? Retchings twist and tie me,
Old meat, good meals, brown gobbets, up I throw.
Do I remember? Acrid return and slimy,
The sobs and slobber of a last year's woe.
And still the sick ship rolls. 'Tis hard, I tell ye,
To choose 'twixt love and nausea, heart and belly.

My brother In Law just collected his new dog, Ruby.
She's a Dogue de Bordeaux, and as small and cute as she is now, she'll be nearing 10-12 stone in a couple of years with slobber all over her chops,
She'll still be cute though.
Dog Sitting [107/365] - My brothers and stepdad jetted off to Mexico this morning... I know, how unfair! While they are gone, I've been left in charge of their dog Coolie, who at 150 lbs nearly knocks me over just by accidentally bumping into me as he walks by. He's just an oversized puppy though, and he would never hurt anybody. That said, it's nice to have him around the house, because if I was a robber I'd take one look at him and leave quite quickly. As I drove around with him in the backseat of my car tonight, he felt the need to climb into the front seat, where he blocked my view out my passenger window and ate the head off of my little koala that I brought back from Australia. It should be a fun week... how do I walk a dog that weighs more than me??
PS... I tried taking photos of him next to me to give you an idea of how big he really is... but they are all blurry, as in the majority of them I'm being pushed over, trying extremely hard to hold onto him, or attempting to shield my face from his slobber. Next time!

This one is very interesting, Aaron_M found all the paper and things that are covering this block ; Drawings, notes, photo's... a lot of neat stuff.
I think Jack may have gotten it a little dirty, He was out playing with the dogs while photographing. His hands had some doggie slobber on them.
Bad Jack
Sorry.
Week 6/52
Dakota started to shake her head while she was mid-stride and flung slobber EVERYWHERE. Normally she's fairly prissy with regards to her behavior, but when she really gets worn out the slobber faucet turns on. Actually, its more like foam, lol, but either way its not very girlie :)
Yay explore #135 Feb 7, 2009 :)
I saw this Longhorn back by the windmill. I got out to get a photo of him there. He saw me and came running at me . He was snorting, slobbering and twisting his head back and forth. Thankfully there was a good fence between us. :-)
This is one Crazy Quack!!! :):):)

Today's story and sketch by me #1419, is about the pedestrian that has been wandering around Budahunga, our Tropical Volcanic Planet, for a few months. I finally got a chance today to get a few photos of this pedestrian, we have named Grunt, basically because he doesn't speak, but makes assorted growling sounds, always carries a club and is rarely seen. I'm lucky today as you can see, I have followed grunt on a successful palm rat hunt. Just how Grunt arrived on Budahunga is a mystery, the best guess is he was abducted from another dimension by a time altering Stargate. We are very lucky to have Grunt, here on Budahunga, he has proven to be an expert at rodent control, just what he does with the palm rats is uncertain, and no one is really that curious. Deputy Cosmo our expert on 150 plus alien and zombie species, was curious about Grunt's origins, dropped a six pack of Budahunga Pale Ale, in front of Grunt's Cave, snuck back in the morning, took DNA samples from the slobber on the bottles, and was shocked when the test results estimated that Grunt was Four Thousand Years Old. Making him the oldest pedestrian on Budahunga, and may have come from dimension four. Deputy Cosmo is on the case, and said he will have more information about Grunt's origins very soon, until then Tata the Rod Blog.

Cow slobber, or snowed, or spiderwort or Tradescantia occidentals is an edible wildflower. But cow slobber gives an indication of why we don't regularly add this to our salads. Both cows and humans (yes, I have eaten a small amount) find that the mucilaginous leaves stimulate the release of saliva. The petals, filaments (support the anthers), filament hairs, stigma and style (central, female portion of the flower) are all the same blueish purple, while the six anthers are brilliant yellow.
I found this photo from a trip we took to Kentucky down under over the summer. The quality isn't that great but I thought it was funny. This goat literally followed me around and everytime he got a chance to grab my hair he would. The workers were just interested in getting a photo instead of getting him away from me. I didn't appreciate the goat slobber he left behind.

Hay Burner..... This was taken a long, long time ago, back in the days of blue skies and warm weather.....
very seldom do I see a shallow depth of field at the ultra wide angle of 10mm, this was just a few inches from his nose, was a bit concerned about slobber on the lens...
Some may call this the "Cone of Shame." I call it Cotton's Kissing Booth, because even when I try to take it off her she slimes me with a slobbering kiss or two.

And to think my wife wonders way I save the things I do! This week it's a shout out to Hans's favorite color and "Chuckit!" as it's the only ball that lasts with our dog Rorschach the Pitbull. Rorschach hangs out like most dogs but NEEDS to go out, run and play catch. She will let you know when it's play time by sitting and staring until you give in and take her out. This is the ball we use and this one has served us well. Eventually, Rorschach gets the best of them and when they get too old and don't bounce right it's time for a new one. We let Rorschach bring the ball into the house and in about 5 minutes of unsupervised play this is what happens. She loves to rip stuff into little pieces. BTW: If you like to play catch with your dog I recommend investing in a Lacrosse stick, best invention ever for throwing a ball and no dog slobber on the hands! This ball measures 2.5 inches in diameter and fits perfectly in the Lacrosse stick net.
So sorry to hear about Hans and who would have guessed that "Orange" would come up as a theme for the group Macro Mondays but it did and here is Rorschach's Chuckit play ball at last! Hans, I hope your recovery is swift and thanks for having such a great favorite color, made it through another week and this macro frame.

This is my staffing cross. She’s so funny, I have this as my background and scaled up you can see the slobber so it looks like she is in my screen licking it 😂 simple things pleased simple minds I believe 😂
Okay so this is the first time I have ever photographed my food. It was fun I have to admit and they were unreal delicious....
Here we go EMD fans, we have a proper leader on a train on the mainline to kick start your MLK Day celebrations. Because we all know that MLK was a fan of EMDZ and not that GE Junk that some of you fanboys slobber over. You can agree with MLK and myself, or you can be wrong.
Veteran SD70M 4354...and are your ready for this on...SD40-2 1764 hustle a train at East Linwood this morning in some pretty decent light. DJI screwed me over pretty hard on the shutter lag on the drone shot here which forced me to chase this train east. I'll share one of those shots as well.
So this is 2023, SD70M and a SD40-2 (OK SD40N in UP jabberwocky) leading a train. I chased this guy east and got him again at 24.5, Loring and again at 11.4 and again at Muncie. Only thing would have been better was the 1764 leading!
