Please forgive the silly title. #2 of my mini series from maintanace work at the Olympiastadion Berlin; #1 is in the first comment.
The sliding part here is not only the selective colour. I had forgotten to activate the electronic level on my camera display when I had taken this bug's eye view shot and had relied on my eyes only to get a well aligned image. A big mistake, of course, because not only was the original image ever so slightly askew and off-center, but I had considerable wide-angle distortion in the background, the columns even looked a little fanned out. So I split the image in half in PS, foreground and background as different layers, and properly aligned each layer before I put them back together as one image.
One thing that I've learned by now about wide-angle shooting is: align and compose your image really carefully, take your time, it will spare you a lot of keystone correction work in post (and often a proper correction is impossible afterwards); unless you shoot deliberately at a dutch angle for a dramatic effect, of course.
I've also processed this photo as pure b&w, but I really liked the bright red colour dash of the cherry picker when I compared both final images. And I can already tell you as much: #3 in this series will be a selective colour image as well ;)

Nr. 2 meiner kleinen "Einsame Arbeit am Olympiastadion"-Serie (Nr. 1 findet Ihr im 1. Kommentar). Ich habe hier zwei Versionen fertig bearbeitet, eine als pures SW und eben diese mit selektiver Farbe, die mir im direkten Vergleich besser gefallen hat. Selektive Farbe funktioniert mit Rot ja besonders gut (aber nicht nur), finde ich, und der Hubsteiger hier war so schön leuchtend rot lackiert, dass sich diese Bearbeitung gewissermaßen aufgedrängt hat. Viel mehr Arbeit musste ich tatsächlich in die nachträgliche Ausrichtung des Bildes stecken: Ich hatte damals ausgerechnet bei diesem Bild aus der Froschperspektive nicht daran gedacht, die elektronische Wasserwaage zu aktivieren – ein großer Fehler, denn die zwei, drei Aufnahmen sind alle ganz leicht verzogen und gerade so nicht perfekt mittig, außerdem hatte ich im Hintergrund auch wegen der leichten Ausrichtung der Kamera nach oben starke Weitwinkel-Verzerrungen (die Säulen wirkten fast aufgefächert), sodass hier u. a. PS aushelfen musste. Dort habe ich das Bild zweigeteilt, in Vorder- und Hintergrund, habe beide Teile korrekt ausgerichtet und danach wieder zusammengefügt. Mittlerweile ist das erste, was ich einschalte, wenn ich mit einem Weitwinkel unterwegs bin, die elektronische Wasserwaage. Man lernt (zum Glück) nie aus ;)

Berlin dwellers, beware... because tonight is not like any other night. Tonight the creatures of the night will meet for their first World Congress, the WCDCEN (World Congress of the Dark Creatures of the Eternal Night) held in – Berlin. So better stay at home, lock your doors, close your windows, draw the curtains, and make absolutely sure that the lights will never go out in your house this night... For the harsh, ear-splitting shriek you've heard above you in the sky on your hasty walk home didn't belong to a crow. And the enormous, hunched, ragged and shaggy shadow you've spotted from the corner of your eye wasn't your sloppy neighbour walking his dog...
OK, a clumsy attempt at writing a scary introduction to this image ;) I simply started too late with writing it today, and I wanted to upload this image before midnight CET (and originally I'd only wanted to describe the sliding steps for this image – as far as I remember them – anyway). Just that much: The hotel the WCDCEN has booked for this special night is no other than the seat of the German Government, the Reichstag building in Berlin's Tiergarten (=animal garden) district. One of Germany's largest public gardens of the same name, the Tiergarten park, lies right across the famous "hotel" – and that park is a place one should avoid at night by all means even during normal nights. Well, as I've learned from insider circles, there were some quarrels among the participants beforehand,
because Count Dracula, for instance, is said to have claimed the entire west wing for himself ("This hovel is smaller than the doghouse in front of my castle!") and the vampires allegedly had refused to move into the same floor as the werewolves ("Their bloodcurdling screeching is poison for our sensitive ears!" vs. "Their enormous shedding during their transformation is abominable, the hair is simply everywhere!"). As it seems, creatures of the night are merely humans, too.
This is an image that simply had to be slid for Sliderssunday. Because on the day I had taken it there only had been a boring blue, blue, nothing but blue sky, and my POV had not been exactly aligned, either, it was slightly off-centre. I still liked it, somehow, but never quite knew how to present it in an interesting way; until a few weeks ago, when I stumbled upon it in LR once again, and decided to see how I could jazz it up with all those nice tools that Luminar 4 offers, such as "Sky Replacement" (the clouds), or "Augmented Sky" (the moon and the birds). I also added some drama in ON1 with a texture ("Dirty Screen"), some "Grunge", and cranked up the LR sliders for structure and clarity. Slid to the Max for Halloween :)

Berliner, nehmt Euch in Acht... denn heute Nacht ist keine Nacht wie jede andere. Denn das hohe Kreischen, das Ihr auf dem eiligen Heimweg über Euch am Abendhimmel gehört habt, stammte nicht von einer Krähe. Und der gekrümmte, zottelige Schatten, den Ihr aus dem Augenwinkel wahrgenommen habt, war nicht Euer Nachbar, der den Hund ausgeführt hat... Heute Nacht treffen sich im Zentrum der Stadt die Kreaturen der Nacht zum WKDKEN (dem "Ersten Weltkongress der dunklen Kreaturen der Ewigen Nacht"). Bleibt also besser daheim, verrammelt die Haustüren, schließt Eure Fenster, zieht die Vorhänge zu und passt auf, dass die gesamte Nacht über das Licht an ist. Der WKDKEN findet natürlich nicht in irgendeinem Business-Hotel statt, sondern im repräsentativsten "Hotel" der Stadt, dem Reichstagsgebäude. Wie aus Insider-Kreisen zu erfahren war, soll es allerdings bereits im Vorfeld einige Querelen gegeben haben, weil Graf Dracula partout den gesamten Westflügel für sich beansprucht haben soll ("Diese Bruchbude ist ja kleiner als die Hundehütte vor meinem Schloss!") und die Vampire sich geweigert haben sollen, dasselbe Stockwerk wie die Werwölfe zu beziehen ("Ihr markerschütterndes Gekreische ist Gift für unsere empfindlichen Ohren!" vs. "Die haaren immer so fürchterlich während ihrer Verwandlung, diese Flusen sind einfach überall!"). Wie es scheint, sind die Kreaturen der Nacht eben auch bloß Menschen.
Dieses Foto war ein klarer Fall für den Sliders Sunday. Am Tag der Aufnahme war der Himmel ausschließlich: blau. Langweilig. Und das Foto von der Seite des Reichstagsgebäudes war auch nicht sauber ausgerichtet. Trotzdem mochte ich das Bild irgendwie und habe immer auf eine Idee gehofft, wie ich es präsentieren könnte. Kürzlich bin ich mal wieder über das Foto gestolpert und habe gleich an die schönen kleinen "Helferlein" in Luminar 4 gedacht :) Langweiliger Himmel? Da gibt es doch das "Sky Replacement". Ein bisschen Zusatzstimmung gefällig? Man nehme den Mond und die Vögel (nein, das sind Vampire) vom "Augmented Sky". In ON1 habe ich dann noch den "Grunge"-Filter angepasst, eine Textur ("Dirty Screen") hinzugefügt und in LR die Regler für Struktur und Klarheit auf Anschlag gedreht – fertig war das "Gruselbild" für Halloween.
Falls Ihr tatsächlich heute feiert, wünsche ich Euch viel Spaß dabei, ansonsten wünsche ich Euch einen geruhsamen Sonntag. Und wie immer: Passt auf Euch auf!

Down in the basement where entering is off limits for unauthorized persons... But it's Halloween, and what would you do? Enter at your own risk.
So imagine the usual group of friends, students, probably, who want to spend an adventurous weekend in an abandoned old house at the end of the street (or, even better: in the middle of nowhere), in a house that is surrounded by a dark, gloomy mystery. They want to have some fun, and they also want to solve that mystery. You all know what will happen in the course of that weekend. First, there will be strange sounds that our group of friends will dismiss as "old house sounds". But the sounds get stranger, more threatening, so they will start looking for the origins of those sounds which seem to come from the basement (it's always the basement or the attic, isn't it?), a pitch dark, ice cold basement filled with eerie sounds. Will they go down there? You bet they will... and would you? I'll leave the rest of that story to your imagination. But I can tell you as much: I went down into that basement, by my own choice, by my free will (at least that's what I thought at the time).
Since I came back to tell the story, it's obvious that there were no supernatural powers in that basement. But it was a creepy place anyways, and it really had been pitch black down there. Without flashlights we'd have been lost. That basement has been the boiler room of an old prison. Accordingly, that sign on the now "unemployed" door says "Boiler room! No admittance for unauthorized persons! The director". I'd have never explored that basement on my own. I was there with Sabine.R back in September 2018. That prison, which had started of as a regular district court prison in 1901, has seen some very real horrors in the early 1930s. Irgendwo im Keller...
... mitten in Berlin... Oder befindet sich dieser düstere Keller überhaupt in Berlin und nicht etwa doch in einem einsam (sehr einsam) gelegenen, verlassenen, von einem tiefdunklen Geheimnis umgebenen Haus mitten im Nirgendwo?
Wäre dies der Schauplatz eines Gruselfilms, dann wäre es so. Dafür nehme man die üblichen Verdächtigen, eine Gruppe von Freunden (Studenten wahrscheinlich), die ein aufregendes Wochenende in diesem Haus verbringen wollen. Unsere Freundestruppe will einen draufmachen, Spaß haben, aber natürlich am Ende auch das Geheimnis dieses Hauses gelöst haben. Gesagt, getan. Und erst sieht auch alles nach eine großen Spaß aus und das "Geheimnis" ist wohl doch nur eine Geschichte ohne echten Hintergrund.
Aber dann, als es bereits dunkel wird, sind plötzlich seltsame Geräusche im Haus zu vernehmen, die unser Grüppchen zunächst als "Altes-Haus-Geräusche" abtut. Nur werden diese Geräusche mit jedem Quäntchen Tageslicht, das allmählich schwindet, immer bedrohlicher und unerklärlicher. Ist an dem Geheimnis evtl. doch was dran? Unsere abenteuerlustige (oder soll ich sagen: schon leicht lebensmüde) Truppe begibt sich also auf die Suche nach dem Ursprung der seltsamen Geräusche. Sie scheinen aus dem Keller zu kommen (es ist immer der Keller oder der Dachboden, nicht wahr?). Einem Keller, dessen Tür mit mehreren Schlössern verammelt ist und auf der ein eindeutig formuliertes Verbotsschild zu finden ist. Es kommt, wie es kommen muss... man begibt sich die Treppe hinab in die Finsternis und das Unheil nimmt seinen Lauf...
Oder doch nicht? Ich bin in diesem, tastächlich stockdunklen, Keller gewesen – freiwillig. Aber nicht allein, das hätte ich mich nie getraut, so gruselig war es da unten. Ich war im September 2018 mit Sabine.R dort gewesen, ohne Taschenlampen wären wir dort nicht weit gekommen. Es handelt sich um den Heizungskeller eines alten Berliner Gefängnisses (wie auch in "schönstem" Amtsdeutsch auf dem Verbotsschild an der ausrangierten Tür zu lesen ist). Dieses 1901 erbaute Gefängnis war ursprünglich ein reguläres Amtsgerichtsgefängnis gewesen, hat dann aber in den frühen 1930er-Jahren ganz realen Horror erlebt. A composite of 4 photos, ISO 200, done in Photoshop Express. Very tedious to resample, shift, test for alignment by blending pairs of photos with Difference before reducing opacity to 25% and summing. Then level adjustment in Apple Photos.
Maybe time to upgrade to Photoshop.
